SXSW Wednesday March 16th: proof (if more were needed) that God hates me

Codreanu

Such nightmare in scheduling, involving six of my favourite artists, is an infliction BEYOND anything attributable to chance alone.

Were these performances conveniently located and more sequential, there would be no way in hell I would miss this. *sigh*

1) Trespassers William

Wednesday, March 16 9:00 p.m.
Copa (217 N Congress AveCopa)
http://2005.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/20222.html

"Singer Anna-Lynne Williams has one of those crystal-clear voices made up of shyness, loneliness and quiet despair, while her band dream up the kind of space country that might have sound tracked 'Twin Peaks: The Comedown Years'.
-NME

"...it makes you feel iike you're listening to music for the first time. Yeah, the album 'different stars is that good...."
-CitizenRobot .com

"Trespassers William draft warm songs in a cold world. Dreamy melancholy ripples across the lonely stillness of this Southern California band's psychedelic folk-pop."
-M. Myers (KEXP)

"...her voice is immediately lovable and her inconsolable world-weariness completely convincing. Moving, even. Each song unfolds through a swathe of reverb and allows Anna-Lynne acres of space to express her woes with quiet dignity. File alongside Red House Painters, another band all too aware of the terrifying beauty of sadness."

2) Lazarus

Wednesday, March 16 10:00 p.m.
Eternal (418 E 6Stth)
http://2005.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/17071.html

A dear artist, whose his second album, along w/ two releases from other bands (I can do that), was my pick for "album of the year" 2004.

3) S.

Emo's Jr. (603 Red River St) 10:00 p.m.
http://2005.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/15385.html

"S. represents the solo career of Jenn Ghetto; co-leader of Seattle’s sorely missed CARISSA’S WIERD. On her second full-length record, Puking and Crying, Ghetto together with Josh Wackerly and Creighton Barrett, collect dark and hauntingly intimate songs, surely classified as organic even with the strange electronics, drum loops, blips and clicks involved."

I'm fine... bye bye

4) Liz Durrett

Wednesday, March 16 12:00 a.m.
Pecan St. Ale House (310 E 6th St (Alley Entrance))
http://2005.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/20256.html

"Woeful, hypnotic and mysterious are just a few words that describe the intense musical stylings of indie-folk rocker Liz Durrett. This Georgia native uses her vocal and violin talents to invoke deep moods and strange memories. Hovering just above the level of true depression, Durrett’s music captures a unique sadness that is the very cause of its beauty."

5) Parker and Lily

Wednesday, March 16 1:00 a.m.
Pecan St. Ale House (310 E 6th St (Alley Entrance))
http://2005.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/20130.html

"The Low Lows": Codreanu's favourite album of 2005.

"A hauntingly lovely collection of music that sounds as if it was written for some strange memorial service... to classify the music that Parker & Lily makes as simply rock is much like calling "Memento" a film simply about a guy who has trouble remembering things... Cutting through the fog of instrumentation is Noon's voice, which is as undecipherable as Michael Stipe on R.E.M.'s "Murmur" album, yet as beautiful as that of Portishead's Beth Gibbons...If Tuesday Addams had a Top 10 music chart, chances are that Parker & Lily would be somewhere near the top." - CHARLESTON POST

The Low Lows" is consumed by relentless musical decay, from timorous organs wavering over pedal-steel theatrics to Noon's lo-fi vocals that vaporize into reverb. It's a startling exaltation of Parker and Lily's personal breakup... Eventually, you're left to wonder: If this is the sound of heartbreak, why do I feel so in love?" - BOSTON GLOBE

"Songs of regret and songs of vehemence... The mood is darker, more somber, than ever before… thickly orchestrated and full of beautiful sounds... reverbs thicker than Phil Spector ever dreamed of... The lyrics are amazing on this record, showing real growth in Parker's writing, and it is definitely worth the time to sit and listen and try to cipher them out of the mix..." - HYBRID

you aren't serious, cod...the 16th is thursday!

this is a joke, right? i haven't heard of any of these bands, and i don't see a schedule anywhere on the website unless you have inside connections, and even so, i mean, really.....you'd take morrissey over any of these bands?
