View Full Version : The unreleased Peel and Jensen sessions
Kuiper January 4, 2007, 06:22 AM Here is a list of the songs performed in the sessions that are not on Hatful of Hollow, are not b-sides to Sheila, or were performed after Hatful was released:
Miserable Lie - May 31st, 1983 (appeared on the seemingly rare "The Peel Sessions EP", so I can assume it is much more widely available than the others)
Wonderful Woman - July 4th, 1983
I Don't Owe You Anything - September, 1983
Pretty Girls Make Graves - September, 1983
Reel Around the Fountain (not the Hatful version, which was from the May session) - September, 1983
William, It Was Really Nothing - August, 1984 (on the Last Night I Dreamt single, so it must be somewhat widely available)
Nowhere Fast - August, 1984 (ditto the above)
Rusholme Ruffians - August, 1984 (ditto the ditto the above)
How Soon is Now? - August, 1984 (I'm just gonna assume this link is the song http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=B40E1B7C519536AC)
London - December, 1986
Half a Person - December, 1986
So can anybody help me out on where I can find these? And if someone would be so kind as to enlighten on how to do so, I would gladly put these all into one file so I could upload them all simultaneously for future requests. I also have I think all the uncompiled Smiths and solo b-sides and a few rarities if anyone would like me to upload some (whether or not you have any of the above). In fact I'll just post these right now:
Will Never Marry long version - http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=212FA4703D3BABFC
November the Second - http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=A1A2DF2C7847AC57

14 Is It Really So Strange - Dec 86
15 London - Dec 86
16 Sweet And Tender Hooligan - Dec 86
Only How Soon Is Now is missing, but there is some controversy if the Smiths ever really recorded a radio session of HSIN (see Simon Goddard's book).
Here is a list of the songs performed in the sessions that are not on Hatful of Hollow, are not b-sides to Sheila, or were performed after Hatful was released:
(...)
Wonderful Woman - July 4th, 1983
I Don't Owe You Anything - September, 1983
Pretty Girls Make Graves - September, 1983
Reel Around the Fountain (not the Hatful version, which was from the May session) - September, 1983
I have the Jensen sessions - 4 tracks from July 1983 and 4 tracks from September 1983.
David Jensen session 1, July 4 1983:
1. Hand In Glove (live) - Not sure why this was included here, but I think that this is the live recording that was the B-side to There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (?)
2. These Things Take Time (on Hatful Of Hollow)
3. You've Got Everything Now (Hatful Of Hollow)
4. Wonderful Woman
David Jensen session 2, September 5 1983:
1. Accept Yourself (Hatful Of Hollow)
2. I Don't Owe You Anything
3. Pretty Girls Make Graves
4. Reel Around The Fountain
Uploading the unreleased versions...
Joshu's Mu January 4, 2007, 12:29 PM Kuiper, thanks for getting this ball rolling. Don't know why but "Stay" came as a complete mystery to me...

nightandday January 4, 2007, 01:19 PM I have to say that the Jensen sessions I have are, obviously, versions recorded from the radio - you can even hear DJ's voice at the end of Wonderful Woman, and it seems like a few seconds are missing at the beginning of I Don't Owe You Anything. Anyway, here they are. I hope someone has the recordings from original tapes.

reel around the fountain is defective...
CemetryGates January 8, 2007, 09:14 PM I just checked my original copy and Reel Around The Fountain is indeed messed up. It is the same take that is included on Hatful of Hollow, so most people will have the complete track anyway I assume. Sorry I didn't mention that before. I didn't remember it being that way when I posted the set originally.
vauxhallish January 8, 2007, 09:22 PM Can somebody please repost Stay As You Are? Thanks.

Stay As You Are
thank you for this.
WhatDifferenceDoesItMake? April 5, 2007, 03:50 AM Am I right in thinking the only available Wonderful Woman (David Jensen Session 26.06.1983) is of fair quality & inferior to the majority? I personally prefer the David Jensen version of Pretty Girls Make Graves to the one released, spine-tingling stuff.
