Say Prayers for Jerry Finn [message #363478], post by Ross Hogworth - prosoundweb.com forums
Sat, 09 August 2008 21:25

I am devastated to post this email from today .....

with a heavy heart and no breath in my chest i want to let you know that we and the doctors have done everything possible for jerry. even though he did make snail like improvement these past 31 days he is not any better for words and has not had any consistency in the tests that the medical team have done for him. at his time the hemorrhage has done massive damage to his body which will leave him severely disabled and in need of acute care for the rest of his life. we know jerry wouldn't want to live like this in a vegetative state. the family has made the decision to speak jerrys wishes and with draw life support. i am truly devastated don't know what else to say. thank you all for your support through this terrible time. please keep jerry in your prayers! mike

which says he is on life support. there is no mention of his death.

      "Saturday update ....

hey everyone! heres an update going into week 2. we have been watching jerry like a hawk and have seen snail like improvement! (maybe even slug like which ever is slower) but improvement non the less!!!!!!!! oh yeah and so has his doctor. Some of the things we have seen jerry do is having a twitchy foot which excites us but the dr. is more satisfied that jerry is wiggling his toes, and following commands with his eyes. the doctor plans to give him medication to "wake" him up a little more and expects improvement over the next week! today the staff are working jerrys lungs out by letting him breath on his own! unassisted!!!!!!! the nurses said that he is taking nice deep breaths on his own and is doing really well! the family thanks you for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers! mike"

  • The delaying in releasing this record, for whatever reason, seem totally without consequence when you consider what Jerry's family must be going through now.

This is horrible news and I hope the family can take solace in what the man achieved in his lifetime. I hope the Morrissey record when it is finallly released is good enough to be classed as one if not the definitive album he was involved in. It would seem to be fitting that the last record he was involved in should be a gem.

    Rest in peace.

regardless, i feel for whoever has to make the decision about life support

Sorry, this is not the time nor the place to get vainly philosophical, but I don't know what else to say except I hope he will be in a better place, in a more perfect body.

  • Don't take this the wrong way but if Moz would have stuck to his Sept. '08 issue date for his new cd he probably would have gotten some award nominations due to this developing news- "his last album with J.F. and all". With it being issue in Jan. '09 the entire album will be forgoten by the time award nominations come out the following year. This is yet another missed chance for Morrissey even though awards have never been something he was very interested in.

  • Taken from Billboard.com today

Blink-182 and Morrissey producer Jerry Finn has been taken off life support after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage last month. According to a post on the Prosoundweb forum reprinted on Morrissey-Solo.com, Finn's family made the decision on Saturday.

"Even though he did make snail-like improvement these past 31 days, he is not any better for words and has not had any consistency in the tests that the medical team have done for him," a close Finn friend wrote on the forum. "At this time the hemorrhage has done massive damage to his body which will leave him severely disabled and in need of acute care for the rest of his life. We know Jerry wouldn't want to live like this in a vegetative state."

Finn, 38, got his start as an engineer in the early 1990s before shifting into production on such albums as Rancid's "...And Out Come the Wolves." Among his best-known production credits are Blink-182's "Enema of the State" and Morissey's "You Are the Quarry." Finn has also worked with Green Day, Bad Religion, Sparta, AFI and the Offspring, among many others.

Finn had also lent production to Morrissey's upcoming "Years of Refusal," which has been bumped from a fall release to Feb. 2, 2009, according to Truetoyou.net.
