View Full Version : The Official Russell Brand thread
vicarinatutugal April 7, 2008, 08:36 AM I know we had a thread on general, but I think it is time we had an official one here since there are a lot of Russell fans here as well. So this is it. (did we have one before? ah well this one will be much better if we did)
Anything Russell Brand related can go here. :)

vicarinatutugal April 7, 2008, 08:42 AM Russell wrote a Guardian blog article about Morrissey...
http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/20...the_langu.html
_____
Is Morrissey talking the language of West Ham?
Stop me if you've heard this one before, but could Morrissey be using West Ham to speak to me?
Russell Brand
January 26, 2008 12:05 AM
Is it insanely narcissistic for me to contemplate that Morrissey is trying to communicate with me through the wearing of replica West Ham tops? The answer is, of course, "Yes". "Yes it is. Why would you even need to ask?" Well, because I've been courting Morrissey, of whom I'm a lifelong fan (if that life is about 18 years), for several months with the intention of persuading him to commit to a documentary where I interview him, follow him about and analyse his legacy.
He is aware of my devotion to the Hammers and seems rather fond of me; recently on stage at a handful of gigs that I was unfortunately unable to attend he introduced the members of his band before saying "and I'm Russell Brand". When I heard tell of this I became all queasy and loopy and reckoned it to be the start of a beautiful friendship with a beloved icon. The knowledge of this name-check dramatically impaired my enjoyment of the performance I attended at the Camden Roundhouse this week ("I don't perform, seals perform ... unfortunately") as between each song I became rigid with dashed expectation as I awaited the utterance of my name like it was the sixth Lotto Thunderball number. The trepidation was so torturously unbearable that I nearly leapt to my feet and screeched: "I'm Russell and I need you to love me."
Thankfully I just sat there all spurned, listening to the hardcore chant, to the tune of "'Ere We Go", "Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey". I once did a gig with Noel Gallagher and the similarity between the crowd there and at football was startling but I suppose somehow natural because of the obvious corollary of those two demographics, but would you expect to find a large terrace fraternity at a Morrissey gig?
I suppose I'm an unlikely member of both groups, alas on that occasion, unlike at Upton Park I was unwilling to subjugate my identity into the throng but instead perched on my seat's edge wringing my clammy fists like a meekly loyal housekeeper waiting to be listed in the Oscar acceptance speech of an oblivious employer.
At the point in his set where he introduced his band I became so agitated with futile hope that I kicked over my neighbour's drink and locked hands with my companion so tightly that to escape she had to chew through her own wrist like a trapped fox. The fantastic set concluded, quite rightly, without any mention of my name, which has helped me to re-evaluate my expectations of live entertainment. I won't on Wednesday, for Liverpool's visit to West Ham, expect Dean Ashton and Mark Noble to come out at half-time and sing "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" without once breaking eye contact with me, and I think that alone will make it a more enjoyable evening.
So, with my unrealistic, egocentric dementia happily acknowledged we can return to the question posed at this article's genesis. On the cover of his new single That's How People Grow Up Morrissey is wearing a West Ham Boy's Club T-shirt - now he did once wear the same shirt nine years ago, before we met, before he would've had any awareness of my existence, unless he was a secret attendant of Grays School's production of Bugsy Malone in which I dazzled as Fat Sam, but is there even the remotest possibility that his renewed interest in the garment could've been sparked by my own allegiance to the club? "No, let it go." Well, after the show I asked him. Not outright like Paxman, more opaque and obtuse, like Columbo.
I had him cornered but not isolated; also present were the former QPR striker, now with MK Dons, Kevin Gallen and a bloke called Liam, who I think was a Millwall fan. I cagily asked Morrissey why he had taken to wearing the claret and blue, fingers crossed in pockets that the response would come "Because of you, darling boy" but before Morrissey spoke Kevin said, "You're a QPR fan ain't ya?" and Liam said, "I thought you liked Millwall?"
I saw this as a brilliant opportunity to recount an intriguing anecdote I once heard on the History Channel, told by an old German man who had once been a member of the Hitler Youth (I know this is the second consecutive week that I've mentioned Hitler, I'm not secretly Nazi, I don't know why it keeps happening, I think he was a wicked, wicked man. Wicked as in bad, not hip and edgy.)
It was along the lines of: "We the assembled ranks of the Hitler Youth were watching the Führer give a speech, and at the point he said 'You young men are the future of the Fatherland' he looked right into my eyes and I knew he was speaking specifically to me. When I told the other members of my experience each of them said 'No, when he said that he looked into my eyes'"
Now I related this to demonstrate amusingly that all three of us had keenly believed that Morrissey was a follower of our chosen team but midway through I remembered NME coating him off and calling him racist.
To be clear Morrissey is not racist, and only a twit could make such an accusation. Nonetheless I thought "Oh no, he's gonna think I'm comparing him to Hitler" - I mean he's a vegetarian, artistic and very charismatic but it's not a comparison I imagine he'd welcome. I began to flounder and back-pedal, trying to distance myself from my words even as they tumbled from my mouth, clarifying and mitigating like a drowning Hugh Grant. When I finished blathering Morrissey gave a world-weary sigh and turned to the other two gents - "Of course... this is what Russell does for a living" he said.

heheh yes I did it was on last weeks pod cast I think. I think the jungle race war participant was aiming for an Morrissey vibe. Matt said it sounded like Morrissey.
Oh ladies (and gents) have you seen this page (http://www.russellbrandradioshows.zoomshare.com/0.html) its brilliant.

I didn't really like ol' Russ but then I started to listen to the show mainly because of the fact he plays Morrissey, now I like Matt more than Russell. :D
A few weeks ago did you hear Russell going on about Moz's greatest Hits album he referred to Morrisseys pic as "Morrissey's lovely face in repose" and mentioned that Morrissey had signed it to him as "Russell, my discky wisk, yours Morrissey" or something like that and Matt went "oh god, why don't you two just get a room!"
Russell replied " I Would love to be in a room with Morrissey" :D

Also the other week when Matt mentioned that as soon as (superstar) Russell came back from America he said, "Oh god, I forgot to e-mail Morrissey" anyone here that?

Vaudeville_Heroes April 7, 2008, 06:40 PM I love Russell! I started listening to his show back when it was 6 Music, because since I'm a massive fan of Oasis an English friend of mine told me I should listen to this show since occasionally they ring up Noel Gallagher- so I started downloading it and I fell in love!
I listen to it every week now. He's just so wacky. And I adore Matt Morgan! Most times I think he's funnier.

I can't wait until Forgetting Sarah Marshall comes out...Russell wants to be famous so badly here lol, I hope it happens for him. The songs he did for that movie are oddly enjoyable.
I still have to read his booky wook though :) It's sooo cute and funny how Morrissey signed his CD for Russell!! I know Russell loves Morrissey so much so it's great that they have become sorta-kinda friends...

Mel_Torment April 8, 2008, 08:47 AM Mell posted about going to Russell Brand's show Saturday night. There's a really cute photo of her and Brand. Karin, maybe you could put links to the stories and photo.
Here's my bit reposted from the frink thread:
So I got one of my fiends to come to the Russell Brand show tonight. Turns out a whole bunch of people we know also went at the last minute, so we all filled up one row in front of the reserved section. It was sold out and packed.
I came for the dirty jokes and was not disappointed, although I don't think he's as filthy as he likes to think he is, Santorum & bumming aside. But then I'm a little jaded 'cos i've worked in pr0n.
Near the end, someone asked Brand how his cat, Morrissey, was doing, and Brand instead talked about Morrissey the singer coming to the show last night. Brand was dead chuffed, of course. He went on about how Morrissey went backstage and had a little chat. Brand said they should get together more often but that it's difficult because Moz doesn't stay at a stable address, that he's always living in hotels. Then Russell does an OTP melodramatic impersonation of Moz saying how he doesn't have a reason to live. I'm sure I've fluffed it, but that's the gist of it.
I did not stick around to meet Brand because there's no WC at that tiny theater.
I was wrong. There was a toilet in the backstage for the audience to use. I thought the long queue was to meet Russell Brand! Turns out they just needed to go wee.
So I sent Russell Brand a myspaz message congratulating him on a hilarious Hell A debut and told him that I hoped I could meet him the next time he returns here and appears in a much larger venue as all his shows this month in Hollyweird are sold out.
He sent a reply that went something like "Thanks" and "you seem to have big boobs so let's meet". Uh, yes, I do, thanks? :p But I just want to chat with him cos he's so funny and candid about his megalomania, sex, and everything else people try to hide.

Thanks Mel, I didn't see your post earlier. You're sweet :D. Russell wrote back to you already?? WOW! Yes, he was drooooooling over the girls with the big boobies. (I have none :tears:) There was a girl next to me (tall, blonde, boobies totally hanging out) and she asked Russell to sign his book. He wrote something quickly in her book and then leaned in slowly and very deliberately to give her a kiss on the lips (or right next to the lips--I couldn't see, I think Russell's hair was in the way). Oh and, I believe Russell is on The Tonight Show with er.. Jay Leno this evening in America?
Mel_Torment April 8, 2008, 10:50 PM Russell wrote back to you already?? WOW! Yes, he was drooooooling over the girls with the big boobies. (I have none :tears:) There was a girl next to me (tall, blonde, boobies totally hanging out) and she asked Russell to sign his book. His mum was there? Awwww...I wonder if he toned it down or just went balls out (hur hur) because of her presence. What does she look like? Did he say anything about her during his show on Saturday? I wonder what she is doing in L.A. Here for her son only?
I wouldn't be able to do what he does if my mum were watching! Hell, I was very uncomfortable driving my mum in my car and "Hooker" by one of Gary Day's bands came on before I could change it (it's right after "GoodLooking Man about Town"). It's a very rude song. My mum was intrigued by the whistle at the beginning. Doh! Once she noticed the whistle, I couldn't change it otherwise that would really draw more attention to it.
The day Moz himself sings something to make me blush in front of my mum...is the day i jump into the ocean, though admittedly, I jump into the ocean on occasion for purely recreational purposes. I've shown her Mozzer's arse piccy for purely entertainment value. :D
Back to Russell Brand (he'd want it that way), yes, he's very appreciative of large female mammary glands. Mentioned how he'd like to dictate a slutty dress code for the women in his audience. Mentioned that even his mum comes dressed sluttily...because she knows about the dress code. So how was his mum dressed on Saturday? ;)
Big tits aren't everything, Mell. If you try to dress conservatively, they make you look fat and frumpy. Overly big boobies can hurt your back, make your bra straps dig in, and they often attract sleaze. You are cute with a lovely smile! Don't cry over modest boobage.
Vaudeville_Heroes April 9, 2008, 12:33 AM Oh and, I believe Russell is on The Tonight Show with er.. Jay Leno this evening in America?
I just checked the Tonight Show's website, and yes Russell will be on tonight (Tuesday) at 11:35pm
I'm so going to watch it, thanks for the head's up!

On Saturday's radio show she was in the studio with him too and again the stuff they were talking about surprised me, given she was sitting right there lol
But that's something I love about Russell, he doesn't hold anything back really :D

Thank you, Mel! You're so kind! It's okay having small boobies. At least I don't have to wear multiple sports bras to go running. :p
I have a pic on my other computer of Russ and his Mum. It's an awful pic because she has massive red eye, but she looks normal and had light-ish brown hair. I just remember she was wearing black, I don't think it was anything scandalous.

I agree, I don't get the impression he held anything back with his Mum being there. I'm sure she's WAAAY used to it. ;) I'm actually curious if he would have liked to talk about Morrissey if Morrissey wasn't there!
vicarinatutugal April 9, 2008, 07:03 AM This was a show Russell and Matt made for bbc 4 and I was working when it was on. Never got round to seeing it so I will soon. :)
blurb Jack Kerouac's classic novel, On The Road, turns 50 this year. This semi-autobiographical account of Kerouac's crazy, hedonistic travels across America has inspired countless hipsters and restless souls to "hit the road".
To mark this auspicious birthday, Kerouac-devotee Russell Brand embarks on his own coast-to-coast adventure in homage to his literary hero. Quirky and impulsive, Russell Brand's stream-of-consciousness style is the comedic equivalent of Jack Kerouac's spontaneous prose.
Travelling with his BBC Radio 2 colleague, Matt Morgan, Brand begins his journey by visiting Kerouac's home town, Lowell, in Massachusetts. After perusing the writer's personal papers with Kerouac's brother-in-law, John Sampas, and paying a visit to Kerouac's grave, they set off across America to soak up the spirit of the Beat Generation.
Photos:
Dictated by the original journey, they drive to New York and then set out across America's vast heartland bound for San Francisco. Along the way they visit many of Kerouac's old haunts, meet up with characters from the book and discover friends from Kerouac's past.
This personal adventure reflects Brand's fascination with Jack Kerouac, and is also a journey of his own self-discovery.

I think most Americans haven't ever heard of him before--I liked how he poked fun at it with the comment about there being one "woo!" :) I think his dirty humor won the crowd over really quickly! Most American celebs are not very quick-witted at all, so I think he did great. :D I called my parents last night to tell them to record the show since my dad's been asking, "Who's this guy you went to see?"

Claudia2006 April 12, 2008, 12:47 AM A few weeks ago did you hear Russell going on about Moz's greatest Hits album he referred to Morrisseys pic as "Morrissey's lovely face in repose" and mentioned that Morrissey had signed it to him as "Russell, my discky wisk, yours Morrissey" or something like that and Matt went "oh god, why don't you two just get a room!"
Russell replied " I Would love to be in a room with Morrissey" :D

A woman knowing what she's getting herself into doesn't make it any less... I don't know, empty? Pointless?
Fancy dinners and stuff? I don't think that's going to make up for the feeling of being the thousand and twentieth woman he's slept with (including probably hundreds of prostitutes). That would have to be one hell of a fancy dinner (and shag!) to make up for the complete silence afterwards.
Personally, I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole in that way. But I still he's great, and I'd love to hang out with him.

I dunno, I guess I just see it differently. :)It's always made me slightly iraite that it seems to be (and I'm not saying you're suggesting this!) that a woman can't ever just want sex, and will always be 'used' but a man can. same as a man whos slept with a lot of people is a 'bit of a lad' and a woman is a 'slut'.

Oh of course, I totally agree, that's not what i'm saying. if other girls want to sleep with him and they want to sleep with them, good luck to them. He is honest, girls do know what he's about, so fair play.

I just listened to it. My GOD! Morrissey lurves Russell. Did you hear him say, "I love you, Russell", at the end? And he's in such a good mood... and so... so... FUN!
This freaks me out. I've never experienced Morrissey interacting with someone he's liked so much before. It's really charming.

'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' star Russell Brand leaves a mark
http://i.usatoday.net/life/_photos/2008/04/16/brandx-large.jpg
By Lael Loewenstein, Special for USA TODAY
LOS ANGELES — Most people wouldn't show up for an audition, admit they hadn't read the script — and then land their first role in a major motion picture.
Russell Brand is not like most people.
At a casting session for Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which opens Friday, the British comedian, 32, confessed that he'd only managed to take a "cursory glance" at the screenplay. Then he added with a flourish, "Would you mind telling me what it's all about?"
Instead of showing him the exit, actor/writer Jason Segel and director Nicholas Stoller were so intrigued by Brand's combination of honesty and bravado — not to mention his outlandish appearance — that they urged him to improvise.
Never mind that Brand, known for rocker threads, gravity-defying hair and a loosely androgynous persona, was nothing like the bookish character Segel and Stoller had envisioned as the film's romantic rival. For the man who lures comely Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) from her longtime boyfriend (Segel), they'd been thinking "more along the lines of a Hugh Grant type," recalls producer Judd Apatow.
Stoller at first thought the casting director was playing a practical joke. "But Russell was so persuasive, so funny and so real," he says, "that we decided we had to rewrite the character as a rock star."
As Aldous Snow, Brand mixes a rocker's charisma, a bad boy's sexual magnetism and the comedian's own quirky charm into a tempting cocktail. Critics and preview audiences are abuzz over Brand's scene-stealing performance. The latest in a line of Apatow-shepherded comedies to fuse adolescent male humor with emotional warmth (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up), Sarah Marshall looks to be Brand's ticket to international stardom.
Though he enjoys massive popularity in the U.K., he's relatively unknown in the USA, something he freely mines in his standup performances: "What's the point," he muses, lamenting his anonymity in America, "of having such preposterous hair with no fame to back it up?"
Preposterous or not, Brand's hair has become as distinctive as his personality, which he's quick to distinguish from that of his on-screen alter ego. Unlike the relatively plainspoken Snow, Brand demonstrates verbal dexterity and an agile mind, both on stage and in person.
And over a vegetarian lunch at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont, Brand is sweet and unfailingly polite, not at all like his aloof and self-important movie character.
In person, in fact, Brand is a slightly dialed-down version of his standup persona, which might best be described as manic existentialist. A question about romance, for example, can unleash an elaborate response that references Nietzsche, Depeche Mode, the Bible and The Matrix. A query about balancing humility and narcissism might provoke ruminations on consumerism, quantum physics and Nelson Mandela's human rights struggle.
Like his comedy idols Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce, Brand freely confesses his own weaknesses, openly using his personal travails for comic fodder in his standup routine.
A recovering addict, he'll delve into rapid-fire, stream-of-consciousness stories about his days smuggling heroin. As for questions about his own sexuality, Brand identifies himself as resolutely straight — the tight leather pants, he says, make him less off-putting to men.
Brand admits to having supplanted his drug and alcohol dependency with a seemingly insatiable quest for success. Asked if he can imagine attaining the same stature as pop culture icons (and former Chateau Marmont denizens) Jim Morrison, James Dean and John Belushi, Brand replies, without missing a beat, "At the very least. I have a huge hunger in me."
At his current pace, he certainly has a shot. His slate is packed with projects that span film, TV, Internet, radio, newspapers and books; there's hardly a medium he has overlooked.
Brand says, however, that it's not fame that feeds him — it's the thrill he gets from performing.
"The way I justify my incredible appetite for recognition," Brand says, "is that I would do this happily for the rest of my life for nothing because of a devotional, religious, vocational love of what I consider to be an art form. I love standup comedy. I love making people laugh."

Is that his real voice? I had never heard him before and I was a bit surprised. Is he wearing his trousers a bit too tight?
He reminds me of a cross between Johnny Depp's pirate and Robert Smith.
He does seem like a witty guy. I'd like to see that DVD of his.
As an unrelated question.
The British accent where "th" is spoken as a "v" or "f", like "break through" spoken as "break frew" or "together " as "togever"; is that accent or dialect peculiar to a certain region or upbringing, or just a common slang way of speaking.
Just curious.

well he does actually speak like that and yes his trousers are too tight, he did not always dress like that though, used to be baggy jeans and t shirts. The accent thing, well its kind if a london thing I think.

Anaesthesine April 17, 2008, 05:54 PM Much as I hate to admit that Morrissey can still influence my influences, I spent the whole morning a few days ago YouTubing Russell Brand, and I'm totally hooked. I got my husband to watch, and he's very impressed as well (we're both RABID Eddie Izzard fans). If Russell ever comes to NYC, we're so there
I have a great weakness for clever, (somewhat) androgynous, eyelinered, vegetarian men with big hair and a huge corpus callosum. The fact that he is a Lenny Bruce fan makes him almost perfect. Good luck to him - I bet he's gonna be a hit.
I can see why Morrissey and Russell get along so famously - birds of a feather and all that.

I was watching the credits rolls and I heard some of the people walking out say, "His name is Russell Brand! I've never heard of him!" This movie's gonna make him a star in the States!
Vaudeville_Heroes April 20, 2008, 05:07 AM mell he totally stole every scene, you're so right! i saw it on friday and thought it was great- i can't tell if i'd love it as much as i did if russell hadn't been in it, but that doesn't matter! :)
the theater i was in seemed to be full of russell brand fans, as when he appeared on screen several of us starting "woo"-ing and clapping hehe.
i was reading a review of it, and they loved the movie and were saying russell was the best thing about it. jason segal (who starred in it/wrote it) said that russell is definitely "going to be a huge star" and is "a genius"- i must agree!

I was Russell Brand's BIT on the side
(And here's the proof)
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/images/homepage/2004_brand_header.jpg
RANDY comic Russell Brand proved he's a JAWSOME talent in the bedroom—by BITING his first Hollywood lover.
The legendary lothario—who is trying to make it big in the States—stunned barmaid Catherine Coppin by sinking his teeth into her thigh as he bedded her an incredible SIX TIMES in a hour.
Sex-mad Russell, 32, is starring in his first US blockbuster Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
And though new in town, the wildman didn't waste any time picking up his first American girl.
Catherine smiled: "He said he was going to enjoy the experience. And he did—six times in one hour in every position and place imaginable.
"Russell is a total sex machine and can go like no man I've ever met before. So if his acting ability is anything like his bedroom ability, then there is no doubt that he is going to be a huge star.
"At one point he got so carried away he sank his teeth into my thigh—and I still have the mark to prove it."
Catherine fell for the funnyman after watching a preview of his new film, released here on Friday.
Strangely enough, he plays a sex-mad love-rival and has already won rave reviews for his performance with co-star Kristen Bell.
Catherine beamed: "I thought he was hilarious in it. I'd never heard of him before but I was delighted when a friend knew him and gave me his phone number."
Reward
So without further ado, Catherine texted him the brazen invitation: "Do me". Russell didn't need asking twice.
"He didn't have a clue who I was," she explained, "but we started to send flirty texts."
The next day they arranged to meet at Hollywood nightclub Villa, but not before Catherine, 27, had looked Russell up on the internet and realised how famous he was in Britain.
"When I arrived at the club I found him sitting with David Beckham and I thought he must be big to hang out with him," she said.
"David didn't have much to say and he's got such a high-pitched voice I couldn't understand a word, but it was a good job as Russell loves the sound of his own voice and never shut up.
"He's so full of himself he's taken to Hollywood like a duck to water. He told me he was a multi-millionaire comic and now actor, and I was his reward for doing so well.
"I told him he was full of himself and obnoxious but he just laughed and said: ‘That's me.' Hollywood was made for people like Russell."
Gradually, Catherine warmed to his quirky charm. "There is no doubt Russell loves women," she said. "And from the moment I sat down he made me feel like a princess.
"He was stroking my leg, holding my hand and telling me how beautiful I was. Then he started biting my neck with David sat just a few feet away. It was very weird but very exciting."
So when Russell invited Catherine back to his new multi-million-pound Hollywood mansion she couldn't resist.
The stunning brunette—who had a fling with another Brit, Robbie Williams, last year—said: "His place is amazing. It's in an exclusive area and has a gorgeous pool. He's so proud of it and he told me he was thinking of moving to Los Angeles permanently as his film career is really taking off."
Wildman Russell also confessed about his past battles with booze and drugs. "He told me his new life in Hollywood was helping him stay clean as he was too busy to go out. I don't drink, which he loved, and he told me his days of partying were over, then laughed: ‘All I do now is work, practise yoga and think about sex.'"
Russell has told all about his sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll days in his life story My Booky Wook, now set to be made into a film.
But it was nookie-wookie that was on his mind once he got Catherine home. "Within seconds of stepping inside, Russell had dragged me upstairs to the bathroom, ripped off my clothes and pushed me into the shower.
"He kissed and bit every inch of my body and sank his teeth into my thigh. I still have the mark on my leg.
"Then he grabbed my hips and pushed my face against the shower wall and we had fast, frantic sex.
"I was satisfied with that but just three minutes after having an orgasm, Russell was ready to go again.
"The next thing I knew he had pushed me in the Jacuzzi and water was going everywhere as we had sex all over again. He couldn't keep his hands off my bottom. He'd say in his sexy British accent, ‘Oh my goodness, it's sublime' as he bit and spanked it." But the insatiable star was far from bottoming out.
"No sooner had we finished and Russell was ready to go again and we had sex a second time in the hot tub," added Catherine, who has modelled under the name Suzanne.
"He was a total sex machine and had a talent I have never known any other man to have. He could just keep going and going."
Russell was still only HALFWAY through his sex marathon. It was off to the balcony next. "He bent me over it and as I looked out at the Hollywood Hills I felt like the luckiest girl alive," she sighed.
But she was about to get even luckier. Minutes after the snake-hipped charmer had completed his fourth romp he was at it yet again.
Catherine grinned: "Russell turned me round and made love to me from a different angle."
Wait for it...
"Then he led me to the bedroom. I thought he'd tired himself out so I went to put my clothes on, but he said, ‘Come back here, naughty girl. I'm not finished with you yet.' And before I knew it, we were having sex for a sixth time in a position I've never done before in my life. We were both on our knees. It was just mind blowing."
And with that, Russell rolled over and fell asleep. Catherine said: "I skipped out the door after enjoying the best night of my life."
No surprise then that she was keen for round two when Russell invited her out for dinner the next day at LA's posh Chateau Marmont hotel.
"It was so much fun," she said. "He made me laugh so much I cried. He told me the only things he lived for since he gave up drugs were work and sex.
"Russell doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks of him and that's what I found so attractive.
"I tried to talk to him about what he had done in Hollywood since he moved there, but he just said he'd worked, letched at all the fabulous women and marvelled at how white everyone's teeth are.
"He was so brazen you couldn't help but love his company.
"As soon as we had eaten Russell said, ‘Let's go home and s**g' and I willingly agreed. After the night before I couldn't wait to get him home."
Cue rompathon No2... "This time we didn't even make it into the house. Russell led me to the pool, and when I told him it was too cold he just grabbed me, ripped my clothes off and pushed me in.
"It was so funny. Russell then stripped down to his tiny white pants and dived in. He grabbed me and we had the most amazing sex."
And, if you're getting a sense of deja vu, here's why.
Catherine raved: "Seconds after we finished he was ready for more. This time he pushed me onto the sun lounger and off he went again.
"It was like he had rechargeable batteries. We had sex a third time on his balcony but there was no way I could go another three times so I told him I had to go, and ran out the door to recover.
"Russell has sent me messages since saying he is gagging to see me. I can't wait either, I'm just building up some energy so I can cope with him."
vicarinatutugal April 20, 2008, 11:07 AM and a review of forgetting sarah marshall from the NOTW (poss spoilers)
very good review
YOU know those times when you split up with a knockout blonde TV star, only to fly off to Hawaii and end up doing the fallopian fandango with a gorgeous hotel receptionist?
Nope, me neither. But that's exactly what happens in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
A film that deserves at least five stars for taking that story and making it seem even remotely plausible.
Let alone for giving us, as of now, the funniest two hours of 2008.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall's writer Jason Segel ("best known"—and I use the term advisedly—for US sitcom How I Met Your Mother) also stars as Peter Bretter, a struggling musician who writes the soundtrack to a CSI-style TV show.
Best thing in his life is stunning, long-term girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell, the Gossip Girl from Gossip Girl), who stars in the same show.
In an amusingly poorly-timed chat— right after Peter climbs stark-naked out of the shower—Sarah dumps him for rock-star love-god Aldous Snow (Russell Brand playing himself—or his public persona, anyway).
To get over the split, Peter flies to a Hawaiian resort that Sarah had always wanted to visit. Problem is, she's there too. With Aldous.
While Peter comes to terms with his ex dating a better-looking, more talented and popular version of himself, he meets resort receptionist Rachel (Mila Kunis, aka Meg from Family Guy—and holy moly, does this girl not have a face for voiceover work).
As the foursome awkwardly get to know one another over cocktails and spectacular sunsets, Sarah begins to realise that Peter's not the only one who regrets their split.
First things first: Forgetting Sarah Marshall is funny. Very, very, VERY funny.
But although the jokes are fresh, plentiful and, more often than not, crude as hell, they also have a fair bit of emotional heft.
Reason being, to coin a Brent-ism: "There's a weight of intellect behind this comedy." Example: a recently-dumped Peter weeping on screen, totally naked.
Clever—because it symbolises his emotional nakedness. And funny— because, well, it's a crying bloke with his ding-dang out, innit.
The sex scenes, too, are hilariously honest—and toe-curlingly recognisable. Well, perhaps not the one where Russell Brand ransacks a giant chess board and starts literally bashing the bishop. But the others, definitely.
Typically for a Judd Apatow-helmed film (the Knocked Up and Superbad guru is on producer duty), the best-written characters are the blokes.
Both Peter and Aldous, who could easily have been a zero-dimensional caricature, are brilliantly rounded, very human creations. Although, in this week's laziest sexist gag, there's no question that the girls are well-rounded too. Particularly Mila Kunis in that low-cut top. Mamma mia.
And supporting characters, played by the usual bunch of Apatow staples (Superbad's Seth Rogen and Bill Hader, Knocked Up's Paul Rudd and so on) are uniformly fantastic.
A word now, if we may, about Russell Brand. The shouty ballbags man. Who's managed to become a famous TV comedian without having ever, to my knowledge, having said anything that funny on the telly.
So if you've been grinding your teeth to the sound of his mockney jabbering over the last few years, and wondering just what the feckin' point of the guy is, here's your answer.
He can actually be hilarious.
Let loose by some lazy Channel 4 commissioning muppet on a supposedly edgy late-night format, he's a self-indulgent, babbling goon.
But reined in and given direction by true comedy savants, such as Judd Apatow and Jason Segel, he's a force to be reckoned with.
No disputing it. In a film packed with fantastic comic performances, Brand steals the show.
He's endlessly likeable and his comic timing is accurate to the nearest millisecond. It's a performance that, for better or worse, will launch him as an international star.
There's a shaft of daylight between Forgetting Sarah Marshall and earlier Apatow productions Knocked Up and Superbad.
But make no mistake, this is still sitting comfortably in five-star territory.
In fact, I'll be amazed if this isn't one of the greatest comedies of the entire year.
Forget Sarah Marshall? No chance of that.

I just got back from Sarah Marshall..... here's my 4 word review: Russell made the movie. :D
I was sitting there thinking omg this is so WEIRD. I'm in a movie theater with regular people watching Russell Brand! Since I'm American I feel like he's the private property of a select group of, um.... "irregular" people. (And I'm very proud to be one. ;))

good news for Russell apart from every review I have read saying he steals the show, the movie got pretty good returns on the weekend in usa.
(even tho the numbers are down last year on movie ticket sales)

It's a little late, maybe. Or it might be the other way around as far as who's catching something from whom.
Six times in one hour? I'm not impressed, either. The story doesn't sound exactly true. If it is true, it does not reflect well on Brand.
Been in a similiar situation, and the sex was mediocre to lame. The guy kept going compulsively the way some food addicts bolt down their food without tasting it. I felt as if he was trying to prove something, like how virile he was or somesuch nonsense. Put me right off. Anyone who's any good knows it's all about quality over quantity and making your partner(s) feel desired and completed. Anyhow women can orgasm like the day is long, far outpacing men.
I'm not saying Brand is like that guy I talked about. I don't know. And I never will! :)

Have you looked into adding more fiber to your diet? :p
I've changed my mind and think I'll check out Forgetting Sarah Marshall. You guys have swayed me! If it weren't for Brand, I don't think I would bother paying theatre prices to see it.
BTW, is anyone else interested in seeing Brand at the Roxy (Hollywood) May 11th or 18th? These Roxy shows are so close to the ones that he did at Paul Gleason and are DOUBLE the price, so no one else I know wants to go. Please PM if interested. We could get a reserved booth if enough people want to go. Individual tickets for the May 11th show are gone.

Oh, I see why I'm supposed to care about this person. Wikipedia has some shit about him related to PETA. Yawn. Is he actually funny or is it all about his dietary choices? We'll see.
Wikipedia also says he went on TV the day after 9/11 dressed up as Osama bin Laden. Is that funny or is he a degenerate? It says in an artcle linked from Wikipedia that he goes on about his degenerate past as a heroin and crack addict who fucked lots of crackwhores.
Here's what he says now about why he found it funny to dress as Bin Laden on TV just 24 hours after thousands of innocent people were mass-murdered by Bin Laden:
MTV finally sacked him when he turned up the day after 11 September dressed as Osama Bin Laden. Brand says he wouldn't do something like that now. 'Back then I was very anarchic in a very uneducated way,' he says. 'I thought, good, I'm glad society is crumbling, I'm glad everyone is afraid. Well, I guess anyone can change, but I find someone who said to himself "Good" on 9/11 someone I probably don't wanna know, and must note yet another PETA-associated person who has a soft spot for terrorists.
More looking forward to Yoakam, but I'll see why all of SoLow is in a tizzy about this Brand character.
joey May 16, 2008, 04:31 AM He actually gave a very funny interview, kind of short though. He made a funny joke that went unnoticed but I got it. I thought he may have come out there to promote the new Pirates movie though ;)
Don't worry, no Moz mention on the show, but mentions of Russell being at The Roxy on May 18 and 25.

I didn't find this appearance anything of note. He fell back on the usual talk-show thing of jokes about the airport. I guess it was mildly amusing how he described his criminal past as "youthful folly and hijinks" with his effeminate voice, but he struck me as a nothing talent going nowhere. Letterman got him in and out of there in short order.

I do find that funny. But not that funny, considering how close it is to the reality of Middle Eastern Muslim culture, especially amongst the Palestinkians. The Palestinkians have a childrens' TV program that has a little girl making out suicide/homicide bombing as the greatest thing a kid can do with his or her life. (BTW, Hamas lovers are now endorsing Obama.)

I'd never heard the story about Russell Brand, but obviously the day after 9/11 was no time to dress as Osama bin Laden. I just wonder if some types of humor can ever be "tasteful" (actually, I mean non-rage-inciting) after a certain amount of time.
The pic made me laugh, too, but I feel that it's controversial and liable to offend some people, and hesitated to post it.

I think plenty of time has passed for 9/11 jokes to be funny now. But to do that the very day after was rather stupid. It appears he recognizes that. I was just looking for a thread to be contrarian in (how long can I milk faux outrage about people mocking Jenna's wedding?), but Brand did not seem like any special comedic talent to me. I suppose not much can be read into a very short Letterman appearance. However, Letterman got rid of him quick, and Brand didn't seem to have much material in any case.

Yeah, I thought it was too brief, too! It seemed like Letterman was rushing the interview and wouldn't let Brand talk about his earlier show at the Roxy. :( Brand's Leno appearance was much funnier.
Brand made that joke about being bashed over the head with rainbows the first show at the Roxy and probably at the Gleason Theatre. I'm hoping he'll talk about being detained at immigration. He didn't speak about the deportation at the Roxy the first night. I would sell my ticket for May 18th because I don't want to be bored with Brand rehashing most of the material, but I already scheduled that night off from work, missing out on a well-paying assignment, so I might as well go see Brand.

A term used by a racist bigot.

Russell got papped outside of his show on Sunday in LA. He must have been thrilled by the attention. :)

vicarinatutugal May 16, 2008, 01:48 PM DId you hear last weeks show? he was talking a bit about Having Dinner with Morrissey, really funny stuff, he wanted to take some Dolly bird and I guess he was told it was not on. Matt goes, what did you have to eat, Russell goes, oh I had a turnip he had a parsnip and he mentioned Morrissey had red wine.
vicarinatutugal May 16, 2008, 01:49 PM Aww and also, he said something about Morrissey and Matt went, thats your hero your talking about and Russell said something like, well if he does not know I love him more than anything by now, I don't know what else I can do. oooh! Is it the May 10th show?
I watched Russ on Letterman last night...interview was waaaay too short and Letterman seemed to not have much to talk to him about so he kept asking him questions about his immigration troubles. :( Russ was good, though, very quick as usual! I like him more and more each time I see him. :)
jesuisbryony May 16, 2008, 02:44 PM Russell goes, oh I had a turnip he had a parsnip
and they chinked them together like glasses :p
MadameChaos May 16, 2008, 02:53 PM I don't understand what goes through Russell's head. He gets to spend time with Morrissey and he wants to take along some random Dolly Bird, does she have an MA in Philosophy or something?

yes he did not even really know her.. lol I love the fact though that Morrissey or his PA went, you shall not bring some dolly bird and Russell went ok no problem.. :D

It wasn't some random dolly bird actually, it was Sharon, one of Russell's best friends who is also his stylist, and trust me, she is no dolly bird.

oh yes, I know who sharon is, I did not know that was who he was speaking of. However it was, it came across funny in the pod cast.

he was high on heroin at the time.
vicarinatutugal May 17, 2008, 10:47 AM he was high on heroin at the time.
yes, I recall it at the time. Also he was kind of known for stupid arse stunts at the time. Mnay bad decisions were made around that time. Like the whole series of reBrand :p

But Sharon did go with them to that dinner and they talked about boxers. Was that not in the podcast? I think he was talking about not being "allowed" :p to bring some random girl he just met or something. Or possibly he just realized on his own it wasn't the best idea... ;)

russ on Dave letterman (if it cuts out just play it again and fwd to the bit it cut at)
Claudia2006 May 17, 2008, 10:23 PM ^^ Thanks that was my 1st chance to see it.
Awwwww he was good. :) It was short but I think David and the audience liked him.
Mel_Torment May 20, 2008, 05:01 AM Before the show started, I was chatting with two English women who were very pretty. I asked if they had seen Russell Brand before, and the blonde told me that the brunette one was an ex-girlfriend of Russell's!
I asked her if she worried about Russell talking about her or their relationship in his routines. She had never seen Russell at work per se. I assured her that he doesn't name names, but it might be awkward if she suspects he's talking about her. I had fun watching her reacting to his jokes as well as other people cracking up. She was sweet and had a good sense of humour. I think she and her friend enjoyed it as much as I did.
Here's a piccy I took of Russell Brand and a friend who does not want her face all over the internets:

I have long thought that one of his bracelets looks a bit like the chunky ornate silver bracelet Morrissey has been wearing in concert since last year. I also wondered what was written/tattooed on his hands.
When I met Brand after the show, he gave me a kiss on the cheek for my troubles. Brand did the same material as before, but I still had a damn good time.
WinkWink May 20, 2008, 05:49 AM Ok...somebody has to say this. enough is enough.
Why is it Russell Brand was absolutely nothing special on these boards not too long ago. the matter of fact, many here used to rip on him. Now Morrissey 'seems' to be a fan and everyone here loves Russell Brand.
Isn't that, well, kind of lame?

lol, well I liked Russell when he was wanking drunks off in toilets and that was not yesterday.
MadameChaos May 20, 2008, 08:47 AM He's only just taken off in the US. In England though he's been around for a while. Does that explain it?
Franissey May 20, 2008, 01:28 PM I still don't love him. He is occationally funny but I can't get past the hair and the stubble. Does he ever change his outfit? I don't change my outfit much either but then again I'm not trying to make a living on my looks. God help me if I was.

:D That's exactly what a friend of mine thinks of him. She said he needs a good shave and a haircut and then some serious styling.

I think it's like Charlie Chaplin being the tramp.

Well, I've liked Russell since the first time he interviewed Morrissey in Dec '06 and I've been listening to his radio show ever since. The vast majority of that time it was obvious that Russell was a huge fan of Morrissey but not the other way around. I can't speak for anybody else but Morrissey being a fan of Russell has nothing to do with me liking Russell, other than the fact that Moz was apparently fond of Russell enough to be on his radio show 18 months ago. I listened to the entire show waiting for Morrissey to be on and thought the whole show was funny, so I listened just about every week since then.
