Yep, Heaton has Morrissey whipped! Here are some more categories where he's superior:

Cool bass player (first band):

Heaton 10 Morrissey 7

Travestied soul music, made Paul Weller sound like Marvin Gaye in comparison:

Heaton 8 Morrissey 0

Mixed Christianity and Marxism making a joke of both:

Heaton 10 Morrissey 0

Spent career in shadow of more talented cardigan-sporting frontman:

Heaton 10 Morrissey 0

Alcoholism

Heaton 10 Morrissey 1

P.S. I love Paul Heaton.

Seriously, please don't mention Paul Heaton to me. I had to spend my entire childhood suffering whilst my brother listened to godawful records by the Beautiful South and the Housemartins.

It's like comparing a one-night stand to sex with someone you love - or burgers and chips to the finest steak and red wine - there is a time and place in my life and in my heart for both of them it just depends which way it's beating at the time.

When I say "them" I mean Heaton and Moz (just in case my missus is listening )

Heaton is a genius and I'm thankful that he's getting *some* recognition here but sad that it doesn't come along too often (perhaps because he's his own worst PR with the way he puts himself down in interviews?)

How about this for another factor (taking Worms fine example):

Actively contributes to "his" forums:

Heaton 10 Moz 0

heaton was good until, approx., 1990. or thereabouts.

he's not so good, now.

seems like a decent chap, though.

I can have both in my record collection...can't I? Paul Heaton as a figure of worship, sorry he's too much like the bloke in the pub eating Cheese & onion crisps and supping Mild

How can there possibly be a compare and contrast of the has-been Heaton and Morrissey?
If there had been no Morrissey, I doubt if I would love Heaton in any comparable way. Basically, no bloody contest!

Housemartins were average, The Beautiful South are shite.

Anyone that chooses to move to Hull deserves to be shot.

3 good things to come out of Hull:-
Mick Ronson
Tom Courtnay

I have very little strong opinion on Paul Heaton, except to say that 'A Little Time' was one of my favourite songs as a kid.
But it's funny this thread should appear, as the other day I took 'Suedehead' into work (by way of introduction for my non-Moz fan colleagues) and warned them that Morrissey's voice was the dividing line. No sooner had it kicked in when one of them piped up and said "I like his voice, he sounds like that bloke from The Beautiful South."
I'm not so sure, but there's another comparitive point for you.
