The Edge 103.9 FM held the contest before the show in Sun City West near Phoenix on June 2 in partnership with Nederlander who is promoting this tour. At least 20 fans participated in the contest. We were told that we were playing for 2 posters autographed by MORRISSEY. After the drawing was held (the contest consisted of a round MOZ trivia questions followed by names being placed in a hat), the winners (I was one of them) were informed that MORRISSEY had not yet signed the posters but that he would and that the posters would be mailed to us. The kind DJs-Interns from Edge 103.9 FM gave us the card of the Director of Marketing for Nederlander in Arizona, Cathy Stell, and advised us to call her. I followed up in two phone calls with Ms. Stell who was very kind and she informed me that MORRISSEY refused to sign the posters in question because he was afraid that someone would think those “dirty fingers” might be his - and furthermore that MORRISSEY has continued to refuse to sign anything for the contest winners such as the lobby posters (cover of "I Just Want To See The Boy Happy"), a CD, etc., despite MORRISSEY having given his approval to the “dirty fingers” poster (at least on paper) and being contractually obligated to sign promotional items for this contest. I understand why MORRISSEY would be reluctant to sign the “dirty fingers” poster...but to sign NOTHING seems cruel. I'm really starting to wonder if MORRISSEY respects his audience...and I can’t help thinking he goes about things the wrong way...

  • I used to work in radio and we never gave something away that we didn't actually have in our hands. Artists and record labels are unreliable. It was irresponsible of the station to launch a promotion based on something they didn't have.

  • the radio station probably tried to do something without morrissey's approval. he wanted to show them it's their fault for not getting to him sooner. of course the fans get indirectly targeted. in morrissey's mind, he thinks the fans will overwhelmingly blame the radio station. but that's not the case.

Is morrissey out of touch with reality? yes. is that why his music touches me deeply? yes. all the morrissey bashers used to realize this. they got old and lost their blind love, blind devotion. these bashers see things in economic terms. their hearts got old.

Let Morrissey be Morrissey. Some of us know who he is, and always had and always will.

These days I am delighted to report that Swallowneck assures any new"comers" that their shared secret will be safe with him and their mothers need never know!

And then he wouldnt even just sign a cd on top of that. Thats just ridiculous. I mean one thing you love about him is his quirkyness, but sometimes its just too much. I can understand being an ass to industry, label types, but when its just a damn signiture that'll mean the world to a few fans, just sign it!

  • Big f-ing deal. Again -- a radio contest? What are you, in high school? I think its pretty unprofessional for a radio station to hold a contest for things which THEY DO NOT HAVE. Instead of blaming a 'contractually obligated' Morrissey, why not save some venom for the irresponsible radio station?
And not completely unrelated, it's nice to see a bit of homophobia expressed in the replies here "Queen!" "Diva!" and worse. Yeah, yeah, yeah...Morrissey's 'not necessarily gay,' for those who are made uncomfortable by the thought of it. Incredible that there are people who think nothing to say ' i love [or used to love] morrissey' but man, don't bash Bush [or bush, for that matter] or AMERIKER, or Football! I want my hamburger, man, and morrissey is a big ol' queen'
Well, as the song says, you know where you can shove your hamburgers.
