first one to vote for this song...sweet!

The line "I decree today that life is simply taking and not giving..." is indeed perfection to me. This was the frist Smiths song that I heard that really grabbed me and pulled me in. I adore it and I hope you all do as well. I'm sure you do. But what I really love is that this song shows that the Smiths could really rock out and keep wonderful lyrics together that gel and just work wonderfully. Still Ill for-eva!

The very first Smiths' song I heard.

I ADORE it!!:D

Also the very first smiths song I heard- so glad I listened to it! If I could give it an 11 due to sentimental value I would!

Another Reason why The First Album is the best in my book....

Still Ill should have been the second single...in my opinion of course

I decree today
That life is simply taking and not giving
England is mine,
and it owes me a living

Does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule the body, I dunno.
My mind and body both told me to vote a strong 9'er.

A classic. Great lyrics (and falsetto) and it’s a jam…I like to air guitar to this one =o)

My all-time favorite Smiths song, containing the immortal lines, "Under the iron bridge we kissed and though I ended up with sore lips, it just wasn't like the old days anymore". I mean, can this be touched??? The music is one of Johnny's greatest compositions too. Just utterly utterly divine. A Grand Enormous 10.

I remember the very first time I saw The Smiths live at the University of Hull in 1984, they started with Hand In Glove and then went straight into a blistering version of Still Ill - I'll never forget it and just thinking about it sends a shiver through me. This, in my humble opinion, is one of the very finest songs that the band ever recorded. The anti-work ethic that is in so many of the early songs is at it's strongest here. It's just a brilliant, beautiful song that has the ultimate accolade, it has stood the test of time. If I had to compile a list of my very favourite Smiths songs, then this would always, always be in there. I agree that the 2006 version is really good, but to quote the song..."It just wasn't like the old days anymore, no it wasn't like those days". A masterpiece which I'm going to listen to right now. An enormous, resounding 10. Anything less would be a travesty.

Yes, that was a great appearance (and what a girl).

Of course, 10.

Will always remind me my first weeks with The Smiths ("I ended up with solids")...

solids?

hahaha, I recently learnt that in The Queen is Dead, he actually sings "Life is very long, when you're lonely", rather than, "When you don't live" and I am CRUSHED :o

With solids - in the river under the bridge.
Perhaps my only unique lyrics' accident.

You shouldn't feel crushed, the meanings are close to each other.
