I am planning to tattoo "MORRISSEY" in capital letters on my right forearm. I am not sure about the typeface though. But it has to be a serif. Maybe garamond or bodoni.
I like them both.

Thanks so much for your help everyone! So, the night I posted this I had some vodka, rode with a friend to the tattoo shop, I pulled this thread up at the the shop on his laptop, they made a transfer of the grahic, and then I got mutilated for an hour! Yes, it hurt. I was in a hurry when I typed the thread title, so.. yes, I misspelled it. That is me in the avatar with Morrissey's tour bus in background in Ventura, CA. I'll post a better photo of it later. The attachment manager is on the fritz so I'm going to post the IMG tags, sorry.

Yeah you say that now, but what if someday you meet someone great and you *do* want to get married? You'll regret getting that slogan emblazoned across your back.
The only Moz-related tattoo I'd consider getting is the M crest, because my own name starts with M. I guess I'm not as committed as you lot.
P.S. Usually when a woman is called handsome (and it is rare), the implication is that she's either old and/or masculine-looking.

Not really. Although, it's less common today to hear it refer to anything other than a good-looking man, it can, and is, used to refer to other things. It has two general meanings: good-looking, and generous. The former is used to refer to men, women, interiors, houses, architecture, and so on...
I've heard it used to refer to women, although it admittedly sounds out-dated. I recall that there are at least two instances of handsome referring to a woman in Dorothy Parker's writings. I see no reason why you can't use it to refer to a woman, though, or get a tattoo alluding to such if that's what you want.

No. I will never marry. Marriage is a corrupt set of laws that are inherently biased towards one side. It's a legal agreement, and a faulty one, at that. I will most certainly not 'marry'. Not ever.
Besides, I am celibate and alone. I have no plans to ever be with anybody and the slogan sums me up very well.

To those who have tattoos. Do you ever experience rashes or irritation of the area to where the tattoo was applied or does it just stay sore a while after it has been done? I noticed this picture along with a couple of others and it makes me slightly skeptical about getting one unless of course this has been taken just after the tattoo has been applied:

It is always red and sore for at least a day after the tattoo is done. When it is healing it is quite itchy too and it scabs up and they always tell you not to pick it but i cant help it lol, so i picked mine. You can buy tattoo healing cream from tattoo shops but savlon works just as well :)

That looks fresh, and just fucking huge, so that's probably why it looks so horrid. The worst part is the itching. the actual tattoo itself isn't that painfull imo, depending on where you get it. places under the arm, elbow, neck, etc. do hurt more obviously. I kind of like the whole feeling.

i saw a great one recently i met a couple wo i dont know in front of the roundhouse venue in london in the cause of being from rom the same country and to numb their dissapointment we decided to go to nearby pub for a few drinks (they did fly over for the cancelled saturday gig ) so we went to the nearest pub where for some reason the conversation came to tatoos ..so the man ( pretty tough looking) showed me his tatoo on his chest ...he had a picture of his cat (who had died not long ago) and below the pic he had the line
SWEET AND TENDER HOOLICAT
inspired by the smithssong "sweet and tender hooligan" of course
nice idea !

Great story!
I wouldn't be so embarrassed because tattoos, especially Moz/Smiffs ones, should be seen! What's the point of getting a tattoo that isn't seen? I especially don't understand tramp stamp type of tattoos where the owner can't see it without the aid of a mirror. Feck, if I had undergone something as painful, I damn well want to look at it whenever I please.

I worked with a girl once. Her name was Myra. So sweet, polite, reserved. One day she said to me "Do you want to see my tattoo?" My stunned jaw dropped to the floor. She lead me to the back of the cafe where she turned her back to me, undid her bra and raised her shirt to reveal THE. MOST. GORGEOUS. rainbow dragon which slinked from the bottom of her neck all the way down to the small of her back. I remember she lamented that she couldn't see her own tattoo, but she liked showing it off to just the right people. I suddenly was a card-carrying member of Club Myra!

I'm getting a tattoo on my wrist next month (a swallow...inspired partly by 'Swallow On My...' and another song) and I have to admit I am totally terrified :(...I'm most afraid of yanking my wrist away if it hurts too much and therefore f***ing the whole tattoo up.

Ah, beautiful! I've been thinking of getting something, perhaps on my lower calf. Maybe 'Unlovable' with some sort of design. Might try to do it before my birthday in April. I turn 30, so it would be one of the last impulsive things I do in my twenties, to mark the end of my twenties, I guess. Hm, that was sort of depressing to type :)

Am thinking of the morrissey crown symbol with "sing me to sleep" underneath it. Favourite song, song that introduced me to smiths and the greatness of the Moz, lyrics most speak to me etc.
I saw a link somewhere (on m-solo probably) to a font of morrisseys handwiriting which would be quite cool.
Damn I really want a tattoo now...

Just think of the end result...not the procedure. I have not had a tattoo so I do not know what the experience is like but, I feel you should decide if it is truly what you want and then be positive. So long as it is a decent artist I guess they will make it as little pain as possible, if it hurts you can tell them to stop and let you have a rest.
Good luck!

It depends on what you get. If you got something a little thicker than I did or something with some color in it, it would probably be okay. I'm pretty pale myself.
These were the most painful tattoos I've gotten so far, but worth it. The fun will be getting them redone. My tattoo artist used a very light hand so that the letters wouldn't blur and told me to come back after they'd healed so he could go back over them to darken them up. Good thing I don't mind the pain. ;)

Yes, there's probably been a million of them before. Just make this one twenty pages long, ha.
I'd like some pictures please of yours! I'm pondering over getting a Moz/Smiths piece done somewhere. It's just incredibly hard trying to think of any imagery to go with. I reckon it'll be an old school piece or something along those lines.
The only idea I've got in my head is a lighthouse with a boat on the sea with the good old "There is a light that never goes out" lyric.
So yeah, and tat's would be great.Old school style ones, better!
Thanks!

I have got a MAJOR crick in my neck from staring at it all day!! :D
Well, the guy who did it was Shane O'Neill. (www.shaneoneilltattoos.com) I searched all over the internet for a great portrait tattoo artist (because I would have traveled far & wide for someone I trust), and it just so happens that Shane was about 30 miles away from me in Delaware! He had a friend with a Morrissey portrait, but didn't really know who he was. While I was getting tattooed, we put on the Sirius "Classic Alternative" station and they played Moz twice! Shane recognized the songs straight away. Not to mention, he got a good "Moz" lesson for 7 hours yesterday. :guitar:
This is my 3rd tattoo...and the largest of them all (I just have some small stuff above my ankles), so I'm am totally freaked out, but I just love it.

While I was getting tattooed, we put on the Sirius "Classic Alternative" station and they played Moz twice!
I love that station more than life itself. I send in requests regularly heh.
Also, kickass tattoo! That guy is obviously very talented.

Thanks!! I didn't realize what I was missing with that Sirius radio! That station is truly amazing! I did hear that Madison DJ girl say that one particular "regular" always requests Morrissey...maybe that was you! ;)

This took 7 hours yesterday. Very happy that he will be by my side, FOREVER. It's on my left leg above my ankle. I LOVE IT! :D
That's amazing!
Mine (attached, what an attention whore) is slightly less impressive but no less significant to me. Nevertheless if I'm wearing a top that shows it off when I go out, people tend to ask about it. One fellow came up to me and said "I know what your tattoo is about. It's obviously about your mates and friends and how you can always rely on them isn't it?"
Oh the uneducated. I gave him a withering stare and attempted to explain before giving up and returning to my wine.

Wow! Now that's what I call a 'frinky calf' ;) You go girl! Nice work
I was thinking today as I passed a tatt shop how I probably should not get a Morrissey tattoo. As much as I would like one, I don't think it will happen. Not sure I want to be branded Moz. Perhaps I am not a 'real' fan ;) Of the two tatts I do have, I regret the one. Oh well. M can also be for MOM, right?! ;)

Yes, Corrissey don't get one if you are not 110% sure!! Here's my justification, if anyone cares...Moz has been my longest relationship ever, just over 20 years! No one else will ever come close to that (sadly), so I figured YES, he does in fact mean the world to me, so I will have him with me until I'm in the ground...or a bunch of ashes. Does that sound convincing?! :o
Oh and as for having a FRINKY calf...maybe Lottie will put my piccy in the FRINK!! I'm too shy to go in there (lies). :D

Moz has been a long relationship of mine as well (20 years), but my dh would not approve…unless I get an M crest –you know, for Mom. ;) There are ways of working it. It’s not completely out of the question, but like you said I need to be 110% ready. Until then, I have plenty of t-shirts to wear ;) :D
Your tat is very nice, kudos to the needle man!

Toronto, huh? I live nearby and have only met 1 person who even knew who Morrissey was... the girl who cuts my hair lol. Everyone else has no clue who the man is. It's amazing.
While there are a few-it is very uncommon. Whenever i have to try and explain the 'still ill' on my wrists and say "It's from a smiths song...you know, Morrissey?" i'm usually faced with a blank stare. Although once someone was able to respond with "What? A Will Smith tattoo?" Since then i've made it a habit of ignoring people's inquiries...

Hey all, i have decided only now that i shall get a tattoo. This tattoo i've decided will be 'Vile' like on Moz's hat in 'November Spawned a Monster'. Basically i wanted to know what the opinions of people like myself thought as my "friends" will certainly laugh and poke fun.
Also, is it 'vile' or 'vulgar' he has written on his neck on a certain performance on TOTP? just out of curiosity. Would be a double whammy if it were 'vile'
anyway, all opinons welcome :)

Certainly not on the neck...or brow. Probably the chest or the forearm, it'll be reasonably small. Nice and neat but also gets the point across ;)

Im getting one on my wrist for definate after seeing some of these, ive got tattoo's on my shoulder and ankle and "Morrissey" across the bottom of my back and the one across the back was total agony but the others were fine.
I was thinking of getting the writing downwards instead of across the way, like:-

R
R
I
S

I have made my mind up and decided that I will be getting a Morrissey/Smiths tattoo.
However, I am in need of ideas - and also where to get it tattood on my body.
I was considering 'there is a light that never goes out', however I fear it may be too common to Morrissey fans. 'MORRISSEY' was also an idea however I reckon it may be too boring - but it's still in the pipeline.
Grr. It's actually becoming annoying because I want one so much but also want it to be perfect.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, folks.
