In an article called "Headful Of Heroes" in the NME of 16 September 1989, Morrissey made a list of his favorite songs at the time. The list, called "Singles To Be Cremated With", reads as follows:

1. The World's Loneliest Man - Vince Eager
2. Don't Take The Lovers From The World - Shirley Bassey
3. What A Nice Way To Turn 17 - The Crystals
4. There, I've Said It Again - Sam Cooke
5. Loneliness Remembers What Happiness Forgets - Dionne Warwick
6. Strange, I Know - The Marvelettes
7. Third Finger, Left Hand - Martha Reeves And The Vandellas
8. I Take It Back - Sandy Posey
9. Heart - Rita Pavone
10. Shoes - Reparata
11. Terry - Twinkle
12. Attack - The Toys
13. I've Been A Bad, Bad Boy - Paul Jones
14. Insult To Injury - Timi Yuro

I've tracked down 11 of the songs, and put them in a zip-file for your listening pleasure. Missing are tracknrs. 1, 2 and 5. Anyone able to share them?

Very cool compilation. Sorry, I don't have any of the three songs, but wanted to thank you.

Thank you for an excellent post! Sorry I can't help with the missing songs though....

Wow, thank you so much for these.
It's my kind of music.

Strange you couldn't find number 2 or 5, those seem common. 1 seems difficult.

Give me your email address and I'll hunt these down for you.

> Give me your email address and I'll hunt these down for you.

Thanks! Why don't you post them up here? There's more people who'd like to hear those...

I planned to friend.
Just wanted to email them to you as well in case you don't see the post on the forum in the future.

Looks like someone submitted number 5 already.

ok, thanks, Dallow!

There's a Morrissey fan site out there with alot of his favorite songs (including past intro and outro music) anyone remember the address ?

do you mean this?

http://www.keiselt.de/westham/

the songs are offline...

Re: do you mean this?

Thanks, that's a great site but that's not the one. The site I'm thinking of was a newer one...Sorry I can't describe it better.

Re: The Loneliest Man in the World by Vince Eager

I have a cunning plan!

This will take a week or two to come to fruition but all good things are worth waiting for. I'm going to write to Brian Matthew and his producer Roger "The Vocalist" Bowman to ask if they'll play this track on the 'Sounds of eth Sixties' radio show on BBC Radio 2. I might have to think up some cheesey story about how I heard this track once and have never been able to find it again - or do you think it's best to say that I want to hear it just because Morrissey likes it. Sometimes honesty is the best policy!

I think they enjoy a challenge on 'S.o.t.S.'

BTW I love obscure links. Last Saturday they played an odd track I'd not heard before called 'Devil with the blue dress' and knock me down with a feather if the title of an interview in that day's Guardian magazine wasn't "Devil in a blue dress". Odd, very odd.

Tingle, you are the best!
I would love you for doing this!
I don't know what the best strategy would be like as I have never heard that program. Maybe honesty would be best?
Oh, and tonight I will upload "'Devil with the blue dress" for you! (I've got it on a cd filled with favorites of The Cramps.)

Re: The Loneliest Man in the World by Vince Eager

OK C.W but you can thank me properly if/when it actually gets played. They have the 'Listen Again' facility on Rad 2 you know so you should get it. I think I stand a better chance of it getting played if I keep Morrissey out of it 'cos they love their sixties stuff and don't really acknowledge that anything else exists! I may be doubly clever and get the title of the song ever-so-slightly wrong so that the producer has the satisfaction of tracking down the correct one. [...recently someone asked for Elvis singing a song called 'Dixie', and Roger being the clever chap he is, told Brian that Elvis never recorded such a song but the correspondant probably meant 'American Trilogy'. ]

Re: The Loneliest Man in the World by Vince Eager

You mean like "The World's Loneliest Man" or something?
If you think that is the best, then please do.

You can find me lying on the floor the next couple of weeks waiting for them to spin this record...

Re: The World's Lonliest Man by Vince Eager

Done! Fingers crossed now! I don't suppose that they'll be able to schedule it for this coming Saturday, but keep checking

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/sounds60s/playlist.shtml thereafter.

BTW I was truly getting confused with the song title. I realise now it's "The World's Loneliest Man"

Have you seen the discography at www.vinceeager.co.uk

There's also a ref to the list you have at

http://motorcycleaupairboy.com/interviews/1992/slitz.htm

From that interview:

"When I meet Mozzer in Paris I’ve brought a three years old list from the New Musical Express with me. A list he called singles to be cremated with. On the top of the list is a single called "The loneliest man in the world." The artist’s name is Vince Eager.

"Vince Eager was an English singer have you heard of Vince Taylor?"
No.
"Billy Fury? Good. Mister Eager was made from the same mould as Billy Fury. He released eight singles on the record company Top Rank. But the other seven are, honestly, completely impossible to listen to. And yes, I know that your next question will be about the title 'The loneliest man in the world' well, that’s pretty Morrisseyesque. Could I have a look at that list?"
The list consists of exclusively obscure sixties singles: The Crystals’ "What a nice way to turn 17," The Toys’ "Attack," Timi Yuro's "Insult to injury," Paul Jones' "I’ve been a bad, bad boy" and Dionne Warwick’s "Loneliness remembers what happiness forgets." The last one is a song title that could be one of Morrissey’s own.

Hi, this wonderful offering is described as "expired" by yousendit; any chance of putting it up again, it would be very warmly appreciated.

Yes, and I can recall Morrissey refering to the song, saying that the rest of Vince Eager's output was not worth a listen -- but I forget where or when he said that.

BTW, I've posted the Devil song for you here:
