It's an okay album track, but nothing special. It's another of those songs (like "Vicar In A Tutu," "Frankly Mr. Shankly" and "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others") that make me question why The Queen Is Dead is held up as a masterpiece. I give it a 7.

i've never been able to make my mind up about this song. its one of those songs i'd never put on specifically to listen to it but i'd never skip it either. however this song reminds of a certain time in my life:mad:and when i do hear it i automatically think of that time. 5/10.

I gave this song an 8. As usual. haha. But musically I really like it. The guitars are great. It's so morbid, I love it. But at the same time I think it is a bit too long. Overall though, its a good song I think.

Meh. I've been listening to Meat is Murder a lot recently, and compared to a lot of the stellar songs on that album most of TQID seems lacklustre, especially tracks like this. A 6.

I think this is a very underated track, evokes emotion.

"I had a really bad dream
It lasted 20 years, 7 months, and 27 days"

:D

Because the other six songs are all 10s!
And the 'lesser' songs you mention are really quite brilliant too, especially Shankly and Some Girls.
This one gets an 8.
Great music, and great lyrics, especially the 'Now I'm outside your house' and '20 years, 7 months and 27 days' bits.

there is only a few smiths songs I rate higher than this one. 9.
it's highly underrated. so much emotions, especially in the music.

patchy Smiths song alert! 6/10 from me.
quite like the Billy Bragg cover; nice unusual arrangement and I can actually make out the lyrics better which doesn't say much for Morrissey's intonation!

Suffers a little bit for following "I Know It's Over" on the album, but still a very good track in its own right, and definitely underrated. 8/10.

I think it follows "I know it's over" perfectly, the same theme of being alone and unrequieted love. The lyrics in this song are up there with anything Moz has ever wrote in my opinion. Like HSIN, not too many lyrics but what's there is precious and just pure genius.

Interestingly, does anyone know why Moz made the title a double-negative? something similar to the intentional misspelling of "cemetry gates"?

I always liked that line, "I'm alone, and I'm outside your house. I hate to intrude"

What he's saying there has a real hint of obsession or even danger.

One of their most overlooked songs. I give it a 10.

A very dark musical atmosphere, great vocals, and a good lyric.

Certainly not one of the first songs to strike you on the album, but over time I've really grown to love it.... probably one of the darkest Smiths songs of all.

Brilliant music & lyrics - 9.

a 6

the subject of the song is good, Morrissey should've put more lyrics
in to it, musicly its nothing.
I still wonder why they choose this song for the album 'the Queen is dead'.
