a 6

gave it one point extra concerning the historical background
as a song it's poor, lyrics mediocre... IMHO one of the 3 weakest song
from Quarry area, I didn't understand why HE even gave it a place
in his setlist on some summerfestivals 2004 [and a few gigs]...

I have to think about this. I almost gave it a 9 because I like it a lot. I love the airplane engine sounds and the lyrics are pretty good. I'll have to think about it.

awful. i think i've only played it twice.

don't u know the story? he's singing about all those dead football players. how can you people be so disrespectful? I think he's hot when he's sad. I wann comfort him. I hope he plays it in mexico.

This is one of the usual names on "English for the English" threads. I have to say though that during my school-years I was obsessed with aviation, so there you have it.

I like this song and gave it a 10. I admit in the same breath that it is disturbing, and I do not listen to it too often.

Superb lyrics but fatal sound, too bad. Could have been *sigh* so brilliant.

'Morrissey song disaster 2004' more like!
Actually it's not that bad. Just a fairly dull b-side.
The worst thing was when he segued into this song from Subway in the live shows in late 2004. We were all expecting to hear 'Everyday' and he switched it for this!

I'm not a Man Utd fan but I really like this song.

It's a decent b-side, but there's nothing to really recommend it. Whenever he would do the "Subway Train" introduction live I always wished he'd just keep playing "Subway Train" instead of switching to "Munich..." The melody is good, the music is good, but it's really the line, "I wish I'd gone down with them to where Mother Nature makes their bed" that annoys me. I like the "I wish I'd gone down with them" part... but "where Mother Nature makes their bed" - that just sounds awkward and silly. Petty complaint, I know, but it's the petty things that kill me!

All in all, I give this one a 7.

beautiful fitting tribute. Another example of Moz looking at 'difficult' subject matter that few others would attempt to write about.

8

The intro on Live at Earls Court makes it better I think. But if it were recorded like that on the studio version perhaps I wouldnt be as fond of the live. The world may never know. But this was one of my prefered songs on the extended version of YATQ. A solid 8 I say.

thanks for the youtube clip

I understand you're not agreeing with me concerning this song.
well we all have our own taste, even when it comes to Smiths and Morrissey songs

greetings

No, I DO agree, I was only quoting the man himself.
This song was completely unsuited to be played at Reading or Leeds, hence the clip :)

I gave it a 6; even of the Morrissey subgenre of "songs that could have been written and performed by early 1960s crooners and/or girl groups," this is not the best example. And lyrically, it doesn't even begin to approach the sensitivity and profundity of "Suffer Little Children," which is another song I think it can be fairly compared with.
