First up... I did not take this one, but found it while viewing some other photos on Flickr. It reminded me of Suparni's barn photo!

A lot of these are amazing. However... you should give them the seedy underbelly of Long Island life. Such topics include
1 - The mall walkers at Roosevelt Field.
2 - The difference between Stewart Avenue as you go from Garden City to Hempstead. (Giant shrubbery fences closing in expensive homes to check cashing, bodega, gun store and liquor store)
3 - How Amityville High School looks like a prison from the outside.
4 - Massapequa Massapequa Massapequa in all of it's glory
5 - On a serious note Old Bethpage Restoration Village
6 - Jones Beach Field 4 during "Greek Week" and the police security that goes along with it.

99% of my photos are on b&w film. I need in scan in the prints. The first photo is film, the others digital. Nothing beats a photo that was printed in the darkroom. I spent many many hours in there with my Moz/Smiths music. Goodtimes:)

There is so much I like about this photo... First - light. It is a good time of day in terms of the position of the sun and the mist down on the ground - something about morning dew. I love that there are silhouettes in layers.... layers of silhouette and the mist makes it all dreamy - the light combined with layers of silhouette, mist, and general dreaminess makes one wonder where those people are headed and what they are thinking or what their faces look like - I admit one does half expect an elf or peter pan or mythical appearance to them... and for me that is FANTASTIC and HALF expectation of this is just enough... because one can at the same time imagine this is happening in our everyday world... and it is nice when those two worlds kind of rub up against one another - nice work.

thanks for starting this thread Pregs, it's like therapy, connection to the outside world - healthy sharing for me because as you may have noticed from my recent work (dairy barn and the castle shed self portraits) I was starting to drift into la la land where I feel a little bit disconnected and incapable and strange and unable to connect with people... maybe even a bit depressed... winter i guess.

Well, I felt the warnings of a potential breakdown coming on a few moths ago. Just a feeling I have come to recognize ;) - like filling up with helium and drifting away. Not that these spaces are not interesting and beautiful, but they do not fit into daily western everyday living from what I have seen... skipping work to ride your bike all day too many days in a row just doesn't work out. So I booked a few vacations so I could allow my mental vacation to happen smoothly.
I dove into SMiLE in the past few days and perhaps because I am a bit helium right now, I wanted to make a visual sequence to accompany it. It is probably a project that would drive me into lala land so its a good thing I don't have time for it and I am being shipped off to the beaches of fiji instead. I did however make one slideshow with video ending to Surf's up... in celebration of my departure.
ciao all... I fly out tomorrow... just a few hours before the noreaster is supposed to hit! :)
I did not have time to create anything for the first minute or so, so I just left it black.

No. I need to get organised with this. Over the years, the music, video and photos I've lost is just too much to think about. If I don't get things sorted, it will happen again and I can't take, well, pretty much anything.

oooh thanks Corrissey, the airline had to delay my flight back so we were sent to a beach resort to wait for the next flight the following day. We complained at first but me and about 15 other youngish people ended up realizing we were sitting by a pool overlooking the islands and blue clear water... ended up partying and having lunch on the airline vouchers they gave us - hitting the bar at the airport playing drinking games and we nearly missed our flight to LA... we celebrated New Years on board until we heard the announcement over the speaker "there are rather severe penalties for congregating anywhere on the aircraft, please do not congregate anywhere in the aircraft, do not switch seats with other passengers and do not occupy any other seat than the one you were assigned."

To make this Moz related, this is the Mission San Jose located in San Antonio, Texas, which Oscar Wilde visited (as well as the Alamo) in 1882 while on his U.S. lecture tour. Oscar particularly liked the door and the window of the mission calling it, "the finest he had seen in America." The picture is the Rose Window which he was referring to. As soon as I found that Oscar Wilde had been in MY city, I had to trace his footsteps! I was also extremely happy to find out that San Antonio was very memorable for him. Now I feel bad for complaining about my city:o:D Sorry for the history lesson!

This was in 04. Though I'm sure they have had to replace the sign at some point. Morrissey not's that popular in northern Indiana. I went to the show in South Bend and there had to have been like 500?? there. I'll admit I tried but it was in cement so wasn't going anywhere.

Hello there! and thanks for the request. India was incredible and amazing and I think it would be amazing for just about anybody where I went. Unfortunately I did not pick up my camera even once - I spent the entire time intensely involved with a Tai Chi sword and learning the sword form.
but I am reading this at the moment and thought you might like the quote. Sometimes returning from a trip is like returning from a dream... but this time it feels as if I can integrate some of what I feel and practice there... into my everyday living... nonetheless an acute appreciation for all things deep and beautiful seems to be upon me- hence my quoting Mr. Oscar Wilde today:
"There are few of us who have not sometimes wakened before dawn, either after one of those dreamless nights that make us almost enamoured of death, or one of those nights of horror and misshapen joy, when through the chambers of the brain sweep phantoms more terrible than reality itself, and instinct with that vivid life that lurks in all grotesques, and that lends to Gothic art its enduring vitality, this art being, one might fancy, especially the art of those whose minds have been troubled with the malady of reverie. Gradually white fingers creep through the curtains, and they appear to tremble. In black fantastic shapes, dumb shadows crawl into the corners of the room and crouch there. Outside, there is the stirring of birds among the leaves, or the sound of men going forth to their work, or the sigh and sob of the wind coming down from the hills and wandering round the silent house, as though it feared to wake the sleepers and yet must needs call forth sleep from her purple cave. Veil after veil of thin dusky gauze is lifted, and by degrees the forms and colours of things are restored to them, and we watch the dawn remaking the world in its antique pattern. The wan mirrors get back their mimic life. The flameless tapers stand where we had left them, and beside them lies the half-cut book that we had been studying, or the wired flower that we had worn at the ball, or the letter that we had been afraid to read, or that we had read too often. Nothing seems to us changed. Out of the unreal shadows of the night comes back the real life that we had known. We have to resume it where we had left off, and there steals over us a terrible sense of the necessity for the continuance of energy in the same wearisome round of stereotyped habits, or a wild longing, it may be, that our eyelids might open some morning upon a world that had been refashioned anew in the darkness for our pleasure, a world in which things would have fresh shapes and colours, and be changed, or have other secrets, a world in which the past would have little or no place, or survive, at any rate, in no conscious form of obligation or regret, the remembrance even of joy having its bitterness and the memories of pleasure their pain."

Two of my favorite pics from a trip to Peru...

Two kids living in a village in the middle of nowhere (deep in the Amazon rainforest) who peeked into our riverboat to smile shyly at us. If I don't have kids of my own, I'm going to try to adopt a baby from Peru. :)

I am not posting this cause its a brilliant pic or anything. I took it today on my mobile and I just like it. It is where I grew up, my parents still live there. You can see my dad (he who has taken most of the pics I have shared in this thread) and son on the bridge.

I love this thread ... lots of great pics.
I stumbled upon this intriguingly strange store window twice in Rome ... photos are taken 5 years apart. It was interesting to see how the arrangement of doll parts had changed.

Sadly no ... it was closed both times I was there. I'll be sure to photograph it again next time I'm in Rome. Hopefully it will be open then.

The sky looked amazing about an hour and a half ago.
Took this on me cell phone.
(The LG Voyager has a damn good camera!! I can only imagine what this would look like on a professional camera.)
They're all very similar, but still different.

Thank you. I am quite pleased with them!! The sky wasn't actually purple, more white-ish, and kinda gray with the sun behind the clouds. But with the darkness from it being a camera on a phone, I think it looks even cooler.
I love you're flowers! They're beautiful.
I'll have to take some photos of my backyard....flowers galore!
