I was lucky to be able to see this show. Most of the artists did a fine job with the songs they chose to cover. Calexico was a really good house band. Highlights for me were Glen Hansard -Hairshirt, he just about channeled Michael on that one. Darius Rucker did really well with I Believe and of course Patti Smith always an excellent job. And R.E.M. coming out and the end and having Michael look at me while speaking was awesome and it wasn't the first time he's done that. I've been to so many shows he must remember my face by now. :D And getting to finally hear E=bow the Letter with Patti Smith was a dream come true for me.

Does anyone have the version of Little America that clocks in at 3:43, from the vinyl or MFSL release Reckoning?

Yes, i only found out about it last year. Ripped it from my Vinyl. Little america is not extended just a small excerpt at the end which fades in & out.
Also on the original irs cd release of reckoning has a small excerpt pre rockville but on the re-release with bonus tracks it does not ;) let us know if you are missing that aswell.

Are these the same tracks from the cd singles "At My Most Beautiful" and "Suspicion." I'm just wondering where these came from. The passenger clocked in at 1:07, but I thought on the single it was like 6 mins.
Anyone know if there is a difference? I never got those two singles.:blushing:

suspicion was never performed on jools holland show. it was performed live in the studio for a b-side and then live at ealing studios for another (both sound similar though).
those tracks are all ripped from the TV Broadcast, not the same as the singles :)

The MFSL version of Reckoning should still be available here http://avaxhome.ws/music/audiophile/r.e.m._mfsl.html in lossless (APE) format, so download Monkey's Audio codec. Murmur should also be available as well.

It sounds a little bit "fuller" than the non-bonus tracks edition. I read from somewhere that MFSL mastered all their reissues at half-speed, whatever that means.

Can anyone Explain how to use Monkey's audio? I downloaded the files and used the Monkey's to decompress, but now what? I can't find a file or an extension to go to. I know how to use FLAC, but call me totally confused on this one.

strangely it featured a demo recording of low from out of time but the sound was inferior to the bootleg release of the demo's. strange but true.

those are your favourite b-sides? wow everyones different i suppose. i think the passenger live jools holland is a classic. wall of death, arms of love, free world baby, lion sleeps tonight (yeah its a b-side and is really fun).
looking through rem b-sidew/singles over the years they really have changed. from new tracks on b-sides to live recordings of album tracks. with some singles over the years they really have been quite pointless example:- monster singles & around the sun singles. when looking back at early rem where such b-sides as ages of you or white tornado, classic tracks. shame rem dont treat singles as essentials anymore :(

Yes, soundofthenorth these are my favourite b-sides/rarities that I know of! The Dead Letter Office period seem to belng to another era and I have the Automatic box so many of those have been played to death.

Finally, I found I could download L'Hotel from Amazon for 69p - which is well worth it! I really like the track; what does anyone else think? I think it wuld be a great direction for Stipe/REM...

I'm new here so was having a look around and stumbled onto this thread. What a generous group of people. :thumb:

No reason for anyone to help me out but, if someone has a copy of the REM gig from the Fox Theatre on 13 November 1989, the one where they played the songs from Murmur and Green in order, back to back, and would be willing to post it here then I would be very grateful. It's the LEAF benefit gig apparently.

I have some REM stuff I could share but looking at the hard to find stuff that has already been posted on this thread I suspect you have it already - but you never know! I'll keep an eye on the thread and post if I have something of interest.

He's right REM have never played Texarkana live, the closest thing to it is from October 3rd 2002 when Mike Mills and the Possibilities started the night off with it when they played 40 Watt Club, Athens, GA. I'm not sure if there is a recording though.

I'm guessing you've heard the version of Outtakes of Time?

Just purchased the Reckoning re-issue today, and I'm not someone who is wholly convinced by the 're-issue repackage' ethic, but they have done a wonderful job once again, just like the Murmur edition of last year. Had a short listen to the live disk and it was okay, but I would recommend it as the clarity is much better, the rhythm section is especially noticable, and it "stands up" to the modern volume levels on iPods etc.

I need to buy both those re-issues, i adore both those albums.
Thanks for reminding me.
Also whilst I'm on this thread i don't suppose anyone has the bootleg "Poets Of The Wheat", specifically CD1.
If so I'd be every so grateful if you could post it.

Ok R.E.M. Dublin (www.remdublin.com) relaunched today with info on the CD/DVD set Live at the Olympia. They are streaming Driver 8 from the set (audio stream). Can someone capture the audio stream then post it here?

R.E.M., Warner Bros. Records, and Cinema Purgatorio present “This Is Not A Theatrical Release,” limited sneak preview screenings of the upcoming R.E.M. un-concert documentary This Is Not A Show: Live at the Olympia in Dublin. The film will screen one night only in select towns across the U.S. Which exact night varies, depending on the city, and we are actively soliciting suggestions for more places to screen. These can be movie theaters, rock clubs, campus multi-purpose rooms, barns…

In their acclaimed 2007 “working rehearsals” in Dublin, R.E.M. set up camp at the venerable Olympia Theatre in Ireland’s capital city and tested new material over five nights before passionate, capacity crowds.

Music at the show was produced by Dublin native Jacknife Lee who, along with R.E.M., co-produced Accelerate, the album which emerged from these shows. “Live At The Olympia” gives fans an opportunity to hear those songs at their earliest stages of development. In addition to the new material, the band also served up several songs from across their nearly thirty year career.

The documentary This Is Not A Show, directed by Vincent Moon and Jeremiah, premiered in late September 2009 at the Sound Unseen festival in Minneapolis. It runs approximately sixty minutes – definitely not enough for a “theatrical” release.
