Johnny Depp is to present a documentary about James Dean on 27 September on BBC Radio 2. It features a contribution from his one-time neighbour:

"The documentary will mark the 50th anniversary of Dean's death and the BBC said Depp would "highlight the artistic passion that drove this country boy from rural Indiana to become a 20th Century icon. It will include interviews with Morrissey, David Puttnam, Dennis Hopper, Bill Wyman and Sir Paul McCartney."

S J BANKS also sends the excerpt:
From an article in The Independent - "Radio 2 signs up Johnny Depp for tribute to Dean":

"....Dean counted many pop musicians among his fans, including Presley, Bob Dylan and John Lennon, who once said: "Without James Dean, the Beatles would never have existed." Depp will interview Dean enthusiasts, including Morrissey, Sir Paul McCartney, David Bailey and Dennis Hopper...."

  • Well, I think it's fair to say, Morrissey would throw a wobbler if he didn't get a say in his hero's life. And we wouldn't want that, because it would affect the album.

  • I can totally (excuse the 80's expression) imagine James blasting Morrissey as he looks over a new prospective script, taking breaks to bang on his bongo for inspiration of the character's motivation in a particular scene. What do u think would be his fav???? Hairdresser on Fire is in my mind.
Such a shame he didn't have a Morrissey in his time because really Elvis, Lennon or even Dylan can not hold a candle to OUR Morrissey. Hey every generation has their own true love that they hold close to their hearts and Morrissey is soulfully mine.
I'm enthralled about Johnny doing the interview...sigh....

Thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart if you can tell me. I love both Depp and Morrissey.

Some of us might 'give a shit' what Moz thinks, in the same way people have always cared about their idol's opinions. Why do you think he inspired so many with his passionate views? Because he's one of the more intelligent and unique individuals this world has to offer.
Despite that, we fans do retain some kind of balance. Being interested doesn't mean that we copy him, or agree with his every word; we're just interested in what he's got to say.
Now go and wash your mouth out.

  • Hey 'anonoymous/all of you', you sound so so sexy the way you spit out all of these angry words, and leave them for everyone to read on this website. Could you please leave your real name next time you write in? Maybe we can knock heads together, come up with some new 'vial words' to put on this website together? Would it be too much to ask if I bring my whole Morrissey and Smiths cd collection with me? We will need some good backround music when it comes to shutting the lights off at the end of the night, if you know what I mean? Or, maybe we could go out and get matching Moz tattoos? My darling, I will relieve all of your tension in your body and mind. That way, you will think twice before you ever want to write into Morrissey Solo again! Such a little thing.... • You are so very pathetic that all you have to do is attempt to make people as miserable as you. You probably don't even care about music either. Just hiding behind anonymous to see your spuge on this site. Why not find a better place to wallow in your self loathing? Like the local dump. Better yet why not just excuse your self from the human race. You obviously were deprived of a few of the basic essentials for normalcy. Like love, friendship and a hero or two. I'm glad Moz and the rest of us had James Dean at least for a while. It is people like you that we could do with out.

With a couple of exceptions, Morrissey's tastes have always been slightly dubious.
