Since I quit eating meat, the thought of it absolutely disgusts me now. I didn't stop eating meat because I thought the taste or smell of it was gross, but now I can barely smell it cooking without wanting to gag. I don't consider the people who eat it to be disgusting or have a problem with them, but I don't see why I ever ate it in the first place. I'm not sure if it is because I know so much more about the slaughterhouse process now or not, but I hardly ever have cravings for meat products anymore.

I also feel about ten times better without it. I read PETA's claims that it makes you feel a hundred percent better and figured that it was propoganda, but it actually is true. IT sounds strange, but I actually feel a little cleaner without it. I feel that I look and think better as well.

Have any of you guys felt similiarly after giving up meat?

You're back! I thought that you'd given up meeting us here.

As for a serious response, no, I don't actually remember any sea changes like that when I switched. Of course, that was when you were about 1.

are they paying you to say this?

If they are, then is it too late to edit what I just said?

I feel sick when I smell things like pork chops cooking.and liver !!!Ugh:sick:

Its rather like you`ve purified your system.A bit like when you are pregnant and every bad thing like cooking fat or anything bad for you smells disgusting.

I feel cleaner as well if i give up wheat for a week or so.

good luck with it and well done!:D

I quit eating meat recently. I sure don't miss "the heavy feeling" you get after eating meat, and I do feel better now. But no, nothing quite that revolutionary. At least not yet.

Actually for like the 2-3 months that I did stick to a strictly vegetarian diet last year, I did have that feeling. I thought it was just me, but after a few weeks I felt less bloated, more energetic and I think "cleaner" is the way to describe it. It was very weird and tough to describe, but my body and thinking didn't seem as sluggish as it normally does.

So of course, genius me went back to eating meat and look at me now.

Yes. I was very pleasantly surprised. I felt cleaner- almost on a cellular level, if that makes any sense. My skin got a clearer, pearly tone to it, too- very hard to describe. And I lost 20 pounds I'd been trying shake off. Yay veggies!

And yes, also meat reeks now. Can barely even stand walking past the meat section at the grocery store anymore- it just smells dead back there. Which it is.

I lost 10 pounds without even trying when I stopped eating red meat.

I'm really glad these testimonials have been posted. I've long been of the opinion that the animal rights/"meat is murder" line of reasoning is infinitely less effective than people coming forward with these kinds of stories.

Healthy, "clean" feeling? Check.

Skin tone improved? Check.

More energy? Check.

Clearer thinking? Check.

Lost weight? Check.

Why the heck wouldn't you switch?

(Laziness maybe?)

I haven't exactly experienced the "cleaner feeling" that many vegetarians have, but I have lost weight without even trying and that does help me feel somewhat "lighter." I have been eating buckets of chocolate chip cookies lately and I haven't gained the weight back. YAY! :D

I have always been disgusted by the lingering smells of food on clothing/hair (like when you go to a BBQ), but I do miss eating meat a tiny bit. I'm not giving myself the option to do it, so I'm just dealing with it.

I actually found that becoming vegetarian simplified my life in many ways...

-fewer choices to pick from on a menu (big plus for a girl who can't make up her mind :))
-not having to shop in the meat aisle in grocery (saves time, $ and yuck factor)
-no prep/cooking time

It's has been overall a very freeing experience, the health aspect is a bonus!

Well, see? There you go. It's a great thing. And it's an open secret. Why the popular distaste for veggies?

Can you imagine if Oprah went on TV and said, "Look, screw the gimmicks and the fad diets and the strange pills-- if y'all want to slim down, feel great, look better, have more energy-- and by the way, live with a clear conscience-- all you have to do is buy your groceries from one part of the market and avoid the other"? And the camera cuts to glowing audience members looking at each other in surprise, nodding delightedly?

No, I can't imagine that happening either. Why is that?

Well, hell, if I hadn't already switched, that slogan would definitely have tipped me over the edge. Come to think of it, it's making me think of tipping my head over the edge of my wastebasket...

Because, being Oprah, that "one part of the market" is probably the snack aisle.

I've been a veggie for around 15yrs and I can't stand the sight of meat. Mom will be cooking some crap and the smell makes me sick. It's so gross now and I'm so glad I no longer eat it. Could never eat meat again.

Just by giving up meat, no. But by replacing meat with fish, yes! The difference is amazing. I'm able to focus better and whatnot. Also, by avoiding processed food at all costs. Except chocolate

I'm not really that big a meat eater - when I'm at university I don't eat it much because its quite expensive for a limited budget. However, around Xmas time, I saw one particular BBC program which had a feature on meat at christmas, a load of people salivating over duck, goose and turkey. The way they described the meat, it's texture, colour and killing and preparing methods disgusted me completely, despite the fact it was intended to do the opposite. I've never felt so sick and since then, it's been just vegetables for me, and I do feel a lot better for it.

i think its a mentality. I went back to eating meat again already. missed my cuban sandwich too much :( still trying to back off the meat as much as possible (using a lot more boca)

my husband was veg for a year and said he never felt cleaner or healthier or whatnot and meat still smelled hella good on the grill :)

i think the people who will feel the most benefits are people who eat way too much red meat and fats and stuff in the first place. not you obviously cassie but maybe obese people who've never really ate healthy and included green things in their meals.
