  • how often do they do this? seems like publications should tackle this subject once a decade rather than every other month. it cheapens the results each time they do this.
polls are lame and this is why.

  • because I want to see Moz and The Smiths high up in these sorts of polls, to bring the man to a wider audience, and generally because communicating your musical tastes becomes something of a religious calling.
However, these polls only reflect on the readership of the magazine and the tastes of those of us on websites such as this. For example, I don't deny the brilliance of Elvis, Dylan or The Beatles, but I wouldn't vote for them as non of their albums feature in a list of my favourite's.
You tell me, should I have voted for Revolver or The White Album (neither of which I own) or perhaps Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon', or Dylan's 'Blood on the Tracks', simply because received wisdom dictates that they are the most groundbreaking albums, and they regularly top the polls?
Do people vote on this basis?
I mean, before becoming a Smiths fan, I thought that their one and only album was 'The Queen is Dead', as that's the only one I saw in magazine polls.
Personally, I put TQID at number two, I voted 'Strangeways Here We Come' as the best album, simply because it's my favourite.
The other three votes went to different artists, as I don't believe Moz has ever made a perfect solo album. 'Vauxhall And I' came close, but in the end, it was up against the likes of Jeff Buckley ... Sorry Moz.

  • The Smiths wouldn't be where they are now without The Queen Is Dead always scoring high in polls like these. On the downside, younger people tend to think that TQID is all The Smiths ever did, which is a shame as the other 3 records are nearly as flawless.
Still, I vote for it again.
    My other choices:
    Vauxhall and I
    Ocean Rain
    Born Sandy Devotional
    Velvet Underground and Nico

  • What is this obsession this tiresome magazine has in rehashing all these different polls and then getting a few celebrities in to give their personal choices? How many 'best ever' polls can one have for chrissakes?
