I've been marathoning it since a week ago trying to catch up for when the WGA strike is over I'll be on the right page.
Also I just realised I do a dead-on Jim Halpert.
Anyone else watch it? I searched because I think I asked this once, but I couldnt find it. The search brought up a lot of random crap and one read-only.

nah, the british version was quite good (not as good as it was made out to be) and I'm not interested in the idea of the American one.

I have seen snippets but not whole episodes.

someone at work did say to me that they were watching a film called Dan in Real Life, and the Steve Carell character reminded her of me!

is this good or bad?

I watched the first season of the UK version on DVD, and loved it. But I rarely watch TV, so I've only seen a couple bits and pieces of the US one. I like Steve Carrell's movies, though.

the uk version just makes this completely redundant.
Same joke formats. Less Subtle. Not as well performed.

season 1 of the US version was harder to watch. 2 and 3 are great. I love it.

I heard a rumor that they will be having a meeting on monday to iron out some of the problems. im crossing my fingers!

aw nugz i lurve yew <3
so i came up with a storyline for my character as Jim's sister! Its complicated a la "the office" type of writing.
Man am I bored!

it is this:Jim gets his sister hired on as either a temp or some sort of contractor. Jim and his sister come up with a plan that she comes in as a deaf person. in talking heads, she or jim can reveal that they are CODAs, or children of deaf adults, ie their mom is deaf, so they know sign language (this would also explain Jim and his sister's ability to over-express a feeling or emotion, because people that use ASL do a lot of facial expressions with sign). See, thats a decent premise. So, so many things can go wrong for Michael. hee hee hee. huge prank. and it can land on the side of deaf/hoh people bc ignorances can be unveiled that many people hold, and maybe can change the way folks look at deaf/hoh folk. or totally not work and get a lot of people mad.

maybe she should just prank Jim by coming in dressed very much like Pam, to creep Pam out and make her think Jim is attracted to her because she looks like his sister. Hehehe that is totally something I would do in real life.

I liked the original, but I've never seen the US version. I haven't watch TV for the past couple of years. I just never subscribed to cable when I moved, but I do like youtube and some internet tv sites.

It's uncanny.

I watched the first few eps where they copied the UK version word for word which was rubbish!

Once you get past that it's one of the best American comedies i've ever seen! Gets better and better each week and i bet Ricky and Steve wish they had kept their version going a bit longer!

I'm not exactly sure, but I think one of the original creators helped to adapt it to US tv, so that must be why it was a word-for-word episode?

The first few episodes of the US version were nothing more than a bad imitation of the original UK show. After that, though, it became its own show, and I like it much better than the UK version. (I don't think I've ever said that about a US version of something from the UK before.)

Steve Carrell is great, as is the Dwight Schrute character.

Maybe so, but that probably didnt matter since most Americans hadn't seen the Office (UK). And frankly those are my least favorite episodes...

Brian Posehn, David Cross and co are the equivalent to The Smiths, whereas Dane Cook and crew is the equivalent to Aerosmith. Dane and co are shiny and loud but basically garner very little talent, unless you're a frat boy and your into talentless duuuudes.

Aerosmith have plenty of talent. they just sold out to try to make pop hits, and started imitating their imitators. I haven't listened to them in years and they do lots of annoying things, but some of their music, like the album Rocks, is as good as any hard rock.

I saw it for the first time a couple nights ago, and it was just okay. I don't watch much tv at all, but I have season 1 of Gervais's version and it is, well, hilarious. Definitely recommend it over the American version, but maybe only because I prefer gervais over Steve Carrell... the American version seems to be well written, from the short amount that I saw.

I hear Robin Williams steals jokes too but not on purpose - that it is more along the lines that his brain does not have a trap door and just repeats and retells everything he encounters that he finds amusing.

Mencia not only steals jokes, some of the ones he uses are so generic, racist and boring I am seriously surprised he has his own show. Comedy has been watered down by these fratty comics and its really sad.

I have heard from many comics on the circuit how Williams will go into open mics with a friggin notepad. He's actually banned from one place, I think its the comedy store. He's just as bad as mencia, he's just been around longer.

Sadly what makes Williams funny to people is really his mental disorder. He's bipolar and the mania is what is amusing.

I love the lyrics in the first verse of this song, they are quite fitting to me. I was gonna post them as my sig but they're way to long, no-one would read them an they're lost without the music and the shouting.

Can you recommend me any similar bands? I don't hear of many bands like this in the UK.

Yes! I didn't think anyone else watched 6 Feet Under and the Office. Rainn as Arthur was pretty funny. He played that role very well. The well mannored, respectful creepster. Unlike the nerdy and rude creepster that is Dwight, haha!

I waited in line at the Steamtown Mall in Scranton for hours to meet Rainn but there about 10,000 people in front of me so I wasn't able actually meet him. It was such a crushing defeat.

By the way for all who are interested, the show is very accurate to Scranton. The footage used in the opening credits (although the "Welcome to Scranton" sign has since been updated) the references to Alfredo's pizza, the Abe's deli menu on the fridge in the kitchen...just about everything they say or show, having to do with Scranton is 100% accurate.

(Have I mentioned that I love Scranton? :p)

And that makes me happy being a very proud graduate of The University of Scranton, class of 05! Go Royals!!! :D

I remember when Rainn was on my fave HBO series, Six Feet Under as Arthur -what a great, creepy role. He is awesome on the Office. And I love Steve Carrell -better here than any movies he makes (except for 40 yr old Virgin) and I crack up at the Stanley character. He's from Chicago too. Represent!

Notice my custom user title...a reference to this show =o)
I never saw him on six feet under, i didnt watch it enough. i love stanley too and when he makes his eyes real big. and in the episode where they throw andy's cellphone into the ceiling above his head, thats one of my fave stanley moments because he looks up and then has a look on his face like, "Jim." and just goes back to work, ahhahaha!
oh! anyone remember the episode where there was a bat in the ceiling?? haha, it flew out and the blonde chick (i forget her name, Dwights g/f) starts doing "stop, drop, and roll!" hahaha.
I didnt think anyone else noticed that, I almost cried while she was slowly rolling around on the ground!
Ha! Yeah that was funny! (his GF is -or was!- Angela) What about the episode, "Fun Run"?! :D Jim: I don’t have a ton of contact with the Scranton branch, but before I left, I took a box of Dwight’s stationery, so from time to time I send Dwight faxes. From himself. From the future.

Dwight: [reading fax] "Dwight, at 8am today, someone poisons the coffee. Do not drink the coffee. More instructions will follow. Cordially, Future Dwight."

[Dwight spots Stanley about to drink a cup of coffee]
Dwight: Noooooooooo! [smacks the cup out of Stanley's hands] You'll thank me later.

HA HA HA ~ Future Dwight. Love it.
That, I think, is the BEST Jim prank on Dwight. I had to watch it a few times. also had to rewind a couple times when Andy's phone was in the ceiling and Jim was callng it WHILE Andy was getting pwned by Michael, and Andy goes bonkers and punches the wall, and Jim looks at the cam and hangs up- that look was so freakin priceless. I thoroughly enjoyed that three seconds!!

Except that THere is no scranton Chili's or Hooters and they are at least 45 minutes away!

(Have I mentioned that I love Scranton? :p)

And that makes me happy being a very proud graduate of The University of Scranton, class of 05! Go Royals!!! :D

Yeah yeah I know via facebook! Im so jealous !!!

The British version is better but the U.S. sitcom is great in its own right too. Two big reasons the British version is better: Ricky Gervais gives one of the all-time great comic performances and the U.S. version unwisely focuses too much on Pam and Jim in a lame attempt by NBC to recreate the Ross/Rachel dynamic from "Friends". Anyway, I'm a fan of both.

The Pam/Jim thing is about the only part I don't like. I think they're annoying.

Ricky Gervais is great but so is Steve Carrell, and Dwight, Creed, Stanley, Angela, Toby, the former boss/current girlfriend and other characters I think make the American version overall better.

Ultimately, though, it really doesn't matter which is better. I'm glad they're both good, given the lack of programming that isn't total crap.

I watched the rerun last night "Back from Vacation" where Michael and Jan go to Jamaica and he accidentally emails the pic of her half naked to "packaging" instead of "packard (friend)" and well, you know the rest.

Michael Scott: I did see Jan in Jamaica... in our room... at night... and in the morning... and that's all I'm going to say... sex... we had sex... I had sex with her... I had sex with Jan.

What's everyone's thoughts on Dwight and Angela? Since she is kind of seeing Andy now, is Dwight totally out of the picture? Apparently she said "Oh D" while while Andy so maybe they will get back together?

As funny as it was in previous seasons seeing them sneak around about their relationship, I loved watching them fight just before the break up.

But it's pretty sad to see Dwight so upset over it. :(

I must obviously be subconsciously in love with Rainn Wilson. I had a dream last night that I ran into many of the cast members of The Office while in the Hot Topic at the Steamtown mall in Scranton. I first noticed “Dwight” but he wasn’t in character. It was Rainn Wilson in his sexy indie glasses etc. I was swooning over him until stupid Ryan Howard comes up and starts talking to me and asking me if he can “im” me sometime.

I was outraged as he totally ruined my chances with Dwight/Rainn!!!

I enjoyed Jan's ridiculous/weird old lady dancing to Hunter's song. She was so into it. I bet she thinks he wrote the song for her. Was he saying "Jan" in the song?

I think their game of "celebrities" was pretty funny too. I love when Jim messes with Michael and acts like he has no idea what he's talking about.

"First name is Tom, and he likes to go on cruises...";)

OMG! I can't stand Jan. She's such an annoying tramp. Why can't Michael date a better woman?

Oh, she's perfect. They make a lolzable dysfunctional couple. Something tells me -if just solely off that episode- that they wont last long. I think it'd be funnier to throw him back into the dating pool. Comedy gold :)

It is getting pretty weird. I think the funniest part of this episode was Pam's glasses. I also enjoyed Kevin's commentary as always.

But Toby is a jerk, Stanely apparently is a jerk too, and Michael FINALLY grew a pair and had a real conversation by the end of it.

It is strange lately though I do agree.

I can't wait for tonight's episode!!!

Me neither!!! Although I will only be able to download it tomorrow...

I think the thing behind Pam looking for another job is that she wanted it but when she came back to the office (the scenes were not chronological) and found out that Jim managed to get that big client and Jim publicly kissed her in the office made her realize that Jim wouldn't be leaving anytime soon and that she will decide to stay herself.

And I think Toby's character will leave the series because he is of course in love with Pam and very jealous of her relationship with Jim and the whole PDA-thing didn't have any effect. But he will never say that to everybody's face and he will make something up about not getting along with Michael and Michael always being in his face. And let's be honest - Pam would never leave Jim for Toby (he's no knight in shining armor) and Michael picking on Toby is getting a little old now - so there is hardly any development left for his character.

But as usual, I might be totally wrong about all this! :p

"Weight Loss" - September 25, 2008
For the first time, we see what happens over eight weeks of the summer, as a Dunder Mifflin weight loss initiative causes the branch to diet and become obsessed with their weight. Michael pursues a friendship with his new HR rep, Holly. Jim misses Pam who attends art school in New York. Dwight, Andy and Angela attend to unfinished business.

The American David Brent is too likeable and you can watch him without cringing. Also "Gareth Keenan" isn't as funny in the American version.

The US will never be able to top the Comic Relief episode. "Oh, how could you hide a chair?!"

I've seen both versions and I'm not on fire about either of them.

My current favourite show is Burn Notice.

While sitting at my desk in my mind numbingly boring office job, I heard someone say to someone else "don't forget to use the strap". I have no idea what they were talking about or the context of the statement but I ended up saying very loudly "...tttttthats what she said!" with out explaination. I knew I didn't want to say it, let alone loudly enough for others to hear but it blurted its way out of my mouth uncontrollably.

This guy would be proud...

I LMAO!!!

Ryan, Michael and Dwight growing/shaving the goatees! :p

The party with the party hats and the fruit and bottled water!

Jim proposing to Pam, awwww! :o

Kelly with the cleanse diet and the "tapeworm"!

Holly and Michael with the Counting Crows tickets.

Toby in the hospital!

Ryan the temp at the reception desk.

Dwight replacing the candy with fruit in the candy machine.

Pam on cam on the chair!

Under my Angerella-ella-ella!

Dwight throwing Phyllis out of the car and having her walk back to the office!

What the hell was wrong with Meredith's face?

Michael and Holly rapping!

"Dundler Mifflin, this is Ronny."

Holly finding out Kevin is actually "normal".

Andy trying so hard to make everything perfect for Angela and her sleeping with Dwight behind Andy's back! Angela, you slut!

But the best part was Jim's proposal, it was almost drowned out by the traffic and the rain. :o It was a beautiful scene. *sigh*

sorry about the spolier..

my favorite line from last night and one of my top ever was Kevin to Holly

"Wait back up. Do you think that I'm retarded?"

I have a feeling we may see Karen come in to take Ryan's place as Micahel's new boss.

Jose
September 26, 2008, 07:18 PM

Also, Michael about the weight loss: "you are all gigantic losers!" :D

I'm not a fan of Steve's movies but I find the character of Michael Scott quite funny. I've seen Ricky Gervais do stand up and had a good laugh but the Office UK bored me to tears.

Nope, I'm sorry. I just don't think Steve Carell is funny.

anyway, im glad how they did it. nice and simple. unexpected (if you didnt know before hand ) ...but they totally alluded to the fact that there'd be problems cuz Pam was gettin cozy with that dude at school, no Pam no!!!

Michael is an idiiot! again!!! grrrr

I think I laughed the loudest at the part where they showed Phyllis catching Dwight and Angela doin it in the warehouse cuz the look on Dwight's face was fucking priceless!!

p.s. "I hate this worm inside me!" hahahhaa
