The setlist was the same as on the previous night, plus an extra encore of "Barbarism Begins At Home" which lasted 15 minutes. This final concert of the Smiths' first ever North American tour was a complete success despite the occasional sound problems and technical difficulties.

Coming on stage, Morrissey greeted the audience "Good evening!" before launching into a slow but passionate version of "Meat Is Murder". After "Nowhere Fast" in which the Smiths experienced a few technical difficulties, Morrissey apologised "Sorry about all those mishaps and squeaks... and err... sorry about the songs, this is the way it has to be." Soon after, "Stretch Out And Wait" was introduced with "This song is called 'Stretch Out And Wait'." The song suffered from more of those 'mishaps and squeaks' heard in "Nowhere Fast".

After "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now", to someone who kept shouting his name, Morrissey shouted "What!?" in a voice that almost sounded angry. He kept that tone in his performance of "What She Said" which followed. After "Still Ill" Morrissey said "Thank you friends." Before "Reel Around The Fountain", Morrissey said "Thank you... you're very kind, thank you".

Returning for the second of three encores, Morrissey exclaimed "We didn't expect this, thank you!" before going into "William It Was Really Nothing". Two songs later the Smiths did a very rocking version of "Miserable Lie" in which Morrissey took a few liberties with the melody of certain lines. For the third encore the Smiths did a version of "Barbarism Begins At Home" which lasted fifteen minutes. It was to be that song's last ever live performance. The show (and the Smiths' first North American tour) then ended in a massive stage invasion.

BOOTLEGS

A 'good' audience recording of this concert was released on a bootleg double LP set titled "Headmasters". It includes the complete concert as well as the intro music, but lacks the first few bars of "Jeane". This bootleg was later transfered on fanmade CD-R with the same title but different artwork and is circulated as such nowadays within trading circles and on file sharing networks. It must be noted that a different transfer of the same recording to cd and mp3 lacks the final "Barbarism Begins At Home" marathon, perhaps because of lack of space.

There is a rumoured soundboard recording of this date in very limited circulation.

Merci, merci, merci beaucoup.I'm listening to it now, it's excellent.
For me the 2 link are different.Intro to Jeane for disk 1, and The Headmaster Ritual to Barbarism with the second link.

What I want to say is that the two link correspond exactly to what you want to do.The first link is the disk1, and the link two is the disk2.
So, once again thanks for your hard works, it's a really great show and a fantastic work.

Hey drifter, can you keep this gig up? Im at work and our stupid ass IT guy firewalled all mp3downloading sites, so I got DL this when I get home. Cool?

The 2-LP bootleg of this show was in the box of goodies I got the other night. I'll take offers in the Marketplace section soon. If it doesn't attract much I'll bung it on Ebay. It's in very good condition indeed.

The infamous "Thank Your Lucky Stars" bootleg is credited as being from this date, but it is actually from the following gig in Irvine. (passionsjust..)

so this mozzbox link for the la concert:

Aug 26 - Los Angeles (CA), Studio City's Universal Amphitheater http://www.megaupload.com/?d=10umII3b

is actually the concert from the irvine meadows concert 28 august 86 ?

ok I got it now-confusing...;-)

Sistasheila want to download the bootleg 'thank your lucky star' on your mozzbozz. The date of this concert on the cd is wrong, it's the concert from the 28/08/1986, and not the 26/08/1986(see passions just like mine site).I've noticed that you've made the link for 'thank your lucky star' at the wrong date.So no problem.Thank again for your mozzbozz.
