  • I think he did very well - and I was proud of him. He always seems nervous by his many hand gestures and mannerisms though.

  • . . . one doesn't feel merely like an accidental, wholly aimless appendage (a suspicion especially prevalent on Mondays . . . or so it always seems).

It seems superfluous to say so - but of course He more than deserved it, and I now have a curious glow of pride in my rusty tin chest. And more of a fascination than ever with the graceful motions of His eyebrows.

  • Very nice acceptance speech.

I had no idea he was pen pals with Linda McCartney. Perhaps they exchanged recipe ideas. I get the impression ol Moz knows a variety of ways to make toast. Toast and jam, toast and beans, Welsh rarebit, etc.

He looked great as usual. Ciao to you too, my Toastmaster General.

  • I hope he hasn't been listening to the silly media too much, he looks like he's lost a lot of weight.

Very nice speech though. I don't think anybody ever really expected him to be there in person to accept it, if i were him i'd have arranged my new album to coincide with the awards ceremony (it's all a bit cheesy really isn't it, even though i 100% support the cause). I doubt he'd bother to think it through that much though.

    Ahh what a nice surprise.

I had to download macromedia flash to see it. http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/trigg erpages_mmcom/flash.html
Needed to wait for it to download for five minutes or so (was just a blank screen 'til then), then hovered over the pause button, found it let me play it, et voila.

"well, hello to everybody, i'm sorry i'm not there i'm in Rome, *smiles* making a new album, *cup-like gestures* but very very pleased to have this award, the Linda McCartney award

*looks up* Linda and i were great friends, well pen pals really *pen gesture downwards* for three years, and i never actually met her, but she was a, wonderful person, so i'm very very honored to have the award *hand thrust downwards* and i'd like to say hello to, Dan Matthews, *wave thrust outwards* to hello to Ingrid, uh two of my heroes

and um, it's a great honor, *wave thrust outwards* PETA is changing the world, 25 years old, onward onward, it's all fantastic, and i'm so proud to have the award, *left side wave* so have a good time, thank you, *right side wave* *mwuah* ciao

it was great to see him sunny and joyful, i can only hope he's this content if i ever meet him in person

the gesturing may come from hanging out Italians there who gesture when they talk, it can be contagious ;-) see the Russell Peters comedy video to see what i mean, it's google-able and he's a comedian of Indian descent, hilarious

  • I wish he would move his hands generally
less or more subtle also in concerts/videos.

Like in 'I have forgiven Jesus' he looks
like he's doing security check for himself,
and grabbing his groins guite boldly during
    the procedure.

    These harsh movements portraits him
as not so gentle, subtle, intelligent,
deep souled, symphatetic person i we all know
he is. Harsher side of him i guess,
sharp tongued bashing devil as he sometimes
    may be.

  • Morrissey throwing kisses!and saying tchau left me happily, happily dumbfounded. The boy's torn on the side is very unexpectadely opening itself into a rose button. What a difference a warmer civilization makes to a soul raised in a humdrum town! So the thing on the miraculous healing power of Italie is true, then. If there's a chance for another stay in Brazil, his current half-squeezed smile can actually open all the way!

The hand gestures can be very English though. I heard the English talk a lot with their hands, and Morrissey never was actually too stiff. Something is alway moving in him, even if it's his tongue.

Sorry, I know these are petty details compared to his great achievement with PETA, but I really couldn't help noticing the radical difference in his body language, and in his demeanor in general. This guy came out of the dumps!

I believe the next video I'll see of him is him jogging at Ipanema beach and saying tchau, which is good-buy also in Portuguese. (I'm trying sometimes to persuade him to go to Rio so I can see him and say: Oi! Benvindo à alegria!).

  • Any post on this topic that is anything other than congratulatory to Morrissey reveals the lack of depth in his new fan base, which is sad and unfortunate. However, I guess that is to be expected given the 25 and under crowd didn't have a chance for a comprehensive musical taste given what they were raised in.

Morrissey has spoken, gestured, and acted like that in virtually every taped or live interview he has ever given. He completely admits his discomfort while participating in things like this...that proves he really is in it for the music and the records and the live performance. There's an embarassment he feels about a spotlight being on him when he's not performing on stage...with celebrities, that is a rare, rare thing. Contrast this with Sean Penn who SEEKS out a camera for self-promotion.

Congratulate him. Notice his delivery style. Admire him. Don't criticize him. And finally, move on...
