It’s not about politics

They were all under a lot of pressure - with a truly evil activist pitching them for years on end. So, yeah - it was going from the fanbase, to the crew, to Morrissey.

I like your term, "the crew." For the film version of your conspiracy theory, Michael Rapaport plays Morrissey. "Yo, yo, where my crew at?" Enter Sam and Johnny, teenagers in hoodies and backwards baseball caps, scrolling 4chan on their phones. "Okay, good deal, here's my homies. Where you been? What you got for me today, boys? What's in the news? What are the fans sayin' on the internet?"

Michael Rapaport dialogue pretty much writes itself.

I think there's been enough shit dialogue written by "fans".

And Morrissey was incapable of thinking for himself? He became brainwashed?

Maybe you should examine why that is. It's probably not for the reason that you think it is.

I don't know why it is. But wouldn't you want to watch a movie where Kelly Macdonald plays a loony Morrissey obsessive who treats his career trajectory like a conspiracy theory? Pitch: "It's a middle-aged Nancy Drew mystery with a Smiths soundtrack." She has one of those case boards on her wall, with thumbtacks and string connecting all the players and issues, from Billy Bragg to gay skinhead porn to a big question mark with a sticky note asking, "WHO IS GASHONTHENAIL??"

smart people can be scammed.

So none of this is Morrissey's fault because, although very bright and one of the original free thinkers, he got scammed by evil people around him?

Just checking, that's what we're running with?

Doesn't appeal, no. I also don't know who Kelly Macdonald is (is she one of your porn star crushes?)

Audrey, maybe you can help me. You know in interviews when they ask you to tell them about yourself? What kind of an answer are you supposed to give and how much time are you allowed to take up? I thought about telling them about how reality is what compels me, how I'm interested in defining it, finding its poetic elements, about man in his relation to his environment, all of which is why I consider myself to be a writer but after fruitless laboring over a novel which produced no tangible results because something about the novel eludes me, I feel the need to put my skills to use in the real world and to start living with more intention.

Does that sound okay?!

No, and please don't poison the well like that. Kelly Macdonald is a well-known Scottish actress. She was in Trainspotting.

That sounds great, but I guess it all depends on what you're applying for. If the position is forklift operator, maybe go with something else. What's the job?

Ohhhhh her! Yeah, she's lovely. No way, malarkey is way more Suzanne Moore mixed with ava Evans. Some ridiculous looking attention seeking pseudo female thing.

I can't tell you because malarkey might dox me. 😞 it's working with smart people though and you have to be personable and have a good grasp of English, both of which things I have in spades! I've never had an interview for a real job though, and my usual modus operandi for an interview is to go in totally unprepared and giggle my way through it, so I'm a bit nervous about how this will go 😒
