America is not the Smiths

How successful would the Smiths have been if they had been an American band?

I agree with The Smiths beeing a very, very brittish band and all that.

But even if they were american (kind of hard to imagine), it doesn't mean they would gain any popularity in the States at all.

Take Hendrix. He never made it big the US untill he got a break in the UK.

My point here, if any, is that the Smiths might have been less popular in the US if they were american. But perhaps they would be more popular in britain. :confused:

This stuff is common. Take Yngwie. He was mocked here in Sweden. Everybody loved him two weeks later in america.
Now, he is mocked everywhere, except in Japan and Finland.

Next poll: What if the Smiths were from Japan?
 
Less successful, but more than a handful of shows. I'm assuming they'd still have been the best ever. Well, I'd hope so...
