I mentioned that I was looking forward to this album and a friend of mine downloaded it off of torrent sites and I listened to it today for the first time. Its bueno. Seriously.

I'm SO excited I get to see him for the first time on 2/2! :D

Have you listened to the single Another World? It's brilliant. I'm trying to get tickets to see him in Boston next month...

Flax

I thought the same question.

I just saw that on his website you can either buy the MP3s ($9.99) or CD+MP3s ($13)

What's weird though is that the album on iTunes has 12 tracks and the CD has only 10 tracks. As I have all the cds, I'll probably just get them both.

Yeah, I just chose the CD+MP3 option so I'm downloading right now. On the site it says the preorders will come with the bonus song "My Lord My Love"... that song is not on iTunes... but the iTunes album comes with Another World (alternate) and Another World video....

Thanks for the download of the album. I have it on order from CDWow but they sent me an email saying their supplies have been delayed so my order will be also. The download will tide me over until the CD arrives.

Thanks for the Prada download information. All that downloaded was a 30 second, or so, advert. Is this right?

I'm hoping the alternate Another World and My Lord My Love will be future B-sides or something as I can't afford to pay to download a whole album just for one song and then do it again!

I've got tickets to see A&TJ in Brighton, U.K. in May. I'm really looking forward to it as I've seen them a few times before and every show has been special.

Thanks Flax, hope you don't mind me taking a copy. I just recently got into Antony and the Johnsons via a White Stripes forum i visit. Bought a ticket to see them in Edinburgh in June. It's a long time since I have been so taken with new music, even though I'm catching on quite late. I've trawled through youtube and watched most of what's there and I can't wait to see them live. Just exquisite music, not like anything else I usually listen too, but WOW, his voice and emotion is quite overwhelming. One of my favourite songs is a cover of Candy Says with Lou Reed.

(tried to embed but it never worked )

I must have watched this everday, just so beautiful mixing with Lou's gravely voice. He looks so in awe of Antony at the end. Just perfection.

Hey scottishblood, go ahead and download it. It was a free download, and the song is great.

I love Candy Says too. It's a perfect song for Antony to cover. I haven't seen it but Antony sings it at the end of the Lou Reed Berlin DVD that was released at the end of last year. I have to buy this just so I can have Antony on film singing this wonderfully painful and sad song.

I love Antony, he's so unique. I don't own anything of his/theirs, but I want to. Any suggestions where to start? Thanks. Has he ever said that Roy Orbison was an influence? I draw comparisons, surely I can't be the only one?

I'm not aware of him saying Roy Orbison was an influence but now you've said it I can see it. He's talked of a number of influences such as Marc Almond (Soft Cell / Marc & The Mambas / solo), Boy George, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone and plenty more.

A&TJ's have released three full studio albums; Antony & The Johnsons; I Am A Bird Now; The Crying Light. Start with any of these but get them all. Antony has worked with a lot of other artists doing duet or full vocals for them on various albums or singles over the last few years. It's actually quite staggering how many guest spots he's done and they are quite varied in style too. For instance his work with Hercules & Love Affair is unexpected but still beautiful although they are a dance outfit.

Enjoy the journey as there is a lot to explore. Antony is a unique artist and I hope he's around for a long time.

He has 3 albums and a few singles. Try the second "I Am A Bird Now". But all of them are great.

Thanks! :) I was once going to buy I Am A Bird Now after I saw Antony on David Letterman. Not sure why I didn't...but I will now. :) Nice influences, I can see the Boy George a bit ;) That's cool Lou is an influence too, makes me appreciate the Candy Says video a lot more. I didn't know he guest vocaled for other artists, maybe I've heard him and didn't realize it? Well, thanks again!

Thanks Flax, I didn't realise that she was on the Sheila cover and I have it aswell. Should take more notice. I know Antony talks alot about Boy George being a huge influence growing up, but I actually prefer the versions of "You are my sister" without his vocals. I also love his version of "If it be your will" which is a Leonard Cohen song. He performed it for the "I'm Your Man" documentary. Another youtube favourite

The little bit of Leonard speaking at the start is the essence of what I feel music is all about.

Another interesting fact about Candy Darling:

The title of the song "You Know I Couldn't Last" comes from a letter she wrote for Andy Warhol and his posse, right before she passed away:

"Unfortunately before my death I had no desire left for life... I am just so bored by everything. You might say bored to death. Did you know I couldn't last. I always knew it. I wish I could meet you all again."

Antony asked his friends the Wachowski Brothers to work with him on a video for his new single "Epilepsy is Dancing". They in turn invited painters Tino Rodriguez and Virgo Paradiso to create costumes and a mystical environment and choreographer Sean Dorsey and his dancers to bring the dream sequence to life. Antony's artistic partner Johanna Constantine stars as herself in the role of "Deer Monster". The video was lit and shot by the up-and-coming directors of photography, Chris Blasingame and Banker White, and produced by Jim Jerome. The production team collectively named themselves AFAS. Please enjoy the fruits of their San Francisco art party.

I've also got tickets to see A&TJ in May and I've got all there singles and two previous albums. I've also seen them a number of times live so I don't feel guilty in the slightest about downloading the album from here. i don't think the generous person who put it up here should be humiliated or told off. Last night I saw Antony and the Johnsons for the first time and I was just ecstatic. What a great performance! The band was superb and sounded excellent. It was the first night of the small US tour he is on right now. He is so charming and funny, I didn’t expect that. I presumed he would be quiet and reserved on stage but he was making jokes left and right and encouraged us to yell things at him so he could make a joke of it.

I couldn’t believe how amazing his voice sounded in person. He hit every note perfectly. But apologized for hitting a few “sours” on the piano as he hasn’t toured with piano since 2006. He said we would have to excuse him as he’s developed “lemons on his fingers”. Haha.

His set list was great. He played every song I wanted to hear. He played nearly all of The Crying Light and all other favorites including “Cripple the Starfish” for the encore :D

Also he did a cover of “Crazy In Love” by Beyonce which was so funny. Highlights included “Shake That Devil”, and “Kiss My Name” had a great crowd reaction.

When he began “You Are My Sister” I knew I was going to shed a tear and tried to make it discrete. Until about halfway through the song I realized, EVERYONE WAS CRYING! HAHHA By the end of the song, the entire theater was sniffling. And it felt appropriate.

Overall it was fantastic. And I am so so so pleased I had the opportunity to finally see him!!

I was at that gig too! :thumb: Also, we waited after the gig b/c my friend insisted that we would be able to see him. The stage door was right next to the main door. So we waited, 20 minutes goes by and Willem Dafoe walks out. I told him I loved him in Shaddow of a Vampire and he was quite pleased, smiled a lot, and said thank you.

About 10 minutes after that, Bjork walked out. She was frightened by my friend who went up to say hello to her haha. My friend is such a huge fan of hers. It was a personal victory for her. Bjork was wearing some amazing red heals that I really liked.

And FINALLY, out walked Antony. He is suprisingly tall, and so f-ing sweet. He signed my Another World EP, and actually gave my friend and I, and 2 other nice people who were waiting, some plants that he had. He was so nice and cute and kept calling us Kittens. He smiled a lot and was just so charming. Signed every last thing that we all asked him to and was just so kind and wonderful. I really wish now that he was my gay best friend. *sigh*

What happened to Emmylou Harris, thats what I want to know. She opened in Philly. Oh well. And no I was all the way to the stage right side in the back. Only 2 or 3 rows behind me was the wall haha. At Philly I was 8th row so I'm not too upset by it.

This doesn't have anything to do with The Crying Light, and it's from a year or so ago but I just really enjoyed reading this. I think this interview gives some good insight on why he feels the way he does in certain situations and also I find his views on beauty and the world to be beyond refreshing. What a great person he is. :thumb:

I had the last paragraph of that article saved because it struck a chord with me, he is a very eloquent person. And to stay on topic I'm listening to Kiss my Name right now. :guitar:

I'm 37 now, and as you get older, you revisit the issues that sit with you in the course of your life. I always felt so self-conscious, and I didn't let myself be beautiful for so many years, but by the time you've made your face worthy of being looked at by anyone, you've abandoned yourself in the process. You show up with a pretty face and an empty heart. Life's too short to be slaving around to other people's expectations. We should put on a little make-up to honour the specific dignity that we have within ourselves, but I'm never putting a spot of make-up on for a man again.

Isn't 'Daylight and the Sun' the most beautiful song ever written and recorded?

Here's a little treat that I'd forgotten I had. Antony accompanied by Bernard Butler for a live radio session.
Beautiful.

Antony Hegarty is damn awesome. 'The Crying Light' is such a good album, and so is 'Hercules and Love Affair'. I've only recently properly listened to anything he's done, but both of these albums are extremely impressive. Really is a strange mixture of his voice with the sort of house-pop style of Hercules and love affair.

Their last album was a lot better than this one. I'd really been looking forward to it, too.
