Has any stage invaders ever been arrested?

Doing the Terrace Stomp
I've found plenty of posts of invaders who are flung out of the gig - even those who are allowed to go back to their seat - but was wondering if anyone actually got huckled by the polis?

Would like to know so as to decide whether to brave it at Edinburgh?

Also; at who's discretion would it be to call the cops? The security - Rocksteady most likely - or the venues?

I don't think anyone has been arrested.

In September 1991 at Tokyo Budokan gig a guy managed got up to the stage and hugged Morrissey.
The next gig in Yokohama the security didn't allow him to get in the venue which was the most outrageous thing happened in Morrissey gig.
Remembering this incident still breaks my heart. :(

Thanks Kewpie

Just thinking that, well, it IS me...so if it's ever going to happen to someone it would be me... would not like to get a record for attempting something that thousands have done before and got away with...

but then I may just do it anyway!

At the Atlantic City gig over the summer, announcements were made that if anyone invaded the stage they would be arrested on site..there were a few stage invaders but I'm not sure anything like that actually happened.

Here are my top five worst experiences that I can think of:

5) A failed attempt at Marley park was well reported and looked worse than it was. The worst thing about that was one of the security was gabbing me by one of my nipples to pull me out. I told him to let go of my nipple but he refused, so I started to punch the offending arm. He highlighted how the guarda were watching. So, I started shouting, 'Stop assaulting me!' He let go and I ran back into the festival then suddenly he ran after me again and ripped my wristband off to prevent me from getting back into the area in front of the stage. I gave him the finger then leaped the fence into that area. The watching guarda were laughing and the security guy looked like a dick. Hehe.

4) In Cork in 1999 security were on my case before the gig began! Three of them tried to intimidate me by crowding round me and getting right in my face. I refused to hand them my ticket, only allowing to look at it. They didn't believe the seat was mine. During the support band Sack, they stood in front of me for nearly the whole time trying to prevent my view to the stage. They moved their attentions to those who wanted to stand and not sit. Bizarre night!

3) At a concert in Liverpool, 2004, early into the gig after a failed attempt, I was dragged to the foyer and was given a few kicks and punches out of sight of the audience before being thrown into the street. A police car outside drove up and called me over. They didn't care about the assault on me that they saw and did see me booting out at one of the thugs at the end. They just made it clear if I went near the venue, I'd spend the night in the cells. One of Morrissey crew came out to make sure I was all right. He gave me a crew sweater and told me I was not to wear it until the tour was over. I kept my promise.

2) At the Royal concert hall in Glasgow, I jumped onto the on stage speakers from the balcony. Security on the stage put their arms together and told me to jump into them. As I did they withdrew their arms and I crashed onto the stage nearly breaking my legs and wrists. I was then picked up by my belt and given a swift beating all the way to the exit.

1) The worst thing that has happened to me was at Hultsfred. After getting to the stage and reaching up to shake Mozzer hand. Security took me behind the stage and with plastic cable ties around my wrists, they attached me to a metal trolley and held a knife to my throat. They said the police would arrest me but in the end they let me go.

The tours in '91, '92 and '95 were much more chaotic than more recent years but less violent.

A point to note is that the a-holes have always been the venue hired security and not Morrissey's own guys. Even then it is only a small number that are truly out of their depth and result to neanderthal violence.

If you plan on going on stage. I do suggest you read my previous post on the subject linked at the beginning of this post.

I've been arrested. A few times. Sadly nothing to with invading, stage or otherwise

A possibly stupid question, but when something really terrible happens to you like for example at Hultsfred, do you not have the right to have the police investigate an assault charge against them, it sounds horrific.

Of course, "Keef" has a slightly different attitude to stage invaders:

Hardly misses a note

Bless him :)

in wom mag(free german music mag) from 2004

morrissey mentioned an incident on an american tour (dont remember the city/state have to look into the mag for it..will do that) where someone climbed up on stage and had a gun with him and morrissey expected to be shot but the guy "just" showing off his gun without pointing it to anyone and then jumped back into the audience i wonder if this guy was arrested after?

the guy who interviewed him is an british journalist(nme?) so i guess this interview is lurking around in some british mag..and this article in wom is a translated one cause i read that the only german mag who got an interview with moz in 2004 was the rolling stone...

To be honest. My only concern was getting back into the festival and retrieving my bag (flight ticket etc).

I remembered at least one of the bouncers who was ultra violent with me in Liverpool and about a month later, he remembered me. :)

Never involve the police in matters that do not concern them. Pay a 400llb man £40 to deal with it for you.

I want to highlight that the security are there to protect the audience, Morrissey, the lads and the equipment. If you go onto the stage. You take the risk of the consequences. Almost all of them are really nice and gentle, even when they don't need to be. They are doing a job that Morrissey is paying them to. Show them the respect the deserve.

Also, if GlasgowChivas plans to get on the Playhouse stage. I'd be more concerned about other people than the polis. ;)

morrisseythe23rd - they are about the funniest anecdotes I have ever read. Funny as fook!

I was thinking about maybe trying to stage invade at Edinburgh as well (because i'm going alone and my dad can't stop me!) but after reading a few posts about it i'm a bit scared now. Rocksteady are really rough, one time i was at a gig and i passed out (for some werid reason i always pass out when i go to the barras in Glasgow). Anyway one of the rocksteady guys draged me out and pushed me on the floor. I woke up and i couldn't even bloody walk and he grabed my arm (it was really painful) i keapt on falling down and when i got to the backstage bit he just pushed me roughly to the first aid bit. Now i'm really small, not strong at all and i had just fainted i thought it was REALLY unnecessary to be so rough with me. I couldn't even walk, i could hardly run backstage could I! Although an other time i fainted (and i was down the front again) and no one done a thing- which pissed me off because i banged my head and i needed some medical attention.
To be fair most of the time they are nice and they are just doing their job after all!:)

Wow you've have really bad experiences. It's usually the venue's security people who are the worst form any show I've been to Moz and others. I've never tried to make it onstage maybe one day I will. I got to shake his hand a few times, that's enough for me.

I was escorted out of Radio City for rushing the stage a couple years ago.

What a bunch of assholes security were at that place.

Hugh's brave stage invasion at last year's second Gmex gig looked spectacular (...and quite painful). I was relieved to see him safe and sound at the after party.

I remember seeing you taking a hammering at Marley Park.
I think it affected Morrissey because if I remember correctly it was during Ganglord and Morrissey kept saying to to the security "EASY BOYS,EASY" but they just kept on hauling you off. Then Morrissey stopped the song and started it again. He idn't seem to talk or enjoy himself much after that.

I got beaten up in Killarney by the security after my attempt to get on stage.During How soon is now i made a good leap but one of the security caught one of my legs in mid air and i hit the stage face first, then before I knew it four or five of them were on top of me they were very rough.
I was thrown out with blood pouring from my mouth and my back and arm were bruised too.
They wouldn't let me back in but I got back in for the last 3 songs by sneaking in through the hotel entrance.
I was a very quiet boy at the Olympia in Dublin a few day's later.

One of the guys I work with used to be part of venue security at the Kings Lynn Corn Exchange. Before the Morrissey show in 2006, the head of security showed the team 'Everyday is Like Sunday' on 'Morrissey Live in Dallas' and told them that is what they should expect.

Anyone who has seen the dvd (or vhs) will know what I mean.
