I received the following email from a contact at Noble PR this morning.

So sorry for the short notice on this but I've just been told, by Warner Music, that The Morrissey 'Live At The Hollywood Bowl' DVD has been postponed pending a new release date.

Will let you have more info when I get it.

I've been covering this news announcement for Morrissey's "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" DVD on my website and I got a message from Noble PR that "The Morrissey 'Live At The Hollywood Bowl' DVD has been postponed pending a new release date".

This doesn't surprise me as Morrissey, himself, had a problem with this release, stating the DVD release is a breach of contract "as laid out by themselves in an agreement made for the film between Warner and my ex-manager."

  • if morrissey has succeeded in legally stopping the dvd, no doubt he will be saying so on True-To-You in the near future. But imo its more likely that the DVD has been deliberately put back in order to come out around the date of Years of Refusal to try to cash in on interest in that.

  • 'Pending a release date' roughly translates as 'canned'... at least for now.
It's doubtful that Warners would have postponed the release to 'piggyback' YoR because it's an almost-fact that they're going to generate more sales this side of the holiday season..
Very likely is that Morrissey's lawyers have stormed the Warners headquarters Simpsons-style and put an end to this.
If the DVD is released with Morrissey's backing and new cover art, are we going to all call him a hypocrite?

  • guess it was too much to hope for to have Moz release this soon.
I really hope this isn't somehow connected to Moz trying to stop the DVD from coming out ... imagine how shit it would be if he succeeded permanently, we'd all know there is a perfectly good dvd just sitting there and we cant see it. But like the above said, they may also be waiting to release it closer to YOR to try and cash in .. Warners would have to do less marketing that way if here is a new album being hyped by someone else and Morrissey's name is already out there.

  • the only people buying him are his old fans. he isnt getting that many new fans at the moment. One of the big reasons for YATQ success was the big hype surrounding the album and the fact that Morrissey hadnt had an album in 7 years. I love Morrissey but people on here overestimate his popularity.

  • Moz, i spent about $1000 on you last year, about $200 of which went to Hollywood Bowl tickets.

i'd really love to see this DVD, but i know you aren't getting paid (or you already spent the money) so if you want, i'll send you a check...i just need your address

as much as i hate to go against your wishes, i'm gonna have to buy this thing. besides, i bet you have a few Bowie or NY Dolls bootlegs yourself ;)

I know he is all about taking all of our money and I know he is all about bending people over but could he at least seperate the two and not bend us over?
FU Moz, see you next time in conert.

  • Has anyone else got a scanner so to post the brilliant interview Morrissey gives this week in the Big Issue?

It's full of very old-school Morrissey quotes and he is the cover star. Maybe it's just the Big Issue In The North, as I live in Liverpool, but it's the best interview in years and needs to be transcribed here.

I would do - but left my copy in the pub last night.

It's not available on their website, which is perhaps fair enough seeing as it would pretty much counter-act the whole operation, but someone should have a copy.
