bagface February 15, 2009, 02:18 PM wow thank you so much. i posted a thread a long time ago asking if anybody had any k records or twee stuff and nobody responded. this will certainly do. thanks.
i just found operation heavenly on vinyl for 8 bucks the other day, thought that was pretty cool
Superhans February 15, 2009, 02:24 PM I think Heavenly make absolutely gorgeous music, so I'm going to check out some of the other bands I've not heard in that list.
gothicarchie February 15, 2009, 06:21 PM Thanks! I love Los Campesinos!'s version of C Is The Heavenly Option. I'm not sure of the punctuation there.
Superhans February 15, 2009, 06:47 PM Thanks! I love Los Campesinos!'s version of C Is The Heavenly Option. I'm not sure of the punctuation there.
I'm going to try an find out whether your punctuation is correct or not, and if it isn't....well there will be heck to pay!
Absurd February 15, 2009, 07:05 PM Made me think of this. (http://www.myspace.com/tweeasfucknight) You may or may not be interested.
vivabob February 15, 2009, 07:20 PM thanks T , as you know i love twee
i can think of a good few bands to add :thumb:
Hidden By Rags February 15, 2009, 11:14 PM Thanks, terence. Just a drop in the bucket, hopefully it will inspire more people to search out more "twee" music.
Thanks for the link, Absurd. The fanzine is available in pdf form?! And crosswords puzzles! I'm going to enjoy this! I didn't think there were any out there anymore, cover to cover, except for the stray online zine or re-issue. :thumb:
Hidden By Rags February 16, 2009, 12:00 AM The Pitchfork article (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/10242-twee-as-fuck) terence was referring to, for the uninitiated. Hey, there's been over 180 views on this thread, so maybe more people will be a little more curious. Or maybe this thread has run its course!
oye terence February 16, 2009, 12:19 AM thanks hidden , i meant to post a link then forgot.or became lazy.either one.
i grew up going to see velocity girl and small factory all the time, so twee will always be special to me.
oscillate wildly February 16, 2009, 12:24 AM thank you, good sir.
Kewpie February 16, 2009, 12:25 AM Unfortunately I can't post a download link, but here's my twee compilation:
Razorcuts - Big Pink Cake
The Flatmates - Heaven Knows
The Groovy Little Numbers - You Make My Head Explode
Field Mice - Sensitive
Jesse Garon and the Desparadoes - Splushing Along
14 Iced Bears - The Balloon Song
Bodines - Heard It All Now
Baby Lemonade - Secret Goldfish
Weekend - Past Meets Present
Louis Philippe - Touch of Evil
klivert70 February 16, 2009, 11:20 AM Two of my favourites from the ever wonderful Sarah Records, one very Twee, the other not so.
The Field Mice - Sensitive E.P - http://www.mediafire.com/?irmjnxjx2vq
Eternal - Breathe E.P - http://www.mediafire.com/?mxbnb0te9lh
Amazing stuff especially Eternal which is as far from the Sarah Records 'sound' as it's possible to get. :guitar:
oye terence February 16, 2009, 03:17 PM thank you sir ^^^
if anyone likes another sunny day or the field mice, then i highly suggest listening to the pains of being pure at heart.

damien February 16, 2009, 06:06 PM A few years ago I got a Pitchfork inspired twee mix on Oink but it had more tracks:
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/145528/twee.png
If anybody wants the others I can upload my mix too.
Mars_Rover February 16, 2009, 06:38 PM Love this thread title!
Potentially stupid questions:
I know Altered Images were pre-twee, but could they still be considered under that umbrella?
Why no Prefab Sprout or Belle & Sebastian - too obvious?

Altered Images and Prefab Sprout aren't considered as twee, they hadn't signed to indie labels.
Original twee is Postcard, Cherry Red, Subway, Summerhouse, el, Sarah Records, 53rd & 3rd and other small indie labels.
Belle and Sebastian is second generation of twee.
damien February 16, 2009, 07:13 PM Talking of twee actually, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart borrow from a lot of original indie-pop bands. I can't wait to see them at some point!
http://www.myspace.com/thepainsofbeingpureatheart
Carnation February 16, 2009, 07:32 PM Nice thread. I cannot stop listenning to Sarah Records single compilation.
I'm obsessed :D

Carnation February 16, 2009, 08:26 PM Yes, i bought "there and back again lane" & "Fountain Island" "many years ago.
They are great. I found the "Shadow Factory" vinyl Lp in Paris for 3 euros a few days ago :)
Twee.net is a good site: http://www.twee.net/
Nice blog: http://fansofsarahrecordsandcreation.blogspot.com/
Hidden By Rags February 16, 2009, 09:34 PM Back to articles on twee, if anyone wants to read more about the genre, I have a pdf file of an essay someone from the Univ of Lund wrote that I saved from '05 when it was first put on the internet. I tried to search it, but it's no longer available. It's lengthy at 28 pages, but I thought it was well written.
sendspace (http://www.sendspace.com/file/wt7jsn)
Long live this thread. :)
++++++ February 16, 2009, 10:47 PM I've only heard of The Pastels from this list, but I like them a lot so I'm sure I'll enjoy digesting all of this. Thanks!
Sherry February 17, 2009, 04:24 AM http://rapidshare.com/files/199048687/Essential_Logic_-_Wonderful_Offer.mp3.html
Not really considered a Twee band at all, but I think twee lovers would like this band called Essential Logic.
Morning Star February 17, 2009, 05:15 AM how about another sunny day? their song 'you should all be murdered' is morrissey-eqsue to a fricking t.
Oh my god, it's Robby! March 4, 2009, 11:51 PM i was gonna start a thread about Twee, but since oye is the "resident expert"

Belle and Sebastian are good but I'd have to go for Beat Happening, particularly Black Candy and You Turn Me On. Tiger Trap and The Softies are well worth a listen. Calvin Johnson from Beat Happening has released some good solo stuff also.

oye terence March 5, 2009, 02:15 AM Thanks for bumping the thread, Robby.
I grew up loving beat Happening, my first tattoo was the K records logo, I was so annoyed when I found out Kurt Cobain had the same tattoo.Calvin is a real nice guy too, I met him a few years ago.
I do not know if I could pick out one band and say they are my fave twee band.
I shall work on a new Twee compilation to post, one of these days...

=D I really like this! Listening to their song "Everything with you" for the first time now...and it's even better!
still ill life May 11, 2009, 05:36 PM There is a swedish band called Sad day for puppets. They're pretty good I think.
tothebirds May 12, 2009, 06:55 AM thanks for this lovely collection :)
no problem.
i actually have a request, open to anybody to fulfill.
youd be surprised, maybe, but, i do not have a very big mos/smiths collection [yet]. its too daunting a catalogue, ive always wanted a helping hand. i have friends that are maniacal worshipers at the altar of mos, but, we do not share the penchant for twee/fey stuff.
can somebody make me a playlist friendly to that type of vibe? some songs i really like and actually have memorized are Girl Afraid, heaven knows... , so maybe that era tickles my fancy.
shawnxvx May 12, 2009, 11:11 PM http://www.sendspace.com/file/54ibge
a made a mix with twee songs for someone and thought i'd share. most of the songs are off other mixes or compilations...haha
