I don't understand why so many people hate it. I think it's hilarious.

Me too. I think the story is great and then vocals are brilliant.

Much as some people moan that Morrissey does the same thing, the minute he tries anything different they don't seem to like it at all. Look at the response to Southpaw Grammar and Sweetie Pie too.

I have no idea why so many people have unkind things to say about this song. The lyrics sound to me like an homage to Patti Smith, especially the ending verse. They are delightfully morbid and the melody is quite jaunty and nice as well. A wonderful song to sing in the shower whilst visions of Mother dance in your head: 8.

Clearly one of the strongest song from ROTT, I'm especially fond of the line "the way he chews his food / rips right through your senses" since dinner time can be a real horror in any family and enough to break any relationship.

Not one of my favorites. Lyrically it's probably the worst on Ringleader. Musically, the change in key sounds nice, but the chorus sounds dull and could've been better.

However, it does sound much better live, so I'm giving it a 7.

A good example of the Camp Mayhem subgenre (see also: "Shoplifters," "November Spawned a Monster," and "Lifeguard Sleeping," among others). Some really nice, poetic imagery sprinkled in there--an overall top-notch lyric. . .It's like a movie/poem/story/song/thingy.

If fractions were allowed, I'd give it an 8.51, so I gave it a 9.

I gave it a 7. I'm glad to see others like this song. And to quote myself from the YATQ vs ROTT,
I know a lot of people don’t like "The Father Who Must Be Killed", but there’s something about it that I DO. It’s very Nov. Monster/Mute Witness’ish ('kooky' storyline) I like the drum line love how he says ‘stepchilllld’. I’m a stepchild myself but not the killing kind ~lol

Just as motherless birds fly high then so shall I... so shall I...

I like ROTT. I really do. i stick up for it endlessless, as my husband hates it. However, I cannot defend this song. Truely, truely awful. A 2 from me.

I actually really enjoy this song. But like coffee, you either love it, or you dont . so I give it a 9. coz i do like it

I gave it a 3, which is rather generous. Sorry Morrissey, this one sucks big fat eggs from hell.
Let's just move right along shall we, and put that one behind us. :p

a 4

and this, being ina very bad monday mourning mood, is a giver

nothing venomous I can add whats already written about this very poor ROTT song
