When you've been slapped around then one more slap won't hurt yooooooooo-hooooo
First to vote! Yes! and we are at 100% 10'er.

2nd vote, 100% ten:D

First class Morrissey trade mark. Seems made to make you nostaligic.

You know, I like this song. It's a good song. It's fun to sing along to. But it really doesn't seem like anything special. I don't know why. I had to give it a 7. Thankfully, some other people had voted before me and brought the score down already so I don't feel too terribly guilty.

Was surprised by how good this is.
Should have been an A-Side....

The complete opposite of Ganglord: poor music, good lyrics

The music is lackluster in this one, isn't it? That's the word for this song. Lackluster.

Compared to other people's music, it's pretty good. Compared to the rest of Morrissey/The Smiths catalog, notsomuch.

(though I must respectfully disagree with your assessment of Ganglord's lyrics...but that's for THAT thread).

This song has always been a personal favorite of mine. I think it's actually one of the best songs from the Ringleader sessions, and that's saying something!

I often view the music as Jesse's little version of "First Of The Gang To Die". The chorus reminds me of that song, especially the bass.

First to vote! Yes! and we are at 100% 10'er.

I really disliked this when it first came out. Then, after I listened to ROTT a couple hundred times, I gave it another chance, and I really like it. I too love the slapped around line. Against better judgement I gave it an EIGHT!

I cant vote coz i havent listented to it yet :(
where can I find it?
Anyone have it handy? post!:D

That's so honest of you to disclose the truth..... I like you :)

I give it a 9

a 6

as I said earlier in this poll about ROTT songs, a few would get 5 and 6's, and
that ROTT is not my fav. album, not by a milestone...but much better , as
someone wrote, the crap you hear on radio and see on TV

[and sorry bout exiting ya all yesterday with 'I know it's over']

I think maybe this is one that you get or you don't. It's an obvious 10 to me, and I was excited when I saw it was today's song. Sometimes I like to sing "I knew I was Sex" :D

Thanks Houdini!

Let's review the lyrics.

o what do you think I am?
And how precisely could you tell
A decent skin is all I am?
People think badly of me
But one day maybe they'll praise
Oh but meanwhile...

I knew I was next
And I didn't mind
Here I offer you my life for any debts you're due
And when you've been down for the very last time
There is nothing anyone can do to hurt you

The shadows of trees, they reach to me
They know a decent skin is all I am
People think badly of me
But when I'm in grave maybe they'll praise
Oh but meanwhile...

I knew I was next
And I didn't mind
Here I offer you my life for any debts you're due
And when you've been down for the very last time
There is nothing anyone can do to hurt you

Oh but meanwhile...
I knew I was next
And I didn't mind
When you've been slapped around
And one more slap can't hurt you
And when you've been down for the very last time
There is nothing anyone can do to hurt you

I knew I was next
And I didn't mind
When you've been slapped around
And one more slap can't hurt you
And when you've been down for the very last time
There is nothing anyone can say to hurt you

I feel like I have lived that. It's one of my favorites.
