Eccentric, lo-fi, classic Morrissey, maybe a lesser 10, but still, a classic. 10.

It's a minor song, but it's lovely and it has interesting, nostalgic lyrics. I was pleasantly surprised when he played this one live - I never thought that would happen! One of my favorite moments on Viva Hate but still not more than an 8.

"I was pleasantly surprised when he played this one live - I never thought that would happen!" --when/what tour was that?

I think it's an interesting, short number. I like the strumming guitar and a couple of lines: "4 seasons passed and they AXED you", and "down to a few lines in the back page of a fffaded annual..." The song is a nice little bridge from Alsatian Cousin to Everyday is Like Sunday. A 6 from moi.

a 9

a little gem on Viva Hate, an album I favour over ROTT and Southpaw...

nice lyrics who take you away within the song

friday nights 1969 ATV you murdered every line
to old to be a child star, to young to take leads
four seasons past, and they axed you

and then the finest line

nervous juvenile won't smile, what became of you?

absolutely brilliant

[btw the lyrics i wrote came from me memory so there could be errors, I'm not from an english speaking country]

I really, really don't like this song. Some songs I skip because I'm not in the mood for them, Little Man is skipped everytime without question.

essential to the oepning of Viva Hate, the manner in which Alsation Cousin segues into this and then into Everyday Is Like Sunday.

Very clever title in relation to the length of the song.

Astonished when he played this in 2002!

A 9.

A star at 18
And then sudeenly gone
Down to the backpages of a faded annual....

Allegedly the protaganist of this song is the bloke who played the Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist, Jack Wild.

More tragedy....

He played it during the 2002 tour.

All the people who voted ten are awesome. Coincidence? Well...yes...it is...but still, the song is great, and so are those who voted a ten.

@ Helios;
you seem to care for almost nothing, why bother to vote, and comment...

Do I? In the last 5 Morrissey songs, I've given out an 8 & a 9.

Maybe you don't like the fact that I've given some songs very low ratings.

Well, that's the whole point of the scale. It's a scale of Smiths & Morrissey songs. Hence my favourites should get 9-10s & the songs I dislike a 2 or 3.

Some people on here seem to be voting everything a 7 or higher. That would be appropriate it the songs were being compared to the latest N'Sync single. However, it's not - it's only a Smiths/Morrissey scale & these people are missing the point.

A seven from me, an average track with an annoying drum beat.

Celibate, this is a good example.

Per Houdini's scale, a 7 should be a "Good Moz/Smiths song".

This poster has clearly stated he finds the music average with annoying drumming. By this standard, he should have voted 5 or 6.

Compared to the latest RnB single, this song is a 10. However, that's not the scale here.

Thanks. I missed it --he didn't come to Chicago. Did you travel to see him?

OK, I must get back (or start it!) to work before I get stone cold busted. no fun

I didn't live in Chicago back then - I was in California (my home state). I moved to Chicago in 2004, just in time for the Quarry shows. I saw him in Berkeley, CA during 2002.
