It's just got to be 10! One of The Smiths greatest songs, and the saddest song ever written. A classic.

A work of incredible beauty, and I would say the last indisputable classic song The Smiths produced. I love everything about the song - from the opening piano chord to the fade-out. The opening piano sequence is one of Johnny's most eclectic and beautiful pieces of music, and the madding crowd sounds that accompany it are absolutely perfect. (Morrissey's use of extraneous sound files was always spot-on.) The lyrics are superb and Morrissey's vocal is among his best ever, especially in the "It goes on..." falsetto at the end. Just a gorgeous piece of pop art. It was also excellent when Morrissey performed it live. An obvious 10.

Ten, no contest. There are other songs I love by The Smiths, but this is one of the greatest.

No hope
No harm
Just another false alarm...

The fattest 10 of them all:D

A 10 if ever there was one. When that fantastic intro comes to a crescendo and the vocals kick in, it makes my hair stand on end every time. Heart-achingly poignant and perfect lyrics, the whole thing is pure genius.

I had loads of trouble getting into this. It was weird at first because I really became put of such a long intro which to me just seemed to tumble and plod along. However, after a few hundred more listenings I decided that this truly is a pure classic and makes me proud to be a Smiths fan. I voted a 9 as my silly sub-conciousness fails to allow me give 10. Three songs that are in mind at the moment which certainly deserve 10 are: How Soon Is Now?, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out and I Know It's Over.

10

Its just one of those special songs that always make me stop and really listent to it. Its hard to just have on as 'background noise' - if you know what I mean.

10

They were 4 songs that got me into the Smiths and this was one of them. I can clearly remember last summer hearing this song for the first time and hearing the intro and just being blown away and giving me shills and still does. It's too beautiful!! In my top everything.:D

I dont really care for the long intro. I would like the song better w/out that. and maybe if it had another verse? I dunno. I still really like it, but not one of my alltime favs. 8.

I believe this is Morrissey's favourite Smiths song too.

I voted 10 - no need to think to even think about it.
