Would Kraftwerk translate well to the live arena.. Great records and legendary as they are.. ?

Undertones would be a blast. IS Feargal back in harness?

No Feargal Ruff....thakfully

Don't know how Kraftwerk would be live but when a band like that rolls into town you owe it to your Rock And Roll heritage to get along there regardless.

I am watching a very rare video of The Specials at the moment Ruff(don't tell Bluenose).

Rare footage of the band performing at Tiffanys where the "Too Much Too Young" single was recorded.Crowd going mental !

Various TOTP performances "Ghost Town,"Do Nothing" etc and a very rare documentary of the band made by Aidrian Thrills late of NME.

It really is brilliant stuff..... Oh and I am off to see John Cale soon as well. All good stuff

I ordered my copy of the new Undertones album 'Get What You Need' from Amazon a few weeks ago and still haven't got it, what I've heard is great though, the new singer Paul McCloone sounds good. As much as we love Feargal from the old days you wouldn't want him involved now, he hasn't made any new music for years. His solo stuff was really terrible, although when you think how dramatic his vocals had become, eg on The Sin Of Pride, which is still excellent, it was clear which way he wanted his career to go. Fortunetly That Petrol Emotion were top drawer so there was still some spark of genius to come out of the fallout of The Undertones. I haven't got to see them yet since they have been touring, must check if they are playing near Notts.

To my delight Inspiral Carpets are playing at Rock City on Sunday, I thought they had now officially called it a day.

The Inspirals are touring to promote their recent Greatest Hits package.

Agree about Feargal. His Undertones are well and truly over and from what I remember he is not on speaking terms with the rest of the band.

Interesting. Agree about Sharkey. He had a head like a box anyway. His and david Coutlhard are like bookends. Anyway, Can't find this winter Undertones tour dates anywhere.. are they in Manc at all?

That Petrol Emotion were a great live band. better than their studio stuff. In my opinion anyway. (except the sublime track 'Gnaw Mark')

I was reminded recently that I used to post a regular feature here, 'Ruffian's Gig tour' or something.. documenting all the bands i was seeing at that time. I stopped coz it looked like I was up my own arse.. but i may have to post again.. Always provoking a flurry of responses. And that can't be bad. I was prompted to add this for you to post a John Cale review after it happens of course.

Good idea Ruff. I will do a wee (unpaid:) review of J.C anyway.

I DO know that The Durutti Column play at the Academy in Manchester on the 13th December so if you want to see the guitar genius behind Viva Hate now is your chance.

*sulking* Yeah, ya baw bag. Don't offer to let me watch it or anything. Don't expect me to provide you with anymore obscure 60s kitchen sink fillums so you can while away your lonely life!

I suppose I should be content with my Specials SIngles video and a clip of Terry Hall introducing 'Too Much Too Young' with the immortal lines
"This will probably be the only time time you'll see us perform this on TV as family shows like Top Of The Pops find it quite offensive."
or something like that.

Re: Undertones tour dates

Always remember a typically sombre-faced performance by the specials or fun boy three on totp and the camera going back to Peel and him saying, "That Terry Hall. He's a laugh, isn't he?"

Don't know if any of you pesky kids will find it in any of your research tools. If not, you'll all just have to take your teacher's word for it. Okay, off you all go.
And no running!!!

> The Inspirals are touring to promote their recent Greatest Hits package.

Ah yes I know but heard they weren't doing anymore after the first batch of gigs, which is why I was so suprised to see they were playing Rock City.

I have seen that clip, Paddy. Can you imaging what Peelie would utter if they allowed him to present TOTP in these modern times of musical madness?

So are you coming up on Friday or what?

Thanks for including that Derry was in Ireland and Glasgow was in Scotland Bluenose. I'd have been lost without that.

It would be wasted on you Bluenose. You'd watch it for 10 minutes and then get bored and reach for your favourite Wham! video again. You always do...

Yes, if you care to re-read my post, Tommy, you should notice the word "copied". This means I ...well...copied the details from the website using the "copy and paste" function on the computer. Ask Patrick to show you how to do it.

Where did you see that clip, Bluebles??!!?? WHERE??! HOW??! WHEN??!
Like the Only Ones debut album getting 6 stars out of 5, that's one of those things that pesky kids will never find out, no matter how much research they do.
And then they gasp in awe when their old spongehead grandpa tells them. Then they can go and impress their friends.
"No it didn't!"
"Yes it did! My grandpa told me!!"

You know, that kind of thing.

So WHERE Bluebles??!!? WHO?? WHEN?? I'll seek it out and destroy it.

Sorry, you've lost me. How to do what?

Thanks Mate! You have started a movement.. I am convincing my mates for a Christmas night at the Famous C0ck.. an amusingly named, and sometimes pretty rough, pub next to Highbury&Islington tube before descending on the Garage for the 'Tones.

My drinking first lieutenant has reported that its 19 quid a ticket all inclusive.. which seems a lot for a comeback gig! But the garage would be hot, atmospheric, sweaty and a bit of a laugh.. so could be worth it.

Either that or the rockabilly club at the Metro on the Saturday night.. choices choices.

Anyone who has the Peter Perrett biography 'Homme Fatale' can read all about the The Only Ones, a more interesting bit of info is that a warrant is still out on Peter Perret to this day in San Fransisco for attempted murder after trying to run someone under his car during the shananigans of their 1980 US tour.

Re: Undertones tour dates

I'm not too sure. I think it must have been on UK Gold's TOTP re-runs. Either that or I remember the original transmission. I was pretty cool as a kid, you know.
