  • there has to be hours more of this kind of footage out there somewhere. this is what a bonus disc should consist of.

I'm almost sure you can do better than that.

  • How come this wasn't used on ROTT? Amazingly bad decision, I think. I always thought there was so little Morricone on the song...just that swoony bit at the end, most of it was keyboards and guitars....oh well

  • ennio morricone is phenomenal. i first heard of him when i saw cinema paradiso (my favorite film) years ago. the soundtrack to that film is absolutely beautiful, it evokes so much feeling in me when i listen to it.

  • You are the worst producer in the history of music. How could you cover THAT up with layers & layers of crap instumentation? Listening to the 'finished' song is like trying to pull a Mozart record out of a peat bog.
I'm a fan of Morrissey's band but they should've all stayed in bed for that song.

  • This Morricone score is pure kitsch, especially the annoying staccato violins. Visconti did the right thing by omitting them alltogether. The Visconti version works towards a climax. The Morricone version completely ignores the development of the song.

My guess is that Morricone didn't like the song to begin with.

  • Pompous Bombast in action. What a load of manure that song is.

It was ridiculous when David St. Hubbins in Spinal Tap said he wanted to record his music with the Royal Philharmonic yet here is Morrissey actually doing pretty much the same thing. It's completely laughable.

What a Joke ROTT was. It gets more pathetic as time goes by.

(Thank God Visconti hit the road. Hopefully Jesse will be next and things can finally get back on track).

  • Ostentatious.

    Superfluous.

What it made up for in pretense, it lacked in subtlety.

  • to my ears, there are a few problems in the morricone charts, but on the whole, they are very interesting and i would have like to have heard more of them used in the final version.

  • I wanna be in there. It's an amazing insight. The engrossed faces of the band are shown from 7 minutes but Morrissey's mug at 7.17-18 seconds isn't giving anything away except coolness.

Elvis Costello made a classic collection of Burt Bacharach songs, called 'Painted from Memory', one of which is entitled 'God Give me Strength' that has a similar spirit to this one. I feel that Morrissey would allow himself to be more experimental with a cover album. With his variety of influences, it would be quite unpredictable, something to which I definitely think our hearts would be open.

    I missed Morricone's gig in Belfast a few days ago; g'dam! Thanks for the level-raiser. : )
