An 8 from me. Miles better than You Have Killed Me, in my opinion, but equally weak lyrics in parts :( it is saved by the music!

Good...but not great...reminds me at times Of Certain People I Know...has a similar feel to it....And may be forgotten like it...since it's not great, but not bad either

A resounding 8 for me, wasn't keen on it at the beginning but it grew on me and it's a song I love to sing in the shower, a nice upbeat rock tune.

Like most Morrissey fans, I like to draw parallels between Moz and myself. This is one of those songs on Ringleader that hits me in the gut as a middle-aged person facing that quick slide into oblivion. To me, the song is about death, and facing it without fear. As someone who has survived suicide attempts and never thought I'd live past age 17/18/21/30/40, I can deeply relate to the line, "Living longer than I had intended / Something must have gone right" (or even the concert variation, "wrong").

And the T. Rex-inspired music is great too. This is a great song, but it's not up there with his best.

Well, I can be pretty critical of the modern-day Morrissey stuff but this one is fantastic! Was actually pretty underwhelmed when I first heard it (and surprised that so many reviewers had singled it out as a highlight) but it just grows and grows (especially live).
I love the swooping vocal lines, the wonderfully upbeat chorus ("I thank you with all of my heart"; brilliant!), the crunchy middle eight and the pleasingly succinct ending!

Well done Mr J Tobias. Oh, and well done Moz!

I agree with everything he said. I didn't think it was all that great at first, and the ending is one of my favorite parts to any Morrissey song.

I have quite a soft spot for this song. 9*

The music is a tad bland, but the overall sentiment of the song is what I enjoy.
For some reason the simple lines "Confront what you are a afraid of..." and the combination of the guitar do nice things to me....

Nowt better than a 5.

Musically and melodically it's a meek update of 'Daddy's Voice' (itself a few hectares short of a masterpiece). The Bolan influence is alas Marc at his most plodding compared to the inspired Rex Xeroxes Panic, Shoplifters and Certain People.

The nadir is the insipid badum-ch of 'something must have gone...right', which reminds me of Alan Partridge. Who he?

It's not awful. It was the track that first sprang into my ears when I started listening to ROTT. However, it wears off quite quickly, in my opinion.

Therefore, 6.

**7**

Nothing special, I'm being generous.

An 8... always liked it and probably one of my favorites of Ringleader and live was great and happy to hear it.:)

5/10. Quite a poor song really. Cant believe someone thought it was good enough to be a single.

How on earth can anyone give this a 9?????? What does that make songs like the Queen is Dead, Bigmouth, Irish Blood etc. Never a 9. Never. What utter twaddle.

Soz, mate but I think Irish Blood is a great big pile of pants.
Muddled political lyrics and, musically, a third-rate attempt at the quiet-verse, loud-chorus grunge thing. One of M’s worst singles. What utter twaddle.
