I can't help wondering if he plays any Morrissey?

Don't hang the DJ, it's Andy Rourke

Excerpt:

So Andy, how do you feel about playing Smiths records at your new nights? Surely the requests come thick and fast, even for classic track Panic, where Morrissey urges us to "Hang the DJ."

"I'm quite happy to play a couple," he says. "Though I normally duck behind the DJ booth when I do because people tend to start looking over.

"The thing is, unlike a lot of music of the era, Smiths music still sounds really fresh and exciting, which means it's still good to play out."

  • Tom Dunn played it minutes ago on the radio here. Where the Smiths are, Morrissey circles like an orbital sun: the big bang that foregrounds the rest!!

  • A night out with Bez and Mani.
    Imagine the carnage.

Apparently Mr Rourke is DJing in Temple Bar, Dublin on Friday. There's more info on the discussion board.

  • I saw Mr. Rourke recently at a small tavern here in Tallahassee, FL, USA. He didn't play any Morrissey tunes, although he did play "Stop me if you think you've heard this one before," "There is a light that never goes out," and he borrowed my "This Charming Man Remixes" disc that I asked him to sign and spun the NY mix.

He also played lots of Pixies, Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit," the killers, strokes, rolling stones, etc. Pretty popular, well-known stuff (along with a few obscure tracks). Very nice, mellow guy. Glad he came.
