My first time being first to comment. I think I'm supposed to be more psyched about it than I actually am.

"What she said: How come someone hasn't noticed that I'm dead and decided to bury me? God knows I'm ready!'"

Please. 10.

(PS--I just realised that THIS is the song that took me longest to figure out, lyrically. Back in the day, I thought it was, "What she said I smote, cuz I'm hoping for an early death . .." despite the fact that I actually knew and understood that "smite" doesn't have a single appropriate definition in that context.)

I feel like this song has a good structure, has a good rhythm, and goes at a good pace. And every time I listen to it, it always leaves me satisfied and smiling...thats What She Said!!!

haha get it?!!!!

Possibly The Smiths most raucous song, Mr Marr gives most 'rock' guitarists a run for their money. It's a pretty bleak song, but a really good one. 8.

Brilliant song, makes me want to move around in a violent and rapid fashion! Lovely energy to it, great track from a great album.

I reckon it's one of Moz's best lyrics.

The above quote is "borrowed" by Morrissey from Smart's " By Grand Central Station I Sat Down And Wept":

"I wonder why no one has noticed I am dead and taken the trouble to bury me"

Nothing new here...

oh. i dunno about Jenipher, but when I hear the name Elizabeth Smart I think of the little girl who was kidnapped from her room, thought to be dead only to turn up a year or so later, alive and well.

it was still an oddly worded statement...

Ditto!! Great jam. I give it a 9 -almost for the energy alone :D
"and I need to cling to something"!! I do -- Morrissey for life:)

That's exactly who I was thinking of.

Also, scratches, please don't condescend to me (or anyone else, for that matter) about lifted lyrics (or anything else, for that matter). I am well aware that fully 75% of the Smiths' lyrics are references to other sources. That doesn't make the way Moz has used them any less thrilling or interesting or just plain clever.

Stop annoying me.

love it. I used to listen to this one with "Monica from Berkeley" and we decided that this and "The Queen Is Dead" were a couple of the best songs on "Rank". I'd say that this is a classic and probably underrated. The lyrics in the wrong hands could sound corny in the way that The Cure and Nine Inch Nails can sound corny but I don't think they do. It works.

"I smoke because I'm hoping for an early death
and I need to cling to something"

classic. 10.

Well whoever she is, she definitely sounds interesting.

Tis an 8 from me. i love this line:

"I smoke because I'm hoping for an early death
and I need to cling to something"

...actually, make it an 8.5.

a 9

a little gem from Meat is Murder, hitting lyrics and sound, what a great
song this is, and always will be

I smoke because I'm hoping for an early death
do I need to cling to something*

*or someone, as always words straight from the writerblock:eek:head

One of my all time favorites.... Fast paced and shows a touch of punk.
