hello! so, i am making a mixtape for someone who has (allegedly) never heard a single morrissey song but who's going to the dec 8th wembley concert (i didn't want to go on my own and she's the only one of my friends with more money than sense!). now she's handed over her thirty five quid she wants to actually hear some of moz's songs (some people are so demanding), so i am making her an Introduction To Moz mix. this is harder than it might sound. please help me!

i've divided it into 2 cds: smiths & solo, because there was no way it was going to fit on 1, but i need a hand with
a) cutting it down
b) making sure the songs i've picked are actually reasonably accessible.
(i've also vaguely tried to include some songs that he might actually play)

CD 1: SMITHS
1. this charming man
2. hand in glove
3. still ill
4. william it was really nothing
5. the headmaster ritual
6. that joke isn't funny anymore
7. how soon is now?

12. there is a light
13. i know it's over
14. shoplifters of the world unite
15. girlfriend in a coma
16. stop me if you think you've heard this one before
17. sheila take a bow
18. you just haven't earned it yet baby
19. panic
20. ask

(i was originally going to put them in chronological order but then i just started sticking them in random places)

CD 2: MOZ SOLO
1. suedehead
2. everyday is like sunday
3. i don't mind if you forget me
4. the last of the famous international playboys
5. hairdresser on fire
6. interesting drug
7. november spawned a monster
8. glamorous glue
9. the national front disco
10. you're the one for me fatty
11. sister i'm a poet
12. now my heart is full
13. billy budd
14. the more you ignore me
15. first of the gang to die
16. irish blood english heart
17. let me kiss you
18. you have killed me
19. i will see you in far-off places
20. the youngest was the most loved

so basically anything i need to add? anything i was mad to even consider putting on?

thanks in advance!

p.s. this is my first post. long time lurker & all that!

Well, I could help you with putting together Vol. III but cutting it down??? I just can't!
Okay, I'll try: Billy Budd we don't need. Glamourous glue neither (I know! I love them too!). Frankly Shankly has to go as well.
Where the hell is the boy with the thorn? As far as I can see you only got youth in your side... oh no, it's ON your side. Even better. And what about Jack the Ripper and Friday Mourning and I Like You and SUNNY (!!! my moz-hating friends loved that one!) and Some Girls Are Bigger and The Queen Is Dead and...
Okay, I officially failed to help you - but I tried real hard!

Cheers
Sonar

P.S.: My last Smiths/Moz Best of for my friend: I needed 2 days to put the songs together and ended up with 5 CDs (of course I still had the feeling that 5 just wasn't enough).

dear Sonar,

you are not making things easier!! obviously all the songs you mentioned should be on there and i am an idiot for thinking that i could leave them out without them sending their brothers in to beat me up. (woe, etc.)

i was not sure about friday mourning actually, because she seems to have that idea that moz's music is 'songs to slit your wrists to' as opposed to songs that saved your life, and it is not an entirely cheery song and

THIS IS VERY DIFFICULT INDEED

p.s. thanks!
