If Morrissey's 'exhibitionism' is no big deal why write an essay on it. Says nothing new, uses the most obvious and reductive examples. Perhaps if the subject had been approached with a modicum of humour Simpson might have pulled something interesting out of the hat. Instead we are subjected to inaccuracies ("His first single featured a close-up of naked male gay porn star’s bubble-butt.") and unintentionally humourous, ahem, passages ("On-stage he pole-dances around his songs often ending on his back with his legs in the air, obligingly lifted towards the auditorium, while yodelling.")

A disappointment.

Mark Simpson seems to be of the opinion that if he writes about Morrissey over and over again he'll achieve some kind of uber-fan status, but his missives are often so witheringly ill-thought-through as to be downright cringeworthy.

Morrissey's supposed perpetual exhibitionism is hardly new(Jagger, Iggy, Sting anyone?) yet once again we are expected to swallow that this is concrete evidence of Morrissey's homosexuality. Yawn!

According to the article, Middle America was shocked by a shot of Moz's backside. Really? Hadn't most people who bought the offending article already made up their minds about certain aspects of Morrissey's lifestyle?
If you ask me, the only person offended in any way is Simpson himself who can't seem to accept that Morrissey has never said outright whether he is gay, straight or bi-sexual. Simpson is in grave danger of becoming Matt Lucas' Only Gay In The Village by banging on about the homosexual undertones of Morrissey's art and music, then assuming that his fan base is shocked en masse when he does something overtly homoerotic.

Do us a favour and go write about someone else....George Michael, maybe?
