Thanks in advance!:) mcrickson March 22, 2008, 05:24 PM FINALLY I GET TO PLUG SOME AMBIENT MUSIC! :D My good sir, hasten to listen to the melodicity of Constance Demby (www.constancedemby.com). Taking her place as the Beethoven and Strauss of her time, she dominates the field of new age classical ambience with much synthesized dexterity. ;) I love her. She should be moz's new keyboardist; take a listen and see if you do not agree with me!!! nugz March 22, 2008, 05:28 PM hmm. what about Sigur Ros? iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 05:48 PM FINALLY I GET TO PLUG SOME AMBIENT MUSIC! LMAO :D Actually I'm female, but that's okay! Thank you! I'll definitely check her out online! LOL you don't ever get a chance to plug ambient music? I have lots of Bach and Brahms but Beethoven is a little too tempestrous for me. Can you imagine trying to write with Wagner in the background, ha! Thanks again! :D iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 05:49 PM hmm. what about Sigur Ros? Hi! Actually I do have some Sigur Ros around here somewhere. I was also thinking of the Cocteau Twins. Thanks all the same :D nugz March 22, 2008, 05:51 PM Hi! Actually I do have some Sigur Ros around here somewhere. I was also thinking of the Cocteau Twins. Thanks all the same :D Cocteau Twins would be good too! nowherefast944 March 22, 2008, 05:53 PM Pantha Du Prince is pretty good. Pole is good, too. Corrissey March 22, 2008, 05:55 PM What about Enya? Tho I usually associate it with getting a massage or a facial :p It's soothing, spiritual music. iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 05:57 PM FINALLY I GET TO PLUG SOME AMBIENT MUSIC! :D My good sir, hasten to listen to the melodicity of Constance Demby (www.constancedemby.com). Now, let's see if Amazon has any of it! (probably nil) Cool! Thanks again!:D bysshe March 22, 2008, 05:58 PM I like Massive Attack. Enya and Clannad are nice, as well. iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 05:58 PM Pantha Du Prince is pretty good. Pole is good, too. Thanks for the recommendations! I'm gonna be broke after I purchase these! :D But that's okay; anything to help my writer's block. :( iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 06:12 PM What about Enya? Tho I usually associate it with getting a massage or a facial :p It's soothing, spiritual music. DOH! Enya is perfect! Wah, I want a facial! :) Though I bought this Japanese peel off facial mask and it's BLACK. Does the job though. Maybe your dentist will play it during the procedure :p iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 07:29 PM Maybe your dentist will play it during the procedure :p Corrissey, lol! I guess Enya isn't for everyone. Julee Cruise is good as well, (NOW I'm remembering what CD's I own!) Mazzy Star (don't hurl) would be ok too. I appreciate these ideas! hatfull March 22, 2008, 07:32 PM I'm a writer, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any ambient, soothing background music to write by. Thanks in advance!:) well, it's not exactly ambient, but I highly reccoment Dead Can Dance, I find it very inspiring. It's hard to explain, quite medieval in feel, spiritual, transports me to an entirely different time. bysshe March 22, 2008, 07:33 PM Corrissey, lol! I guess Enya isn't for everyone. Julee Cruise is good as well, (NOW I'm remembering what CD's I own!) Mazzy Star (don't hurl) would be ok too. I appreciate these ideas! Has Julee Cruise done much since the Twin Peaks days? iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 07:35 PM Has Julee Cruise done much since the Twin Peaks days? Yes! I own her first CD, from the Twin Peaks soundtrack, and it's really good. I had JUST remembered her- I need to go through my CD's. She's perfect. I think she HAS done other things but I know she still works with David Lynch. iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 07:36 PM well, it's not exactly ambient, but I highly reccoment Dead Can Dance, I find it very inspiring. My list is getting progressively longer! iamkali62 March 22, 2008, 07:39 PM The BEST ambient music is, by far: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51FQAKEAB7L._AA240_.jpg DEVO??? I'm from the generation of, "Whip It" haha. Oingo Boingo's front man, Danny Elfman, has produced some music for films. Corrissey March 22, 2008, 07:39 PM Corrissey, lol! I guess Enya isn't for everyone. Julee Cruise is good as well, (NOW I'm remembering what CD's I own!) Mazzy Star (don't hurl) would be ok too. I appreciate these ideas! I don't own any Enya myself... but I do own The Sundays... speaking of Mazzy Star and Ambient music :) Coiffeur_En_Flame March 22, 2008, 07:39 PM Why is it that ambient music is inextricably linked with that most off-putting of monikers - "new age"? Personally, all I see when someone mentions that are dentists' waiting rooms, whales, incense sticks and women in headbands, sandals and weed-scented saris. The last time I heard Enya was in the elevator of the private hospital my nephew was in. I'm not normally a claustrophobic person, but all I could think was "when am I gonna get the fuck out of this lift!?" Had there not been other people present, I may well have prised the doors open with my bare hands and thrown myself down the 30-floor shaft. Anyway, my advice is to forget Enya and her ilk - there are plenty of whale-watching tours available at your local maritime port which eradicate the need for excessive exposure to Roland synthesizers. A far better, and socially acceptable, alternative is sadcore. I refer you to this thread (http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/showthread.php?t=58700), where our resident sadcore anorak Codreanu has uploaded a number of fine examples of the genre. Particularly recommended are Small Town Boredom, Tram and Red House Painters. Coiff. Cassius March 22, 2008, 07:54 PM Thanks for the recommendations! I'm gonna be broke after I purchase these! :D But that's okay; anything to help my writer's block. :( Whenever I have writer's block I watch movies. It seems odd, but movies always give me inspiration (I don't copy them or anything!). You might want to give it a try. Good luck getting over your block. :) I'm afraid I don't know anything about this kind of music. iamkali62 March 23, 2008, 01:43 AM Whenever I have writer's block I watch movies. Good luck getting over your block. :) I'm afraid I don't know anything about this kind of music. Cassius, that's actually a good idea there. What sort of movies do you watch, for inspiration's sake? I have IFC and should probably watch it more often. I have a poet friend who gets all of his inspiration from downloading pics - (no not THOSE kind) He tries to find still life shots; like a deserted wet street, or the face of a beautiful woman. It doesn't work for me, but he's bashed out reams of poems this way. Thanks for your vote of confidence! I have 8 of my favorite sketchbooks that I use as journals, and I need to get writing, damn it. Morrissey makes it look so damned easy. But of course, he's Special.:D iamkali62 March 23, 2008, 01:45 AM Why is it that ambient music is inextricably linked with that most off-putting of monikers - "new age"?
