Today I bought a boxed set by Morrissey called "The Singles Collection 1986-1992." It's supposedly a limited edition CD singles boxed set, 13 discs included. A purple box hand numbered (mine is 0487). I bought it used but it's in pretty darned good condition. I actually bartered the salesman down from $50 to $35. But I've been searching online for 20 minutes trying to find ANY information about this release, and I cannot find ANYTHING. Not even in the various Morrissey discographies.

Does anyone know anything about this? How rare is it? Did I get a good bargain? How limited was it - how many were made?

Thanks a ton!

Hello and welcome. Here is a link to a very concise and trusted site specialising in Morrissey and Smiths releases and the like. If you go to multi-album packages at the bottom of this page and then the end of the first paragraph of the next page you will get a picture of what I assume you have bought.
http://www.passionsjustlikemine.com/moz-d.htm As for price I have no idea maybe a search of items already completed on eBAY will give you some idea I myself favour the two 'official' boxsets and have the singles in the jewel cases that they were originally released in anyway. I trust there will be more people on here willing to help you with this, Cheers G

I paid $100 when it was released..

By the way, 1986 is a misprint...The Smiths were still together then

Thank you. I found that discography but I didnt see the "multi album packages" link. I guess if you paid $100 for it when it came out then it has presumably matured in value, especially if it is more than 15 years old, but by the same token, unofficial items are generally worth less than officially released ones.

Ironically there were 14 singles in this one I bought - the "odd one out" is for "Certain People I Know".

I'm pretty new to Morrissey collecting. I've long collected Tori Amos items and I know that most of the "unofficial" boxed sets sell for pretty high amounts to big fans, so maybe one day if I decide to sell it or trade it out it will be worth a small fortune ;)

Thanks a bunch!

I took your advice and looked on ebay. Someone is currently selling this set with a "buy it now" price of $250!!!! I dont see any completed auctions. Holy moly!!!

I myself favour the two 'official' boxsets and have the singles in the jewel cases that they were originally released in anyway.

I remember when it came out; maybe '93 or so. It was quite expensive at the time. All the earlier singles before the box came out were fairly collectable; Suedehead with it's 2 b-sides that weren't on Bona Drag, and the long version of Will Never Marry.

I ended up buying mine several years ago when the Morrissey dollar was at its lowest value for $30 at a record store in Campbell, California.

I was in the Amoeba LA and they had one behind the counter for $200 which is a ridiculous price. It's worth $75-100 perhaps.

I only bougth the boxes 88-91 og 91-95 (for around 45 $ each), but I don't really know what to do with them now, since I've bought each of the singles since. I'm thinking about decorating a table with the board covers :)

He's talking about the 13 cd box set that came out around '93, and not the 2 card sleeve box sets that came out a few years ago.

Beau, MOST of the stuff in Amoeba LA is wayyyyyyy overpriced to begin with. Sure, they get the "hard to find" stuff once in a while, and that's cool, but alot of their stuff's so freaking expensive, it pisses me off. You should see some of the pricing on their Smiths/Morrissey vinyl, way out of whack!.

They actually wanted like $75 bucks for a Smiths "HSIN" Vinyl single, I laughed.

I got that included in mine, too.

Anyone know what the box is worth nowadays? I paid $50 for it (the ebay seller had it names terribly), and it's in great condition for its age and the shoddy make of the box.

Any help would be great!

yeah, he's talking about this:

The singles are genuine but the box is not an official release (and quite ugly, to be honest).

EIL has one for $316.80 but that's obviously insane.
I've seen it go on ebay for $150 - 200.... but this box is only worth if you don't have any of the singles.

Or you might just buy them all individually on ebay or something.

The box itself isn't worth anything.

Grim spotted them from ASDA (equivalent to Walmart) £18 each January 2007:

I bought this box set in 93 for like 70clam$. Since its not an "OFFICIAL" Morrissey release the box isnt worth anything. The only thing of any value to a serious collector are the singles. Amoeba and Ebay are a breathing grounds for SUCKERS!
