10.

It freaks me out, but I like it. I wouldn't say no...

This is my favorite #2, only "Late Night, Maudlin Street" beats this one. The perfect opener to the world's best album.
:)

10. A true Smiths classic.

I love this song, It's my faviourite song of all time, although it's close with There is a light that never goes out. My favourite line is -You can pin and mount me like a butterfly. 10/10:)

One of the first Moz songs I ever heard on John Peel that made me sit and think
"what is this?It sounds great and completely different from anything else"

For some reason, probably because Brideshead Revisited was on tv at the time,I was always think of Charles and Sebastian reeling drunk around the fountain at Brideshead.

This is the first Smiths song I ever heard, so it has special significance to me. I remember being almost shocked by Morrissey's crooning vocals. Nobody that I listened to sang like that - it was almost a throwback to Sinatra. My first thought was that he was the bravest of modern vocalists to actually croon like that. And his voice was so deep and monochromatic - I wasn't quite sure of it at first, but I soon grew to love it.

Musically, the song is beautiful from the brilliant opening drum pattern, the lovely chiming chord pattern, and the typically masterful bass playing. But lyrically, it is astounding. "It's time the tale were told of how you took a child and you made him old" has to be one of the greatest opening lines ever, and the entire song reveals just enough to keep it interesting, but not so much that the mystery is destroyed. Really, Morrissey should listen to this song again to refresh his memory on how to write brilliant lyrics.

What more can be said? One of the greatest of all Smiths songs and an easy 10.

the mystery is destroyed. Really, Morrissey should listen to this song again to refresh his memory on how to write brilliant lyrics.

.

I've been thinking that exact same thing for a while especially considering his recent lyrical output

Comtesse said it best.

"But take me to the haven of your bed
was something that you never said
two lumps please, you're the bees knees
but so am I"

I rest my case. No further evidence.
