I like this one when I'm in the mood for it, but it doesn't compare to the great ones, and I can't give them all 10's. I gave a 7.

The words are clumsy and the melody isn't strong but I still think it's pretty alright.

I've never liked this one, don't like the lyrics. And it's weird because all the other songs from this period are among my favorites. 5.

What a stinker!! This is one of those songs that Morrissey writes every so often where he decides upon a topic that's outside of his comfort zone of personal angst and he fails miserably. ("This Is Not My Country" is the other perfect example of this.) The lyrics are laughably weak and the music is uninspired. Easily the worst of the batch of new songs he introduced during the 2002 tour. I give it a generous 4.

I find myself singing this song all the time for no apparent reason. Just this morning while getting ready for work I started singing "...if you're rich and you're white, you think you're so right..."

So the fact that this is the song of the day, is kind of creepy. But I do enjoy how relaxing this song is. I gave it an 8.

I feel like joining "The Lone Gunmen", but whatever...

So, I think the lyrics are still personal, and if you look at them diagonally, they consist of more than one level (AFAICT he IS rich and white - the friend and the enemy, 2-in-1). All in all, it's the same old political dichotomy. I gave 9.

The music is of the same melancholic hue as the rest of the single, "My Life..." and "Teenage Dad..."

Lastly, This Is Not Your Country is interesting, but I'll save that for T's.

i thought it was an ok song during 2002.. by the time it got put on TFOTGTD b-sides it was really weak and hollow sounding.. a 5

a 6

one of the 5 new songs Morrissey did during his 2002 tour, this one is
far out the weakest.
Predictable lyrics about his driving days, while living in LA, to Mexico cq
areas in South CA

next!

i LOVE this song
only for the chorus
it is so dramatically romantic and so brilliant

in mexico i lay on the grass and i cried my heart out for want of my love

its just brilliant

I'm in Mexico right now and have been traveling around the country for some weeks, and I would really like to know in which part of Mexico he wrote the song. He has never said anything about that has he?

I like this song. I gave it 7, which was maybe a bit harsh. The lyrics are comparatively good when you look at the rest of Quarry. The music isn't particularly exciting, but it has a nice crooning quality to it, as most Boz tracks do (I'm beginning to suspect he was a secret member of the Rat Pack). The live version in San Diego is a good 'un, especially when Moz introduces it by saying, "We were going to call this song Don't Cry For Me Pasadena but it sounded a little over-familiar!" :D

Coiff.
