I always wondered where the people that are in his band came from and just wondered if there was any info on them?
Thanks

he generally finds cheapish musicians prepared to wear uniforms, go veggie, and sign Non Disclosure Agreements. I get the feeling some ex-members were 'let go' because they wanted too much money or held their views too strongly about certain things. Make no mistake - Moz is The Boss here, and dissent is almost definitely not tolerated in the slightest.

Morrissey met Boz through Cathal "Chas" Smyth (Madness), then Boz introduced Alain, Gary and Spencer to Morrissey.
Current band members (Matt, Jesse, Mikey and Christopher) seems to gather through Merck's connections.

Elimination tournament.
Rounds are said to include interpretive dance, a ladder match and chuck the egg.

Nope, Aisle 4 is R&B backup singers and marimba specialists. Pop/rock band members are now in Aisle 6.

Don't forget "down in one."

I can't speak for the Walkers or Pooley, but that's incorrect for both Jesse or Mikey. They were both friends of Deano Butterworth, most likely from the sessions scene in LA.
Boz knew Alain since they were teens, but I'm almost positive that Alain introduced himself to Morrissey at the Camden Workers Social Club. They ended up on the same session (for Pregnant for the Last Time, Skin Storm, The Loop) at the same time, but, again, I'm fairly certain from one of Alain's interviews that he introduced himself. He was playing with Gary and Spencer in Born Bad at the time, so Alain introduced the other two to Morrissey. Boz joined the Kill Uncle tour only because Mark Nevin couldn't commit (though he got Mick Ronson in contact with Morrissey).
Cheers,
Jamie

I reckon Moz fancies Jesse
Everyone seems to think that
But then, people seem to think Moz fancies all his musicians, as if it's the deciding factor in their employment. Boz, Alain, Gary, Spencer, Jesse, Solomon, Johnny etc etc.

Matt Walker (Filter, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage) was brought in as a session drummer after his work on Bowie's "Heathen" album. When Visconti was called in to produce ROTT, the drum tracks were already recorded, so Matt was not a Visconti pick, tho he knows him pretty well. Someone else in Morrissey's organization must have chose him. Good call either way.

Though it is confusing since one Matt replaced another, Matt Chamberlain was the drummer on RotT, as well as Heathen and its follow-up Reality. He's also been the long-standing drummer for Tori Amos among many others. Chamberlain actually got his start as the drummer for Edie Brickell and New Bohemians way back in the late Eighties.
As to how Matt WALKER was picked, I seem to remember Boz writing about auditions in his diary from early 2006. This was the same way that Deano Butterworth was acquired (he answered an ad in Variety, if I'm remembering correctly).
Cheers,

At the beginning of the youtube version of the clip, it's cut off, but Gia says she can't interview Morrissey because he's "got things to do" and at the same time, Spencer puts his hand down his pants and rummages around quite obviously. "Things to do", eh :p

Where did you find Boz Boorer and when did he start to play with you?
Sofia
Mar del Plata, Argentina
I met Boz through a mutual friend, Cathal, who sings in the group Madness. I went through a period when I saw a lot of Cathal, he was a very close friend, and he introduced me to Boz because I had done an album called "Kill Uncle" which Cathal thought was rubbish..... and he wasn't necessarily wrong. He wanted me to move away from Mark Nevin who had co-written "Kill Uncle" which I was prepared to do because I didn't actually know Mark that well. So, Cathal saw Boz as a writing partner for me, but it has obviously developed into a long and precious friendship. Boz is perfect company as well as being very funny.

From advertising in the LA Weakly (see attached scans). This came out in 2002. Boz confirmed that they were indeed looking for a drummer when this advert was published.
http://www.morrissey-solo.com/articles/02/03/25/0635201.shtml
I can't believe this advert was a serious attempt to secure a drummer. I suspected it was a not-very-nice way to let Spike know his services were no longer desired and a way to solicit hours of possibly entertaining viddy from fans.
It's just coincidence, I know, but the drummer advert reminded me of something funny Moz said. Some years prior to that advert, i had given Moz something along with a photo of myself so he could put a face with the name. I was standing in front of a drum kit in the photo. I didn't actually play drums. I was just shifting some band's gear into our studio for a live broadcast when my station manager snapped the photo of me. Years later, during a (non-concert) conversation with me in 2002, Moz suddenly blurted out, "Drum kit!", meaning that that's the other association he had with me besides the two obvious ones. ;)
