BRILLIANT!!! Thx eTrue! I'm thrilled to have this.

I've never uploaded anything, so I'd like to offer up The Dream, which is a recording of R.E.M.'s performance at the Pink Pop Festival in Holland during the 89 Green Tour. Included is the most raucous version of Auctioneer (Another Engine), which just screams out for an official release.

Would this interest anyone? Any advice on the best way to upload -- or how to upload -- is greatly appreciated.

GREEN

Just go to one of the MANY upload sites, such as:Yousendit, Megaupload, sendspace, etc. The best way to to do it, is sending all of the songs in a zip file. And that's it!! Afer you do it once, you're a pro! Good luck, and that recording you're speaking of sounds awesome!! ;)

Here's a Boot from the ATS Tour, TRUTH TO SET ME FREE

Hey, no problem! :) I'll have to check the CD Case for a date. All I know, and you can hear it a few times...is that it was recorded in Nagoya, Japan. I've been looking to get Rough Cut or This Way Up on DVD. Not sure if you would happen to have them, or would happen to know how I could get it?

Thanks Green!! :-)

Hi,

Haven't posted on here for a while mainly because I haven't had anything new to offer, but a big thanks to those who have ssupplied some good uploads lately.

And yes, murmurs (http://www.murmurs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107882&page=11) does seem to have started its own thread like this which is good news. Just to let you know I managed to get So. Central Rain from the ANimal single and the Shiny Happy People Hip mix which I'd been looking for for a long time. If those links are dead I'll upload them on here for anyone interested.

Also thanks to you if you were the person who uploaded thiose tracks!

Here's a little known track they wrote for the Automatic sessions but didn't complete the lyrics until after the album came out. They got their old friend Natalie Merchant to sing on it too.
Tis a great song called 'Photograph', enjoy!

I wanted to download it before its release just to make sure it was worth buying...if I'd bought Around The Sun at full price I would have felt a bit cheated I think!

Thankfully it's nothing of the sort. I shall most certainly be buying it when it comes out.

I have heard the new album and it's my first REM record to listen to.

I really really love it. The music is nothing exceptional, but it just has something. All the songs are really strong with great melodies.
I'm sure they probably don't match the heights of their older tunes, but it appears to me that they still have the ability to write great songs.

'Horse To Water' is the highlight I think.

After my illegal download I shall definitely be picking up the Deluxe edition of 'Accelerate'.

I'm glad you think it's a good album. That said, the only bad REM album is Around The Sun so for me it was a pretty safe bet that Accelerate was going to be a good one. I ordered both the regular and deluxe versions of the album as soon as they were made available, but would still love for someone who downloaded from the link posted previously in this forum to post it. It would only take a few minutes, but really would make my day - well, help to make my day. In about 3 hours I'll be pissed, which is a major contributor to 'making' any day

I don't see it there. For Comcast On Demand customers, you might really like to see the REM 1985 Rockpalast Germany full show...raw Stipe and band....NICE

Sorry for late notice if you are interested, I just found out about it tonight, and it expires June 30, so it will be ON DEMAND on Comcast now less than 24 hours. Look under Music, All Videos M-Z, then REM pt. 1 and pt. 2. (incidentally, Echo and the Bunnymen 1987 Rockpalast also being shown On Demand Comcast thru 6/30)

Here are some youtube videos of a few of the songs from this REM Rockpalast gig if you miss out but want to see it. Looks like this user has the whole show up on youtube in individual songs. Stipe's dancing totally crazy like Moz's during that era... :)

R.E.M. - 10/02/85 Germany 2. Harbor Coat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfLrBOAUKCo&feature=related)

Also:

Hello,

It's been awhile since I posted here. As I am a graphic designer/illustrator (as well as an arts teacher) I always wanted to put R.E.M./Smiths-songs to some of my images. Inspired by Houston (of the excellent 'Accelerate') I recently made a series of drawings for my very own 'fan-made video'. I put together 'Houston' and my stills by using MovieMaker and - just yesterday - I uploaded the .wmv-file to my youtube-channel. For any interested R.E.M.-fans: you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6leZFkO_Djs

Some of my other fan-made video's (for songs by The Smiths, Eels , etc...) you can go to http://www.youtube.com/user/bartproost

There are no commercial intentions whatsoever: just a creative desire to put great music to imagery... Enjoy. :-)

Love Music Hate Racism VH1
V Festival 4Music (Sat + Freeview)

I'm hoping someone is in the Christmas mood. I'm looking for the REM Christmas fan -club singles from 97-07. The earlier ones can easily be found, but I can't find these tracks anywhere.

Being that it is Christmas, I'm still hoping for some audio clips from the more recent REM Christmas songs.
Namely:

98- Lucky & E-Bow the letter (I know this was a VHS tape)
2000 - Christmas Time is Here Again / Hastings and Main / Take Seven
05 - Turn You Inside Out / The Great Beyond - DVD
06 - Tongue / S.Central Ran. / These Days / Begin The Begin

Having these tracks would finally complete my REM Christmas collection. I have looked everywhere.

Feel free to send me a PM if you would prefer.

It would really make my Christmas.

Hi it's been a while but here are a couple of things that have been requested recently:

For electrolite1, Lord Knows and anybody else, here is 'Christmas Time (Is Here Again)' a Beatles cover from the fan club xmas vinyl single in 2000:

Link (http://www.sendspace.com/file/atbj7h)

And for pcssousa and anybody else, the Elliot Mazer demos; early takes for their second album Reckoning, recorded 9 November 1983 at Rhythmic Studios in San Francisco:

Part 1: (http://www.sendspace.com/file/fu0b4z)
01 - That Beat
02 - Walter's Theme (without vocals)
03 - Walter's Theme
04 - Cushy Tush
05 - Burning Down
06 - All the Right Friends
07 - Windout
08 - Femme Fatale
09 - Burning Hell
10 - The Lion Sleeps Tonight
11 - Skank
12 - All the Right Friends (take 2)
13 - So. Central Rain
14 - Letter Never Sent

Part 2: (http://www.sendspace.com/file/jtj8al)
01 - Little America
02 - Camera
03 - Second Guessing (1)
04 - Second Guessing (2)
05 - Harborcoat
06 - 7 Chinese Bros.
07 - Just a Touch
08 - Pretty Persuasion
09 - Pale Blue Eyes
10 - Time After Time (AnnElise)

*note: I think 'Ages of You' was also recorded as the last song but I have never had this, so if anybody does have a copy of this song from this session, I'd be very grateful if you could please share it!

I also have a few requests of my own that I'll make in the next post...
thanks for looking

Okay, glad to be able to help some of you out... now here are a few requests of my own!

From Accelerate album, exclusive iTunes deluxe version:
- Horse to Water [live from Athens]
- Until the Day is Done [live from Athens]

B-side from Hollow Man single:
- Horse to Water [live in Vancouver]

Christmas fan club single 2008
- I have the audio thanks to people here, but if anyone is able to upload the full DVD content, that would be amazing!

Vancouver Rehearsal Tapes, May 10 2003 (Oct 2003):
- Maps and Legends
- Tongue
- Little America
- So. Central Rain
- Imitation of Life

Christmas fan club single 2001
- Find the River [live 16 Oct 2001] video and audio
*I know others are looking for this. I have an audio version of Find the River, which can be found floating around the net, but I'm convinced it's not the right version because it sounds really poor!

Music From Tourfilm, Warner Bros. promo CD (Oct 1990) - link to info (http://www.svs.com/rem/gif/discog/wb-pro-cdv-4460c.jpg)
- Get Up (3:04)
- World Leader Pretend (4:19)
- It's the End of the World as We Know It (4:52)
*I think somebody from here may have already sent me 'End of the World' but I appear to have lost it- sorry! Any help here would be much appreciated.

Untitled promo CD, Warner Bros. (Sep 1989) - link to info (http://www.svs.com/rem/gif/discog/wb-pro-cd-3716a.jpg)
- Orange Crush [live] (3:35)
- Turn You Inside-Out [live] (4:10)
*Recorded live from Florida 30 April 1989. These songs were recorded for broadcast on US radio and thus are now found on many bootlegs (which I have). But I would still like to track down an original-source recording (i.e. this CD) rather than FM quality bootleg, just as I am a fussy completist!

I.R.S. demo from Drive-In studios, Winston-Salem, 3 Oct 1981:
- Stumble (available on bootleg Chronic Murmurings, for some reason it's the only track I am missing from this collection)

I think that's it. I realise some of those are quite picky, but they really are just about all I need to help complete my R.E.M. collection.

Here's the other goodie I forgot to post earlier, may be of particular interest to soundofthenorth who asked for this:

Michael Stipe reading quotes from Martin Luther King. (http://www.sendspace.com/file/2rj4mh) This was released as a QuickTime video on the 2002 Xmas fan club single. I don't have the video sadly. If anybody else does and can upload it, please let me know!

Thanks for all the great contributions to this thread. Happy holidays and happy new year to you all!

Thanks for the help everyone for the MLK readings and Christmas Time is Here Again. I'm playing it right now.

FYI: For anyone interested, on Christmas Day, visit the George Michael web site for a FREE download of his new Christmas song. You can play it now, it's very different from Last Christmas. U2 also has a new Christmas song out called "I Believe In Father Christmas." No crisp download yet, but can easily be found on Youtube. The 80's have returned.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

These two tracks are not as rare as they seem to be:

- this particular version of Orange Crush is also available on the UK collector's edition of the Radio Song single, and on the US edition of Everybody Hurts

- although listed as being from Tourfilm, the live version of Turn You Inside-Out on the 2 disc edition of In TIme is actually this one.

Ahh I never realised this and now having listened to those sources again, you're right, I can hear they are from the Florida recordings. So thanks for pointing that out. And thanks for the Find the River vid, that's excellent!

I've bundled together all the official b-sides and stuff I have that were released via iTunes (apart from the Vancouver rehearsal tapes - thanks very much to soundofthenorth for those!):

iTunes Originals (Dec 2004):
- Part 1 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/uei8ow)
- Part 2
(http://www.sendspace.com/file/yapuak)
Tracks exclusive to iTunes' release of the In Time bonus disc*:
- Beat A Drum [live, 8 June 2001, Museum of TV & Radio, Los Angeles, for WXRT radio] (http://www.sendspace.com/file/wtwlzz)
- She Just Wants To Be [live, 18 May 2001, Museum of TV & Radio, New York City] (http://www.sendspace.com/file/ymzbvm)
* not really an exclusive; these two songs could be found on the 2001 promo CD 'Not Bad For No Tour'... but that was quite rare though to be fair.

Wanderlust single:
- Wanderlust [live, 14 Oct 2004, Santa Barbara] (http://www.sendspace.com/file/hzqac8)

Leaving New York single:
- Leaving New York [live, Athens rehearsal sessions]** (http://www.sendspace.com/file/1a1piy)
** not actually from Athens but from London St. James Church, special fan club/competition gig, 15 Sep 2004.

Accelerate iTunes deluxe album:
- Supernatural Superserious [live from Athens] [pre-order exclusive]
- Horse To Water [live from Athens]
- Living Well Is The Best Revenge [live from Athens]
- Until The Day Is Done [live from Athens]
- Airliner [Non-album track]
- Redhead Walking [Non-album track] (http://www.sendspace.com/file/2jdsve)

That's a very nice collection of the download-only stuff!
Interestingly enough, the only thing still missing (the Live From London EP) is the only thing I actually don't have - iTunes music store is not available from Hungary, and I could get the rest from 7digital. Since it's Christmas, wishing time :), if someone could upload that, it would really make me happy :)

It would be also great to have these 3 vinyl-only live tracks:
- 9-9 live in Paris -> from the (Don't Go Back To) Rockville UK 12"
- Gardening At Night live in Paris -> from the (Don't Go Back To) Rockville UK 12"
- Pop Song 89 live at the Borderline -> from the Near Wild Heaven UK 12"

I have recordings from all these shows (including the radio broadcast from the Apple Store performance), so I have the songs themselves, but it would be nice to have the official versions.

ho ho ho enjoy the "lost" treasures of the rem fanclub singles. they are all gems :)

Hi there - I'm new to the site (somehow stumbled upon it by googling some REM stuff) and am excited to find a lot of the bootlegs/hard to find stuff. Would someone be able to post all of the Xmas songs above into one zip? I signed up for a 4-shared account and it says the links are expired.

Here's what I am contributing - if anyone needs anything that was commercially released, odds are I have it ripped from my collection - the only thing I'm missing is the Supernatural Superserious single, and have been trying to win it on eBay for quite some time.

If anything sounds too quiet, it's because I MP3gain all my MP3s. Hopefully you can re-run through MP3gain and set the volumes to whatever you like. All my files are ripped at 320kbps.

Acoustic Songs:

Perfect Circle (Live) - from "Suspicion" 3" single:

Losing My Religion - digital-only release from UK radio aid - no longer able to be purchased; converted from .wma:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CUA7GKDJ

*EDIT* - just the vinyl releases into one zip that is - I have the 99, 01, 02, 03, 04 and 07 singles on CD.

Excellent! I had been looking for Not Bad for No Tour for a while. I hadn't even heard of the second one; I am going to try to find more information on it :)

Thanks trashmonk!

*Edit* Is the other version of "all the way to reno" on Not bad for no tour identical to an existing version?

I assume you're talking about track 1 - no, it's the edit (4:26) version. It's nothing special.

I have recordings from all these shows (including the radio broadcast from the Apple Store performance), so I have the songs themselves, but it would be nice to have the official versions.

the vinyl rips would be nice :)

I thought I had the official ripped versions of the live b-sides from the Rockville 12" single... turns out they are just bootleg recordings :(. However, the bootleg source is a DAT master reel as the show was recorded by a French radio station and is what was also used for the Rockville single... how well I.R.S. may have mixed them, I have no idea. I believe what I.R.S. did was fade-out both tracks as Gardening at Night cuts short and 9-9 has the beginning of another track at the end. If you have the full show it is possible to play around and re-order the tracks to get full versions of both these tracks and the whole show (more details here for those interested (http://www.murmurs.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1863055))

So from the bootleg recording, are:

- 9-9 (live, 20 Apr 1984, Paris) (http://www.sendspace.com/file/jmpyup)

- Gardening at Night (cuts off at end) (live, 20 Apr 1984, Paris) (http://www.sendspace.com/file/zvvhzz)

Similarly, this is Pop Song 89, recorded live 15 March 1991 from the Borderline club in London. This was the b-side on the 12" Near Wild Heaven single. The sound quality here isn't amazing and I have no idea if this is the real vinyl rip or a bootleg recording. But again, for those interested, here it is:

- Pop Song 89 (live acoustic version) (http://www.sendspace.com/file/gn4dx2)

And finally, as requested, R.E.M.'s cover of Wall of Death:

Hello again!

I've lots to write now :)
First of all, big thanks to Boomers86 for the uploads, unfortunately I didn't get anything new, but I appreciate the effort. I also have the bootleg version of the Paris 1984 show, and I've put together the bits and pieces for myself, so, for those who are interested, here's the full version of Gardening At Night plus 9-9 from there in losless format:

http://rapidshare.com/files/177399295/2_songs_from_Paris_1984_flac.zip

...and in mp3:

http://rapidshare.com/files/177399388/2_songs_from_Paris_1984_mp3.zip

I also found the videos from the Not Bad For No Tour promo EP in .wmv format in my archive, here it is (quite small picture and not very high quality though):

http://rapidshare.com/files/177394189/Not_Bad_For_No_Tour_videos.zip
Tracklist:
Introduction from Michael Moore
All The Way To Reno - promotional video
Imitation Of Life - live in Köln, 12 May 2001
Losing My Religion - live at Trafalgar Square, London, 29 April 2001
Find The River - live at MTV Unplugged 2.0, 21 May 2001
I've Been High - live at Chanel V "By Demand", Sydney 31 May 2001
The Lifting - live in Toronto, 17 May 2001

About Pop Song 89 from Borderline: this is definitely from the audience recording, and since there are 3 other songs (Tom's Diner, Low, Endgame) from the same show on the Near Wild Heaven cd single in much better quality, I have to think that the band had a better source to use from this show, so they must have used that for the 12" also.

About Acoustic Songs: it's not a bootleg, it was a French magazine (Les Rockuptibles) giveaway cd, all 3 tracks were originally recorded for Rockline in LA, 1 April 1991, and later released on singles:
Losing My Religion on the Shiny Happy People single
Half A World Away on the Near Wild Heaven single (UK 12" only)
Love Is All Around on the Radio Song single

About the 6 songs from Clinton Studios, NYC 7 October 2003: in late 2003, R.E.M. made a 2 disc set to promote the release of the In Time collection, titled "A Joyful Noise - In Time With R.E.M." Disc 1 contained an interview about their Warner era (1988-2003) and various tracks from the best of album, and disc 2 contained the 6 exclusive performances. 2 of them (Pretty Persuasion and Welcome To The Occupation) were later released on the Animal single.

About Losing My Religion - digital-only release from UK radio aid: I have absolutely no information about this (maybe someone from the UK could help), but for me it sounds quite similar to the Clinton Studio performance, without the applause at the end though.

UK Radio Aid - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Radio_Aid

I don't remember much about it, other than the track was like GBP .79 or something like that. I also bought the David Gray track. It has DRM on it, so I got lucky a few years ago when I converted it to WAV - at least I can still listen to it.

As far as Acoustic Songs, I saw another person in the thread explain what that is. I think it's a great little EP. You can get it on ebay for $10 - $20, maybe a little more.

And you're right, the link is now working for me....very strange why it didn't work before...I probably screwed up, I'm new to 4shared.

"The Outsiders" (Alternate Version) - From "Wanderlust" CD1

Hi,

Here's Low (Alternate version)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/igygr2

and The Outsiders (Alternate mix)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/116ghh

Plus something new I found I didn't realise I had:

Man On The Moon live feat. Chris Martin (14/09/04, Hammersmith Apollo)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/g59o0e

It's from a CD compilation that came with the UK Sun newspaper in 2005, called 'Make Poverty History' (I'm guessing around the time of Live 8).

Also, sticking with rare promos/CD giveaways/compilations, does anybody have the following:

- Gardening at Night (live to two-track) The Alternative Radio Sampler (IRS 1992) (note: not same as live version on Dead Letter Office reissue)

- Ages of You (live, ??) Live! For Life (1986)

- Pretty Persuasion (21/11/84 Nottingham UK) On the Edge, Westwood One CD (1994)
- Radio Free Europe (21/11/84 Nottingham UK) On the Edge, Westwood One CD (1994)

- Radio Free Europe (07/07/84 Aragon Ballroom, Chicago) ONXRT Live from the Archives vol. 4 (1998)

- Walk Unafraid (live ??) 99X: Live X 6 (2000)

- R.E.M. Live for 99X (Museum of TV & Radio, NYC) (2001) (6 track promo)

- All The Way To Reno (live exclusive ??) KTHX's Live from the X-Ville City Limits vol. 3 (2001)

- Drive (live exclusive ??) For The Lady (tribute to Aung San Suu Kyi) (2004)

- The One I Love
- Everybody Hurts
- I've Been High
- Losing My Religion (all live Mountain View, 2001) The Bridge Collection (2006)

That's quite a lot there and I know it's some mega-rare stuff I'm after... but if any of you have any of them and can share them, I'd be really very grateful. Thanks!

As much as I know, this version of Gardening At Night is also known as "slower electric demo", now easily available on the second disc of the "And I Feel Fine" collection, and Ages Of You is the regular studio version.

Yes you're right, I've since managed to get the version from the 1992 promo and it is the same as the one included on And I Feel Fine, although oddly it sounds like a bit of a cleaner mix. But don't take my word for it, I've posted it here if you guys are interested in forming your own opinions...

REM in Berlin, July 2008

I just got this show off uTorrent. If it's already been posted, I apologize. It's a great concert...great setlist, great quailty recording. A ton of energy. My only complaint is the presence of I'm Gonna DJ, but hey.

I was lucky to be able to see this show. Most of the artists did a fine job with the songs they chose to cover. Calexico was a really good house band. Highlights for me were Glen Hansard -Hairshirt, he just about channeled Michael on that one. Darius Rucker did really well with I Believe and of course Patti Smith always an excellent job. And R.E.M. coming out and the end and having Michael look at me while speaking was awesome and it wasn't the first time he's done that. I've been to so many shows he must remember my face by now. :D And getting to finally hear E=bow the Letter with Patti Smith was a dream come true for me.
