  • Alexei Sayle is a twat who was last funny in 1984. And even then he was grating.
Morrissey was pivotal in the "unimportant" people's backlash of the Thatcher period. He made us Northerners feel like we had a voice (which was the antithesis of everything the evil hellhound stood for).

  • Some pleasing comments from some people who 'get it' at least, i.e. The Smiths and why they are simply the best, most stunningly creative creators of music ever imaginable. Within The Smiths you have a truly phenomenal pair in the shape of Morrissey and Johnny Marr.THE two greatest song composers of ANY generation. The people who claim The Smiths to be miserable or dour are simply expressing their opinion. Not necessarily the wrong opinion, but certainly not the right one either. When I listen to The Smiths I hear joyously uplifting, at times downright FUNNY lyrics coupled with music that makes me cry. Just my opinion....which I think is the correct one.

  • Forget the critics, the reviews, the re-views, the hype......

Just listen to the Smiths instead of pouring over what other people think. The subjective opinion is meaningless to others.

Enjoy the band for what you perceive them to be to you, not what others preach. To me they saved my life.

Thats my rant over with (for tonight)

“Does the mind rule the body or the body rule the mind? I don't know," is what Stephen Patrick Morrissey sang.

Well not exactly, try singing that line.

And to be even more pedantic, “I dunno” is correct (and funnier)

(I wouldn’t normally bother pointing this out, but it is Will Self)

  • Will Self?, that annoying twat that's on Grumpy Old Men?. I once read an artical in The Big Issue and he was slagging Morrissey off. So much for respect !! , Self get a life and a MIND OF YOUR OWN !! WANKER !!.

  • I may ask Tony Wilson about this on Sunday, to get his views - not wanting to rub it in at all you understand but there's some unfinished business...

To the poster who questioned Will Self - he could have been having a laugh when you quoted him as being rather negative. Mr Self has been very positive on Morrissey's latest work and also he's been widely published and interviewed so you must have heard/read wrong.

  • I'm associating this comment with the story by recollecting Bono's assertion that the Smiths collectively have more Irish ancestry than U2 combined. I don't know if that influence will be debated by the ivory tower heads, but check out this quote from the site today: (which are an added bonus to visiting here, thanks)

"The six great gifts of an Irish girl are beauty, soft voice, sweet speech, wisdom, needlework, and chastity
    ". -- Theodore Roosevelt, 1907
