I love Vini Reilly's guitar on this : SO sad and beautiful

Hackneyed and lazy; Morrissey talks through the lyrics in plodding fashion, and the songwriting itself is pure self-indulgence from Moz's point of view. I don't like Thatcher (although my antipathy is based on reading, and must be pretty tepid compared to certain people who lived through it), but she's such an easy target and Morrissey's venom and spleen for this women just isn't all that interesting. The guillotine sound is cheesy in my opinion, and comes of as daft rather than threatening, and the repeated "Please die" has to be one of the most ungracueful, unpoetic things Moz has ever put to song. And not in a good way.

A 4 from me.

Very funny song. You can just imagine them all falling about laughing in the studio as it ends. :p

It's not a masterpiece, but a funny little track. I read that the "falling scaffold knife" sound at the end was Vini Reilly's idea.

rubbish

a fun track indeed, nice music. 7.
good to see everyday is like sunday in the lead again.
to bad my favorites are in place 36 and 75! outrageous. :p

Of course, I adore the sentiments (especially when I replace "Margaret" with a certain leader of the free world who shall remain nameless for fear of a very long "vacation" in Eastern Europe), but there isn't much of a melody and the music is among the blandest of Stephen Street's compositions. Blah, blah, blah. I give it a 6.

i feel it was just an add on to the lp, couldn't put it anywhere in the lp tracking listing, so stick it on the end. Should of put it on a singles B-side.

No good karma... Songs like this explain nicely why Morrissey, unlike some of his friends, did not become a buddhist:p

I don't know if this has been mentioned but if Morrissey plays a new song live then will that be included in this poll or is it just recorded songs?

this is one of morrisseys worst songs in my opinion. I just can never get mysef to listen to the whole thing. I always have to turn it over. :(

Love it to DEATH. Hilarious lyrics, sung paradoxically over the top of some of the most beautiful music in his solo catalogue. 9 from me.

The lyrics are good, but unfortunately the music just doesn't cut it.
If you're going to make fun of royalty, or anything, hum, do it like "the Queen is dead," its just more creative, and its not a waste of ink.

It seems I'm alone thinking that the music is really beautiful and that the song isn't humourous at all:more a sad longing desire to see the witch finally taken care of

a 6

should be a 5 but gave it 1 point extra for the title

weak fillertrack from Viva Hate, which suprises me cause HE had good
material which later released on several b-sides
Typical Morrissey, he makes that error over and over on every album,
or HE simply holds a few good songs that gonna be b-sides from the singletracks, I dunno what descision is right or wrong

I gave a 10 because I can't imagine anyone else singing this. Maybe that's due to my lack of imagination. Also I love the line "People like you make me feel so tired".

And someone could write a really good paper where they compare the way he does this violent (?) song in such a sedate way as opposed to the way it used to be a real punk thing to take some pop hit and punk it up.

Of course Limp Bizkit put an end to that when they did George Michael's "faith", and it's a shame. Once again Morrissey stands diametrically opposed to Fred Dirst and everyone that thinks like him. A+
