I visited the British Music Experience exhibition in London earlier this week and was pleasantly surprised to see The Smiths featured rather prominently.
There is a display showing the sleeves of all original 7" releases, with the exception of Hand In Glove strangely. I guess it can only be due to the nude male photograph, still strange in this day and age.
There is also a large projection screen showing one of The Smiths appearances in TOTP and a short video interview of a Smiths 'superfan'.
I have taken a few photos...

It's always nice to find The Smiths in an exhibition like that, when you don't expect it! It sounds quite fun.

It's surprising that no one picked it up till now, but thanks to Irregular Regular, now we're armed and dangerous in London...

It is strange that the Hand In Glove sleeve has been censored and is considered unacceptable.
Have you seen what videos are assessable to children on MTV during the day time? It's sof porn, yet the male bottom in an arty photograph is just too much for the (mainly adult) visitors of an music exhibition. We live in a strange world.

Thanks for the tip. I thought when this opened it had no Smiths or Morrissey references at all? Glad they seen the errors of their ways.

I agree very strongly, there's absolutely nothing sexual about the Hand In Glove sleeve. It did shock people in 1983, but it's 2010 and the mainstream music videos of today are an absolute disgrace and the younger generation will look at these vile RnB and Rap stars and thinks it's fine to be in the situations involving drugs and drink and to swear in every sentence they speak and there are no bands who are against this either, pity!

One of us should ask why they have censored the Hand in Glove Sleeve.

We cannot be certain that it was censored, they might give other reasons for its omission (eg. couldn't find the record sleeve, it was missed by mistake, etc).
Anyway, if you are determined to contact them the exhibition is at the O2 Arena.
Please keep in mind that taking photographs is not permitted and they might kick up a fuss if they find out that these have turned up in a public forum on the internet.
