  • Well, I certainly hope that "How Soon is Now" doesn't make it. As great as that song is, that guitar sure gets annoying after the millionth listen.

    Well I Wonder
    Girl Afraid

    Unloveable
    My Love Life
    The Ordinary Boys
    What Difference Does it Make?

    Paint a Vulgar Picture
    Tomorrow
The Edges are No Longer Parallel
    Sister I'm a Poet
    Suedehead

  • Do they mean they'll have two separate lists (one for The Smiths and one for Moz). The sentence

    "please submit your lists"

could mean "your (one person's) two lists"

or "your (the collective) lists (one each)"

And we'll only have heard a few tracks off the new album by the deadline (the ones played on the last tour). ... So, YATQ is not a contender?

The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
    The Headmaster Ritual

    BACK TO THE OLD HOUSE
    WELL I WONDER
    BREAK UP THE FAMILY
    I KNOW IT’S OVER
I KNOW IT’S GONNA HAPPEN SOMEDAY
THE EDGES ARE NO LONGER PARALLEL

    JACK THE RIPPER
    SING YOUR LIFE

WHY DON’T YOU FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF
    I CAN HAVE BOTH
    NOW MY HEART IS FULL

  • I'm sure I'm not the only one tired to death of journalists tripping over themselves in a desperate attempt to appear credible by name-dropping Morrissey at every opportunity, having ignoring him for the best part of 12 years. At least this poll will uncover the songs fans worldwide love, and not the songs journalists think they should love most.

I don't post very often, but I'm very excited about the new album. I just want to thank david T for keeping this site going through the past seven years. Had it not been for Morrissey-solo.com I wouldn't have been able to see Morrissey at the Royal Albert Hall or the MEN, which, I hope, will be just as wonderful. I'll be sticking with morrissey-solo than the rather desperate official morrissey site that begs us to email radio 1 journalists to get morrissey's single on the A-list! I think it might be time for Morrissey to release a sequel to "paint a vulgar picture" only perhaps called "actually, that picture isn't so vulgar after all, and anyway at least I'm not Elton John - have you seen *those* shoes?!"

No, seriously, it's good to see Morrissey finally getting some much-deserved publicity! First of the gang to die will be in my top 20 close to the top when it's finally unleashed on the charts!

    My top 20:

    1 I Know It's Over
(for old times' sake - remember all those nights!)
    2 Everyday Is Like Sunday
    3 Paint a Vulgar Picture
    4 Lost
    5 I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday
    6 TLOTFI Playboys
7 The Boy With The Thorn in his Side
    8 Seasick, Yet Still Docked
    9 Alma Matters
    10 I've Changed my Plea
11 What She Said (if only for the lyric about a tattooed boy from Birkenhead)
    12 Reel Around the Fountain
13 Now My Heart is Full
    14 Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning
15 There is a light that never goes out

  • Although a rare recording, Jeane is probably one of the Smiths' best. Please look for it at Kazaa. The opening lines are just moving:

    Jeane,
the lowlife has lost its appeal
and I'm tired of walking these streets
to a room with its cupboards bare.

  • in no particular order AND i reserve the right to change my mind in three seconds...

there is a light (oh yes there is.)
    i know it's over
    jack the ripper
i've changed my plea to guilty
    suffer little children
    now my heart is full
    last night i dreamt
    i won't share you
    reel around the fountain
the boy with a thorn in his side
    nobody loves us
    jeane
    late night maudlin street
    i know it's gonna happen
    what difference does it make
    ouija board ouija board
    bigmouth strikes again
    piccadilly palare
    the girl least likely to
    jack the ripper

so now you know. anyone else noticed how much mozzer looks like kermit the frog nowadays? with a quiff obviously....

  • I've been on hiatus and I have come to seek the advice/steal a look from my breathen.I see I am not the only one struggling. Yes, separate Morrissey tunes from those of Smiths conundrum.
And they don't even write when the deadline is??????
My technique was to go to the Lasik index of songs (www.oz.net/~moz/lyrics/azindex.htm)
and add stars and try not to be biased with my own negative associations...Think of the craft.I love That's entertainment but that's a Jam song.Ditto with Moonriver... I am sure the hits shall prevail- if we are predicting outcomes.
I suppose Morrissey songs shall be eclipsed.

I shall put the 3/4 stars on top.I hope I can afford the magazine onslaught May mayhem. The vintage posters in NME which weren't readily available in the bookshops, i am devoted to Q.
    Enough blather

1 There's a light that never goes out
    2 What she said
    3 Still Ill
4 Oscillate Wildly (if a non-instrumental doesn't get on the definite list, this is an affront to Marr)
5 Bigmouth strikes again - a collective effort
6 Reel around the Fountain - the literary references
    7 Rusholme Ruffians
8 Alsatian Cousin (I overlook my prejudice of Alsatians)
9 Everyday is like a Sunday (i love the greased tea line)
    10 Miserable Lie
    11 Jack the Ripper - i think a cover
12 Paint a vulgar picture- is one of my favourites but I admit it's not a well-crafted song.Dorian bias.
13 Hand in Glove- i am sure a top ten-ner
14 Queen is dead - on the longish side but well-crafted
    15 Nowhere Fast
    16 Asleep
    17 The Loop - oft-overlooked
    18 You've got everything now
19 Whatever happens, I love you
20 Last of the international playboys - cinematic

Honourable mentions (because i can't fit any more):
Spring-heeled Jim - takes awhile- i like the cinematic/Coronation distortion
Heaven knows I'm miserable now- the caligula line
Stop me if you heard this before- just for made a shy Buddhist monk planning genocide. ok, it's not a great song.

  • why don't they want 2 separate lists, a top 10 for each?...why should i have to combine the two...don't you think Moz would want it that way? (i guess he probably doesn't care, eh..)
