i really like this, quite a lot.

8.

I like it, but still it's Paint A Vulgar Picture vol.2. The stick that has two ends.

Never got in to this song until I heard him playing it live but think it's pretty good with a great tune

it's the one decent song on Southpaw Grammar!
there are some great melodies on this especially the guitar lines and the strings which remind me of a Lloyd Cole song (not sure which...).

according to Morrissey, it's Boz Boorer's finest composition. not true, of course, but it's still pretty flipping good.
well done Martin!

I like this one. It's "tough guy" Morrissey, and that's always good for a classic tune. He should eat his Wheaties more often.

It's definitely one of the best songs from Southpaw Grammar, which isn't saying much, really. There's really nothing particularly notable about it, it's just as solid pop song. An 8.

a 7

Great lyrics, good tune, a song which I really had come into, as the whole
of Southpaw Grammar cost me years to apreciate

Bring back Steve Lilliwhite [must make that a sigline]

I was so happy that they performed this song during the early part of the tour last year. It sounded great. Don't know why they dropped it.
From me a resounding 10! :)

"Reader" is a forgotten great track. Boz sounds amazing on it. I believe the lyrics are about Richard Allen - a middle class and middle aged man who wrote books about skinheads, borstals and football hooligans. They were badly written, trashy "novels" and Mr Allen was just raking it in by writing these "horrible" stories.....which weren't a part of his life at all.
Some of Richard Allen's books are fetching ridiculous money on eBay....

You're probably right about this song. It's got a great melody and is instantly likeable. 8 from me.

You probably mean Rattlesnakes? I never thought of it before, but yes, this song has definitely a Lloyd Cole-vibe, which is a good thing of course :)

Not the best song on Southpaw (that would be Southpaw for me), but certainly the most 'radio-friendly'. Also the most played Southpaw-song live, and the most recently played Southpaw-one (so quite possibly the last)...

I give it 9.

love the song!

but i thought i read at the time the lyrics were regarding Martin Amis? Or maybe that was just the journalists assumption.

7/10. I like it.
