View Full Version : What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Not Right in the Head November 12, 2007, 07:57 PM Summer may be over (at least for those of us in the northern half of the world), but in honor of hatfull's students (http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/showpost.php?p=695570&postcount=40004), let's do our own poll. Unlike them, you can vote for multiple flavors.

El Manzo November 12, 2007, 08:02 PM What is Bubble gum
El Manzo November 12, 2007, 08:07 PM Is bubble gum a popular ice cream flavor? Yuck! I rather eat the garlic flavored (okay, maybe not).
Right! Next thing a 'Mayonnaise Soda'.
Uhm, I remember that old Lou Reed tune, from 'Magic & Loss'...
Not Right in the Head November 12, 2007, 08:07 PM What is Bubble gum
It has little bits of rock-hard bubble gum in it. It's a big hit with kids in America, but they usually grow out of it at the onset of puberty. I hope.

In 1993, my part of the world got hit with a 500-year flood. Ben & Jerry's donated two semi trucks' worth of free factory-reject ice cream. My roommates & I made off with something like 5 cases (60 1-pint cartons), and one of the cartons was Apple Pie flavor--they literally just sliced up apple pies and dumped them into the mix. It was the best thing I ever tasted, but that flavor went to the graveyard (http://www.benjerry.com/halloween/flavor_graveyard.cfm) shortly thereafter. I still miss it something fierce.

They're growing in popularity here in the US, too. But it can go too far--there were some downright nasty flavors (eel?!?) that those Iron Chefs concocted!

lottie November 12, 2007, 10:03 PM i have this argument all the time at work, so to prove im right,

Custard meaning pudding meaning mousse, right? In the US, custard is always egg-based; in fact, in the better parts of the country, you can buy ice custard as well as ice cream. It's much tastier.
By pudding, I mean this:

um yes, i think, i mean the liquid custard stuff, think 'birds custard powder' not the EGG custard type.
AnotherThornAnotherSide November 12, 2007, 10:20 PM Speaking of custard/mousse, does anyone remember when Haagen Dazs had a limited run of Vanilla Mousse ice cream? I swear, I went through a carton of it every two days until they stopped making it, at which point I suffered severe withdrawals. I still have the vague hope that I'll find a leftover carton of it every time I wander into a new grocery store.
Forget heroin; forget nicotine; Vanilla Mousse Haagen Dazs is the most addictive substance known to humankind.
eVe's Dad November 12, 2007, 10:24 PM Frusen Glage Vanilla !
I've not seen any in years though . Do they even still make it ?

No. *sob* I spent weeks after it went out of production digging through every last ice cream carton that had a vanilla bean on it. Ohh, the heart-ache that I went through when I would find a carton with frost covering the flavor name. A brief flicker of hope -- dashed as soon as I rubbed off the ice particles with my greedy little fingers.
[insert a long, wistful sigh, followed by a few moments spent staring off into the middle distance]

MsChievous November 12, 2007, 11:48 PM Ben and Jerrys "Cherry Garcia". Unforetunately when I hit 40 I started having issues with certain dairy products, ice cream being the worst of the lot. Green tea mochi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mochi_ice_cream) is my friend now, think it's because the servings are so small.
Kewpie November 13, 2007, 09:04 AM Does anyone remember Bill Forsyth's film Comfort and Joy?
It's about a turf war of ice cream sellers in Glasgow.
Hollywood remake material indeed. ;)
