Damn! I was hoping that this thread was a resuscitation of the Beatles bootlegs thread (http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/showthread.php?t=67541), but alas, it's just pics. I'll try to post some Wings outtakes, circa 1975, to rectify that. Poor substitute, I know.

There were some excellent ones posted on that thread. I have a handful, but I've only digitized one, another one has been superceded by the Anthology, and a third is one of those multi-disc collections of outtakes from the Get Back sessions. Good, but not crucial.

I went through my Beatles phase when I was a freshman in high school. I still like them, but I'm not nearly as crazy about them now as I used to be.

One of the most amazing concerts I've ever attended (along with the two Morrissey shows I've been to :D) was Paul McCartney on his "Driving USA Tour". I was sitting in one of the balconies, almost directly above his head. He played almost non-stop, shifting between the bass and the piano. He was unstoppable.

But, but, the skeletal hands trying to grab Paul in that pic on the White Album poster? The "28 IF" license plate on the cover of Abbey Road? I know you don't have a record player, so you can't have played the bit at the end of "I'm So Tired" backwards--it's all there, man. You don't think that there's something to it? ;)

And from what I remember, Paul actually asked Klaus Voorman to help with the 'Revolver' artwork so the vendetta idea is bizarre :p

The first song I actually remember knowing the words to was "A Day in the Life". On the classic rock station in philly they do this program on sunday mornings called Breakfast with the Beatles. I used to listen to this with my mom every sunday morning since I was very very young.

I guess "A Day in the Life" is one of my first actual memories which is something I feel blessed to have.

I really got into the Beatles around the age of 13. Insisted people refer to me as John, and wanted my bed bulit into the floor and everything. Haha! oi! Then when I got a little older and started doing drugs I found a great love in Magical Mystery Tour ;)

But I do love them. I still feel like a giddy little kid whenever I watch their films.

Indeed you are correct. John's bed was sunken into the floor somehow. My friends and I tried to figure out how to make it work. We abandoned the plan when we realized major construction and money were to be involved. Oh well.

The Beatles were responsible for one of the only infractions I ever got in school. I wrote a 15-page paper about them for my 8th grade music class, and it was judged the best paper and so I got to read it to the class and play one of their songs. But two things went horribly wrong in the process: my music teacher had to take maternity leave before it was my turn to read the paper, and I selected "The Ballad of John and Yoko" as my song. The substitute teacher was Mrs. Catholic McGuilticuddy, and when she heard the "Christ, you know it ain't easy," she had an apoplectic fit and told me to stop the tape immediately. I gave her a look of pure disgust and blurted you, "You SLIME!" I even remember trying to explain to the principal that "slime" was a term of good-natured ribbing amongst the kids, but he was having none of that. "You SLIME!" became my catch phrase for the next few years.

That is all.

I thought that it was a pretty stupid movie, myself. I'd rather watch Magical Mystery Tour, or at least bits of it. And that was when I was a teenager and had a higher tolerance for goofiness; I can't imagine watching it now. A Hard Day's Night is sublime, though.

Ah, no. The kids in my class were writing papers about Motley Crue & Quiet Riot. I proudly bore the stigma of being the lone Beatles fan all the way through high school graduation. Maybe The Beatles are more popular with teenagers now than they were in the late 80s, or maybe my school was just a backwater. Probably both.

9.9 hours, to be exact. I've been obsessed with compiling lists like this for over 20 years. I used to have all 217 songs spread out over 6 1/2 cassette tapes, with meticulous notes as to when each song was first released and where, labels & catalog numbers, etc. Now I can do all that in iTunes. ;) That's how I can tell you that yesterday was the 23rd anniversary of the release of Beatles for Sale in the UK, and 2 days ago it was the 22nd for Rubber Soul. :D

I also have these master lists for The Smiths, The Cure, Sinead O'Connor, etc.

No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people

Imagine there's no countries

Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Man, I've seen some shitty depictions of The Beatles, but if that's supposed to be Ringo on the left, then I'm Ron Paul. Looks more like JFK on a bad day. Come to think of it, John looks like a dark-haired Donald Trump.

Cute reason to bump this thread...(and in honor of virtie’s bday =o)

My daughter told me this morning that in their music class yesterday, the teacher taught them “Across the Universe”.
She said to him “my Mom likes the Beatles!” (no, she hasn’t mentioned Morrissey. Yet! :p)

Skool is cool kidz

Mine sure wasn't; you heard my "slime" story, right? But in high school, my hippy, Liberation Theology-obsessed nun teacher let me play George Harrison's "Run of the Mill" in class, and thanked me profusely for picking such an excellent song. Here's to small victories.

Man, if the Beatles' depress your kids, I dread to think what the Smiths will do to them

Well, the twins are just hyper-sensitive to it right now. It doesn't help that one of their namesake songs has the line "every girl I've ever had breaks my heart and leaves me sad." I can't not sing the whole song, ya know? K was sensitive to it, too, when she was that age, but now she loves all the Beatles stuff she's heard.

hmmm... "1" is a pretty 'safe' record.

Hmmm, they do like "Ask." I don't listen to much Smiffs/Moz around them. Maybe when they're older and start wearing black lipstick or something. :D

I was researching Wilde earlier, and I found a quote from his lover Alfred Douglas, who described him at one point as "hand in glove with all the little boys on the Boulevard". Is this where our Moz got his song inspiration from?

Note that I didn't find release dates for "Sie Liebt Dich" or the WWF version of "Across the Universe." I know that I had them at one time, but I guess I never bothered to look them up again when I put them in iTunes. You'll live.

That's from all 13 studio albums, plus Past Masters 1 & 2. I tried to attach the iTunes playlist for anyone who wants to import it, but it exceeds the max upload size. :( Maybe I'll put it on my Web site later.

When I first saw that, I was like "What the hell is Paul McCartney doing mashing potatoes?!" :p

What's rarer than a tree-dwelling red-footed boobie?:

He sounds a little bit like Morrissey when he speaks, maybe it's his deep voice?

I find it hard to believe Paul McCartney is 65 he looks so good for his age.

I don't hear any resemblance

True, but I think it's mostly down to hair dye unfortunately...he looked very weathered in the divorce photographs anyway, unsurprisingly
