The incident in which Morrissey and Boz berated a fan who took issue with Morrissey's birthday greeting to the ubiquitous Julia at the Corn Exchange gig has been reported at Contactmusic.com

MORRISSEY - MORRISSEY HALTS GIG TO REPRIMAND FAN

Article:

Rocker MORRISSEY halted a gig in Cambridge, England on Saturday night (16 May 09) to reprimand an unruly fan.

The concert-goer took exception to the singer's birthday wishes to his friend Julia, who was standing in the front row at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, and started hurling abuse at her and Morrissey.

It prompted the former The Smiths star to stop the gig and challenge the man.

The war of words continued until the singer's guitarist, Boz Boorer, stepped forward to swear at the fan and suggest he leave.

Morrissey then asked the crowd whether the disgruntled audience member should be ejected - and when they turned on the man, he left.

One concert-goer tells WENN, "I've been to loads of Morrissey gigs but I've never seen anything like this; the guy seemed to dislike the fact that this Julia woman, who Morrissey often mentions at concerts, had a lot of money. I've never seen Morrissey turn on a fan like this."

Stephen Wright sends:

Morrissey Birthday Photograph at Salford Lads’ Club.

Full press release (Word doc, 27K)

Excerpt:

Will this charming man show up?
If not, it’s a great opportunity for all budding Morrissey look-alikes to strike a pose have a bit of fun and raise the profile of the Salford Lads Club regarded as the mecca for Smiths fans from all over the world…

The idea is to create a giant Moz lookalike photo taken by Stephen Wright. It’s a special event to coincide with Morrissey’s 50th Birthday and his 2 concerts in Manchester.

We need great quiffs, cardigans, big girls blouses, in fact a whole range of Moz attire.

The big picture will take place at 2pm on Saturday 23trd May. Stephen will stay around until about 4pm to take photographs of any groups and individuals who may wish – just ask him!

...Also on show in the Billiard Room will be an exhibition of photographs by Claire Biddles - 'Nobody Loves Us' which explore the relationship between Smiths fans and Morrissey's lyrics. Fans are pictured with placards, quoting Morrissey's lyrics in varying locations, mirroring the way fans relate to their own experiences through the songs of The Smiths. Claire is in her final year at Glasgow school of art

Phil Gatenby and Craig Gill will be taking a doubledecker bus tour of all the Morrissey sights and the bus will call at the club from 1.15 till 2.15 when the big picture is taken.

Stephen Wright is also shooting another special birthday earlier in the day when Salford Lads Club set off on their annual camp holiday. It is 105 years since club members set off for the first camp in 1904. The group set off at 12.30 from outside the club.

So please send in any Moz related tracks you want to hear, from Smith’s classics to rare b-sides and oddities to [email protected] and I will do my best to make Mancunian magic happen...

A little book will be published at Morrissey's birthday party in Helsinki, May 22 (see Forums: http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/showthread.php?t=99623).

The booklet, titled "On Consolation", contains an essay on Morrissey, both in original Finnish and in English translation.

The text was written as an address celebrating the event, and will be read at the party.

Only 200 copies have been printed, each numbered.

In Finland, the author (that is, me) is well known for his obsession for Morrissey and his irritating desire to write about him whenever possible.

Anyone willing to have his or her own copy, should contact me: antti.nylen(at)gmail.com. The price is 7 euros, including postage worldwide (excepting Finland, where it is only 6 euros).

Since last years birthday party went down so well (as the other eleven before them has) we decided to have a go at it this year again. Since we are celebrating the 50th birthday we are in for an extra treat: Magnus Carlson and Ola Nyström from Weeping Willows will serve us with a career spanning selection of songs. In addition there will of course be opportunities aplenty for gentle sing-a-long to every Morrissey song worth mentioning: from "Hand in Glove" via "Now My Heart Is Full" to "Mama Lay Softly on the Riverbed" and "It’s Not Your Birthday Any More" none the less.

The party will be held two days earlier this year, on the 20th. This is due to the arrangers falling victims to this most irresistible urge to go to Manchester (the Apollo to be exact) on this day of birthing festivities.

Date: Wednesday the 20th of May
Place: Sodra bar, Mosebacke
Time: 19:00-01:00
Since we have live music this time there will be 50 SEK entrance fee
